This bottle did not meet my expectations of a Burgundy Grand Cru. I was surprised to see one “Terrific” review with only 92 points, so I’m giving 91 and I’m calling it “not bad but not great”.

The disappointment is mostly my fault: I drank this too late past maturity. There is still plenty of acidity and length but the wine is less full and its wealth of mineral notes has narrowed down. Plush but quiet, like a sleepy, reclusive chinchilla.

Nicely developed grapefruit notes on the nose, progressing onto the palate with the help of healthy acidity and some surviving onctuosity for smoothness. Behind a hint of bitterness hides a layer of weaker mineral notes, which remain for a relatively long finish. This is no longer a rich, wide, complex or great specimen, but is just the perfect wine for a serious conversation about cellar management ;) (664 views)

Popped and initially had some funk that blew off in just a couple of minutes. Absolute epitome of chablis, this tasted like crushed oyster shell with a great salinity to it. Paired amazingly with shrimp linguini & soft shell crab. After about an hour it started to fade a bit. Drink now as it’s showing some weariness. (1788 views)

Following an oxidised bottle earlier in the year, this is a relief. Pale straw, lots of saline notes with a sense of minerality. certainly have had bottle variance, but this bottle was in prime drinking window. great balance with incredibly elegant complexity of minerality and hazelnuts. long smooth finish.

no heat or sweet jammy oaky nonsense so many new world wines have which is not appealing to me. have another 6 or so and will move into rotation as feel wine has peaked and will stay here for a few years but not necessarily extended cellar time. (1775 views)

Single Blind Chablis (Chez John Morris): Not poxed at all. Slight reduction that blows off to reveal a lovely, fresh nose of green apple with a hint of pineapple, a drizzle of honey, a whiff of macadamia, and some oyster blood and hay. More linear and Chablis-esque, comes together nicely with air showing good powerful mineral character, good length. Excellent and very Chablis, the grand cru quality stands out in this lineup. Terrific showing. The palate features lots of white and yellow fruits, which are substantial on the palate and, as Bob notes "lots to chew on here". Really nice Grand Cru precision while the sides seem smoothly contoured from some cellar age. The fruit seems like it is just shy of tropical, there is a note of fennel, and a hint of vanilla bean, but there is plenty of minerality and firm acidity throughout. Okay, this is big and intense. There is a hint of oak on the nose along with green apples and clay. Big and dense on the palate, perhaps a bit dry from the oak. The salty ocean flavors are there as well with a great deal of intensity. Still a young wine, I wish this was a bit more rounded and relaxed. In desperate need of food, not a facile wine to drink. Voyage en Corse (août 2014): Fèvre Bougros 2005, 77 euros à la Gaffe Saint-Florent
Un grand cru plutôt léger (cuvée de négoce) mais en pleine forme, jeune et frais. Nez citronné, un peu crémeux.
La bouche est légère, l'élevage encore présent mais bien intégré, un très bel équilibre, c'est fin, avec une finale un peu iodée, mais je n'y trouve pas beaucoup de minéralité, à peine un petit coté iodé en finale. Joli Chablis bien fait, mais plutôt léger pour un grand cru. 90 pts (2707 views)

Good weight and plenty of material here. In an interesting spot where the citrus/oyster shell elements are still present but where tertiary marks of cream and spices are hitting the palate as well. Fresh lemon aromas with an oaky undertone. Dense and creamy on the entry, much more steely and saline on the mid palate with a lovely seaside character. We'll balanced with good acidity, the oak is still fairly forward and there is a little waxy citrus character on the finish. No rush with these, plenty of time. (2345 views)

Worldwide Chards plus Rieslings (Edina Country Club): Pale gold color. Drank 2 glasses over 90 minutes. Oh my, this is intense, the nose has this wind driven sea air quality that just grabs you, pure lemon, lemon zest, with white flowers, and a hint of beeswax, dry earth. The palate is also a wow, lemon, lemon chiffon, great acid and energy, stony minerals, just a hint of candied orange peel. The finish is penetrating and 90 seconds plus long. This is one fine wine. Worldwide Whites (Edina Country Club, MN): Really nice showing tonight and my second favorite wine tonight. Lemon, shells, citrus, and spices. Very balanced and not a powerhouse wine but has a long finish. Orange peel on the finish and should continue to drink well for a few years but honestly why wait. (3174 views)

Clear entry, shows seashells, minerals and a creme fraiche/vanilla component that is oak-derived and distinct, but isn't overwhelming. The sides are tapered and I get no tropical notes as I have in the past (and Marco's tasting note from January is from a bottle that I opened from the same lot). This is good, but it's not great, and I often come to the conclusion that Grand Cru Chablis is not significantly better than Premier Cru Chablis. With Yaacov and Lyle at Cookshop.
No degradation overnight, this hardly changed at all, and it remains clean and clear, with seashells, minerals, tangy acidity and creme fraiche/vanilla. My preference is for steel-aged Chablis, but every so often a bit of oak is okay. (2436 views)

Burdundies @ Asher's (Westport, CT): Lots of fat on this one. Round, lush and almost tropical, with a peaches and cream note...almost Meursault-like. The middle and finish were extraordinary, with the fat fully absorbed by the sneaky acidity and the Chablis character more obvious. This had a whiplash of sappy fruit and chalk that faded and came back. A extreme wine... extremely delicious. (2954 views)

Decanted 1 hour, notes from memory. This followed our drinking the 2007. Medium pale yellow. Somewhat reticent bouquet. Good attack with swift development to a complex mid-palate showing lemon, pear, lemon curd and apple. This showed more depth than the 2007 and some toasted oak character that played very nicely with the acidity and minerality. As with the 2007, lovely balance. (2050 views)

Powerful nose, citrus fresh with a chalky mineral note. Big and dense, fills the palate with creamy lemon fruit, yet has good freshness and and zip. Great length with a lingering note of the seaside and fresh oysters. (2225 views)

Interesting nose, and I kept wondering whether it was the remnants of the prior Riesling in my glass (but it wasn't, as that wine was corked and I rinsed the glass well). Complex nose with wisps of apricot (other tasting notes for this wine note tropical aspects), lots of florality and fennel. The palate is nicely focused, with clear fruit and no overt oak except for the sleek and rounded contours. Nice acidity carries that palate to a finish of minerals. Overall, quite intriguing. There is some Chablis character here and the wine is certainly clean and well made. What this vintage gives is not what I love about Chablis - a bit large and the aromas can veer toward tropical. I am impressed though with what Fevre was able to do in this vintage, and that is to avoid excess. (3240 views)

Jez IV annual Festive drinks (16th Dec 2011) - Served side by side with an 06 Ponzi Chard. Contrasting styles (which was the intent of the side by side blind) Very tight on the nose, not giving up much. Citrus fruits with some minerality coming through. Light with good acidity. A grab bag of wines at Ashers (Westport, CT): A bit of reduction on the nose. Sulfur and matchstick aromas, but the palate was all Chablis, with lemons, flint and sea shells. Lean and svelte, but a nice bit of sneaky sappiness in the middle. (3703 views)

Third Thursday Group does Chablis - May 2011 (Willamette Wine Storage, Portland OR): The nose is interesting here, with scents of cucumber mixing with raspberry vines and green apples. Some bread crust scents show through as well. It has a gentle touch on the palate, with full acidity coming in later. Lemons and limes are gentle on the palate, and some apple flavors show on the finish. It's very dry and has some spritz to it while the acidity becomes ripping on the finish. 88+ (4125 views)

Premier & Grand Cru Chablis (Willamette Wine Storage): Tart and slightly funky aromas, but honestly it's a little flat. Strange chunky texture, with some surprising almost woodsy flavors. Burt wood, and some pear. Spicy acids, but then this wine completely calms my whole body... like I just entered the alpha brainwave state of meditation. Fascinating. For me, this is definitely more of an experience than it is me paying attention to the flavors. I take a sip and all of a sudden I feel totally blissed out. Beautiful and wild. Things just got quiet... over and over again. Once the trance is lifted, the palate feels quite gripped and coated, with pleasing acids. Again, a wine that will do well with additional age. This is a very big domaine in Chablis and I was there once in October 2005 so this bottle has something linking to my sense. Even the cheap wine from Fevre 2005 is always pretty good. This Grand Cru, no doubt, how great it is.

It’s only just begun…ready to drink…dramatic in mineral at the start, the mild toasted-oak gets along with style, dramatic remains, more structure, more dimensions, a sweetness appears...at the end, 2.30-3.00 hours, this is represented the Meursault character combined with a beautiful sweet in nosing. Extraordinary one !!!

The texture is also amazing, elegant, great balance, getting round and delicious. I hardly can’t stop drinkin’ it.

Aftertaste…ahh…very lovely tempting, not big nor powerful but linger…beautiful linger…beautiful finished.

Not as good as I hoped. A little disappointing for such a renowned Domaine. I cannot see the justification of paying the Grand Cru premium over some Premier Crus I have tasted. I think the Oliver Leflaive Premier Cru Chablis Montee de Tonnerre is better in 2005. (4393 views)
