2018 August West Pinot Noir Cortada Alta Vineyard (USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands) 5/17/2024John from GR91

Amazing funk on the nose. Almost CdP-like. Rich, dark fruits. Complex. Way above entry level Burgundies. My wife wanted fish, and I grilled some burgers with melted Boursin cheese for my dinner. This wine complimented both dishes. Sadly, my only bottle. (12 views)

2022 August West Pinot Noir (USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley) 4/27/2024Frank Murray III

Spicy, with a note of cherry tomato. The fruit leans on the black-er side, along with a cherry cola. I liked this but not as much as I wanted to, as I just felt like the acid was clashing with the fruit and some powdered cocoa from the wood (?). (184 views)

2017 August West Pinot Noir (USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley) 4/26/2024underwds89

Medium ruby color, with a touch of brick around the edge. Cherry and rhubarb fruit that was quite tart on opening. The sharpness mellowed out after a few minutes, but secondary flavors never really developed. Pleasant, but one note. (35 views)

2022 August West Pinot Noir Graham Family Vineyard (USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley) 3/4/2024Frank Murray III

Yikes. First note on the wine, so hey, no pressure! Been open 24 hrs. Most of it consumed yesterday, I didn't have any but have the leftover several ounces to drink tonight were left to me. My overall impression is that everything is working in harmony, and in sum this is delicious. What I appreciate is the absence of heat, excessive ripeness and no booze. All of these for me just ruin Pinot Noir and I don't care for any of it. Nothing of that here. Suave and elegant texture, lightly earthy black fruit with tangy cherry. The acid and oak (the right amount of new barrel here) marry nicely in the finish with just a touch of cinnamon stick and tar. Been some time since I have tasted AW Graham and it shows Ed's skill with Pinot and the vineyard. (347 views)

Light maroon color, really nice silky mouthfeel. Cherry and strawberry fruit, a little bit of baking spice, but then it’s all gone. No finish. (82 views)

2021 August West Pinot Noir (USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley) 2/3/2024pkbackman92

Another great "affordable" and delicious Pinot from Ed at August West. AW is consistently a producer you can rely on when reaching for a Pinot in your cellar and the '21 Russian River is no exception. Fruit forward without being in your face. So good! (91 views)

Really delicious - dark fruit, with candied/dried tones but no overt sweetness or jamminess. Excellent acidity. Very tasty. (140 views)

2021 August West Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands (USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands) 11/23/2023brigcampbell

Fruit forward, ripe strawberry and jammy red fruit. Does have a pronounced herbal quality but lacks the sophistication of some others. Good with grilled bird. (233 views)

2011 August West Syrah Rosella's Vineyard (USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands) 9/23/2023wino12195

Could be one of the best Syrahs of this year…
Yup it’s all there, nose, color, body, a completely mature and beautiful wine at this point.
I have one more and will drink it within a few months.
A crime that this winemaker no longer makes Syrah.
Drink now (100 views)

2012 August West Pinot Noir Peterson Vineyard (USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands) 8/19/2023John from GR92

The nose bursts of bright red fruits. Beyond the fruit is a touch of oak. Not the heavy handed vanilla often found in New World PN. After the oak came some candied cherry. Again, not the sarsaparilla California wine makers lean on. This wine reminds me of lighter Beaunes…. Medium bodied, with a lovely long finish. While 13 years old, this wine is not past it’s peak. I wish I had more 2012! (170 views)

2015 August West Pinot Noir Graham Family Vineyard (USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley) 7/11/2023underwds90

Ruby color, smooth across the tongue. Cherry & raspberry fruit, then some mushrooms and forest floor. Bridges the gap between plusher CA Pinots and restrained Burgundies.

8/24/2023 Lots of complexity, both in fruit and secondary notes. I didn't really pick up on the restraint as much this time. Not over the top, but it's full flavored to be sure.

10/20/2023 My palate seemed more attuned to the first tasting than the second for this bottle. Plenty of raspberry fruit, a touch of blueberry, and then a nice earthy finish with bits of mushroom and Pinot funk. Really enjoyed this bottle.

12/26/2023 Ditto my 10/20 note. (129 views)

2015 August West Pinot Noir Peterson Vineyard (USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands) 5/6/2023underwds88

Maroon color, almost thin on the mouth, but that's relative to CA Pinots. Tart cherry and cranberry fruit, albeit a bit muted. Forest floor and mineral on the finish. Overall restrained, which I generally prefer, but sadly its character didn't really come through.

9/1/2023 My notes on the first bottle seem harsh with what I recorded this time. Strawberry and cherry fruit, not so noticeably tart. Forest floor and earthiness on the finish. Looking forward to the final bottle to see if it's in line with this one. (158 views)
