Nose: Clean, medium+ intensity with developed aromas of musty earth, brackish water, lemon zest, almond, and mushroom - kind of off-putting initially but grew on me over time. Palate: Dry, medium acid, medium body, medium+ intensity, 12.5% abv with developed flavors of melon rind, lemon tart, marmalade and saline with a medium+ finish. At Jim and Michelene’s 40th anniversary dinner and served with Chef Don Saunders’ Scallops w/ Fall Vegetables. The lightest of golds that would have had you guess a 3 year old Chablis vs. a 13 year old one. This blossomed in the glass after 15 or so minutes. Citrus, minerals, iodine and smoke on a medium-bodied frame. This was super beautiful. My last bottle and I couldn’t think of a more appropriate event for it. (1016 views)

Merely full straw in color; surprisingly youthful with profusely floral, honeysuckle and crushed gravel notes; fresh and zippy palate with serious concentration and underlying extract. I’ve enjoyed and scored the ‘10 Les Clos similarly and found that wine heading past peak. This Preuses came in just barely short of my experiences drinking their ‘10 Vaudesir but both weren’t nearly as evolved as the Clos. This bottle was fresh as a daisy and seemingly “barely ready”. Typically refined nose of GC Chablis (just a tad more restrained than many its counterparts) with grapefruit, white flowers, and iodine notes. Much more expressive (and more distinctively balanced, once again compared to its counterparts) on the palate: excellent inner-mouth tension, sustained throughout, and delicate weight, with a seamless harmony between the core of ripe when not outright exotic fruits (on this occasion I found apricot to be unusually present) and the mineral, saline, sometimes soothingly bitter notes always keeping it in check. I was really, really impressed with this. Often overlooked verses the bigger names of Raveneau and Dauvissat, but this was equal to, if not better, than many of the recent wines I’ve tried from either. For 13 years, this was incredibly fresh. Quite a reductive nose from the bottle and lots of fresh fruit. Very lively with great acidity and this got better as it warmed up to room temperature, always a sign of a good wine. Am I being harsh with a 95? possibly. (1188 views)

Mouton dinner (La Chaumiere in Georgetown): Beautiful light color which is a relief. Expressive nose displaying generous yellow citrus fruit, flint, white flowers, sesame, pine needle, saline and crushed rocks. Excellent concentration, nicely layered yellow citrus fruit, excellent precision and balance, bright acidity, incredibly mineral, and a long yellow citrus fruit driven finish with pine needle at the end. Oh my, rarely give out a score of 95 points but this was an epic bottle of Chablis... right up there with my old raveneau and dauvissat... super bright (which surprised me as 2010 was a "pleasing" vintage in its youth)... anyway, sad that I had drunk thirty btls I bought for $70 all in the early / mid 2010's, this bottle of course cost 2.5 that and well worth it... bright, with citrus and minerals galore and simply elegent but with energy... went out and bought the last 10 bottles I could find in the USA... well well well worth the tariff (assuming the new bottles are similar to this)... again WOW, and I'm betting I give a score of 95 maybe once in 100 btls... 2010 Fevre and Dauvissat Grand Cru Chablis (Oceanaire, Mpls, MN): Pale gold color. PNP, drank a glass plus over 2 hours. Flighted the '14 and '10 together. Much like my note on a bottle four years ago. Fantastic nose again; explosive, crystalline and powerful, beautiful orchard fruits, more fruit complexity, swampy Fevre earthiness galore, saline, ocean, tons of lift, floral notes and zestiness. The palate is intense and concentrated, richer, powerful, zippy minerality, swampy crustacean infused earth, green fruit and citrus zest, with a sweet little nutty thing in the background. Damn, great acid, fruit and minerality; just a complete wine. The '10 is working its magic, and the '14 will needs some time to get here. (1576 views)

A tasting of three grand crus (clos, preuses, vaudesir 2010) and two 1er crus (montee de tonnere and vaulorent 2012). This is still too young. Marked by a reductive note of flint and matchsticks when opened. Closed on the nose. only giving some chalky tone, even after several hours in the glass. Full bodied attack, extreme tones of chalk and minerals, then lemon an green apples kicks in. Extremely concentrated, but also extremely tight and unwelcoming. Very long, but linear aftertaste, just giving citrus and green apples. Almost tannic finish. Seems ten years too young. Is this correct? Will these wines ever be pleasant to drink? (1355 views)

PnP'ed (blinded) towards end of dinner. Just like the last bottle more than a year ago, this was in pristine condition... In fact, this showed even younger than the previous bottle. Pale-yellow, this would seemed like an entry-level wine that would be equally pale/light on the palate. On the contrary, it was anything/everything but... Light lemon-oil, white peaches, green-apples, white-chalk scents emerged with some time/air in the glass, this was very harmonious & pure on the palate too, with a light touch of that lemon-oil texture, but plenty of weight/extract showed. I’m not a big fan of Chablis but bottles like this could change my mind. The pale yellow hue lets you know immediately it’s perfectly sound. So airy, so clean yet no lack of power or energy. Drank blind next to the 2016 Fevre Les Preuses. DIAM 10. Outstanding nose, crisp, salty, mouth watering lemon acidity with white floral notes hiding behind. Plenty of stuffing on the palate, but balanced well with with tart lemon zest and a punch of acid on the finish. Focused and tight while barely showing it's age. "Red/White Burgs vs. New-world Pinots & Chards" theme'd session.

Decanted for ~3-hrs prior to serving. Blinded (in a pair) alongside the '17 Yattarna. In pristine condition and tasted young (guesses hovered around '14-'17). Floral spectrum ranged from ripe citrus/lemons to peach to cheese (after time/air in the glass). It also had discernable oak (not protruding though) that got more & more integrated as the evening drew on. There was gain in body/intensity too, with significant (dry) extract becoming more apparent with more air. Finished long. A wine befitting of its GC status! Interestingly, guesses were split rather equally whether this was a Burg or New-world Chard... (2197 views)

PnP. Very long and dense cork. Light greenish gold - no sign of pre-mox. Subtle nose of sea air and citrus, especially lemon. Goes down like water impression on the palate, then the finish slowly builds with limestone, sea-salt flavors along with more citrus. Subtle and spherical in presentation; not as flamboyant as Bouguerots but lovely. Should be great with Dungeness crab, shrimp, and mussel linguine. Ten years has done wonders for this wine which shows rich greenish fruit in a taut package with good acids and a refined texture. This is a wine which really blossoms with food. The nose is almost floral but is cut through with limestone and lemon. Had this on release and remember it being a beast of Chablis with very aggressive acidity and some tannin to resolve. Still, you could sense the complexity and potential it had, so I was happy to be able to revisit another bottle eight years later. It’s now fully secondary, having shed its excess acidity and structure, and while maybe not quite as complex and tense as in its youth it still holds a solid measure of nervosity, and now the balance is more in favor of the fruit which has plenty of appeal, from fresh ripe lemon to white peach (when served at a cooler temperature). While it’s fine for drinking a glass or so on its own, it also has an appropriate, savory brininess to it that adds some interest and asks to be paired with food. Drinking very well now and I’d expect over the next few years at least. Diam 10 closure. (1976 views)

Popped, poured, consumed over three evenings. At cellar temperature, this had some rather exotic melon notes and seemed to be exhibiting the influence of very toasty oak. Put it in the refrigerator overnight, tried it at 40 degrees and it was actually way better and more like Grand Cru Chablis. I usually believe people drink white wine too cold and prefer it at cellar temperature so this was unusual. It's been 10 years -- I hope that toasty oak integrates! (1483 views)

I have become more and more sceptical to the wines from this domaine, they seem just too dry and tart and does not seem to evolve at all. This one may make me adjust my opoinion slightly. Very young colour. almost greenish. Classic nose dominated by chalk, oysters, some etheric oils (shellack?), but also green apples, some peach and a hint of candied fruit. Medium bodied in the first attack in the mouth, then the wine expands to the finish and aftertaste. While the mid palate is dominated by citrus and tart apples, the finish is dominared by peach, vanilla (?), dried green fruits. The aftertaste is so mineral it almost hurts; chalk, oysters, salt water. Long, extremely fresh with an almost tannic tone. This is not a wine for the novice, and it still seems too young. I am a bit unsure where this wine is going; will the tartness dominate more, or will the fruit emerge more clearly? For those in the position to do so; keep for five more years before the next bottle. (1991 views)

The Vikings sucked, but the wines were good!; 1/15/2020-1/16/2020 (John's house): Drank 1/4th of the bottle over maybe 1.5 hours. The main attraction of this wine is the minerality, shellfish and high acidity. There is also apples, baking spice, a touch of oak (very integrated) and the frame is medium to light-bodied. Amazing balance, with flavors that come and go with each sip or sniff. 94-95, my expectation was high and this bottle exceeded my expectation slightly. (2204 views)

What a wine! It pours bright white gold in the glass showing just a touch of age in its slightly deep shade. I could spend hours attesting the nose for its depth and charm; it shows very detailed and gentle aromas of classic oyster water, ripe citrus lemon, some dried white flower, green and golden apples, light stonefruit white peach, a touch of nutty rosted hazelnut with a smokey flinty hint, a bit of bright white tea and just the faintest hint of oak vanilla that is barely perceptible but kindly helps to round up the very fresh and minerally driven nose. The layers on the smell just keeps on giving as it seems that this could age for few extra years but it just sings now without that potential excessive nuttiness that, with time, it might cover up its bight and fresh mantle. The palate kickstart with that oyster juice that recall the nose and then it changes gear into a fairly full character that suggest the memorable vintage that 2010 was. It follows up with ripe lemon again, sweet william pears, white peaches and ripe apricots all flowing through quite seamlessly finishing into a pleasant nutty tone. The texture is impressive for a Chabils and it only lacks of a touch of acidity that would have helped the wine to be just a bit springier on the finish. It ends on a soft note of walnuts backed by a merged flavour of light honey and lemon. I would recommend to drink this fairly soon as there is not much drive trough the back palate. Still none the less delicious! I wish there was more Chardonnay like this around! (2822 views)

Big Guns: Burgs and Bordeaux at Bellecour (Bellecour, Mpls, MN): Light greenish color. PNP, drank 1+ glass over 90 minutes. Oh my, what 3 years can do. I knew this was going to be great, but this was even better than I imagined. Flat out stunning, this has an explosive nose, amazing energy and depth, powerful, poised, classic Chablis character with gorgeous green fruits, crystalline minerality, saline and an ocean of minerality, signature Fevre, earth and so lifted, this goes on and on. It doesn't get much better than this. I'm totally enamored by the 2010 vintage in general is it really captures the trifecta of fruit, minerality, and acidity in such a compelling way. At some point we need to get a flight of '10 Fevre Grand Crus together for a direct comparison. 96+ to 97pts. (2595 views)

The nose shows only slightly reductively, and there's a hint of white fruit here. The palate is quite consistent, and there's good minerality and acidity here. It's not as complex or electric as I remember it being though (that was 3.5 years ago). It seems to have mellowed out a little, and I've never been too much of a fan of aged chardonnay. Dinner at Sun Wah (Chicago, IL): This is quite ripe on the nose, with mostly a flinty character. The palate is just incredible though. Lots of freshness combined with gunflint. Open for two hours. The aromas are very precise but slightly reticent and include just-ripe pear and crisp red apple. On the palate it is all about purity. Visiting Domaine William Fèvre (Chablis, Burgundy, France): First thing to note is the charming wall of aromas, ripe orchard fruits and an array of spices and minerality, I found myself just swirling and nosing this for a while, simply for enjoyment. On the palate this is well structured and balanced, but somehow manages to feel surprisingly ready already (especially when compared to Les Clos). If you wish to try one of Fevres 2010 GC's right now, I'd recommend Preuses. It's in a beautiful stage and it's probably not very suitable for long-term cellaring. (4493 views)
