2018 Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de' Frescobaldi) Brunello di Montalcino (Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino) 5/21/2024Sagan9991

I've been drinking this wine for 40 years.
I've never had a bad bottle.
Ever!

Apparently, these guys/girls at Frescobaldi just know how to make wine!
Despite weather issues from vintage to vintage, the consistency from one bottle to another is really remarkable.
This 2018 I thought might be a little austere and tannic and in need of a little softening.
But no... PnP, decant for 30 minutes, etc voila.
Delicious.

I'm not going to delve into the details like usual... It's always consistently fabulous.
And, in relative terms to other Brunellos, is inexpensive.

Sangiovese 100%
14.5% abv

Ribs with way too much BBQ sauce( overpowered the wine)
Rice stuffed red peppers
Tomatoes with Basil and EVO Oil.

NobleRottersSydney - Sangiovese & Tempranillo (Glass Brasserie, Sydney): {cork, 14.5%} [Graeme] A mix of floral, perfumed notes with dark cherry and plum jam characters underneath. Palate isn’t quite as fresh as the nose; despite medium acid and medium chalky tannins it finishes just a little short with a hint of astringency. Still OK, but time to drink up I’d say. (159 views)

2016 Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de' Frescobaldi) Brunello di Montalcino (Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino) 4/24/2024Dave Dewar

Bottle #1 of 3 (375 ml). Decanted 90 minutes. Medium-dark ruby, watery rim. Aromas of cherry, mocha, peanuts. Flavours of under-ripe strawberries. Full bodied, high acid, XD, medium tannin, m-h alcohol (14.5%). Fine but nothing special at this stage - hold. Will try my remaining bottles in 2032 and, perhaps, 2040. (897 views)

2001 Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de' Frescobaldi) Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Ripe al Convento (Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino) 4/20/2024finlero

Some light-to-moderate reduction, but eminently drinkable. Clean violet, very little bricking. Aside from the thiols, nose of plum and ammonia. Still good fruit on the palate, very ripe black plum, leather. Medium-long finish, nicely resolved tannins. Maybe approaching the end of its window, but to me, it's doing just fine. (101 views)

2014 Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de' Frescobaldi) Brunello di Montalcino (Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino) 4/17/2024gfwetzel90

At a restaurant, from a half bottle. Essentially PnP, although it developed reasonably over 30-60 minutes. These notes were taken at the end of that period. The wine's color is a medium+ garnet. The nose has red fruit (cherries+), a bit of tar, a bit of leather, a bit of earth. The palate has cherries, some forest floor, not a lot of complexity. The body of the wine is a solid medium with balanced acids and tannins. The tannins are mostly integrated by now and support the wine but are not intrusive. This is a nice wine, but not a great one (especially for the price at a restaurant). ABV 14.5% (228 views)

I have opened a number of these and this was the best by far. High acid, firm tannin. Lots of cherry notes and good complexity. (1220 views)

2016 Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de' Frescobaldi) Brunello di Montalcino (Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino) 4/13/2024jproject

PnP and initial thought is quite a nice nose that's more fruit forward than i expected with a hint of oak and slight brickish in colour. I think acidity is just right and nice balance of tannins as well that is not overpowering. Nice mid palate but I don't taste much complexity. I also think it has a short finish. However, overall I think this is a very easy drinking wine and I do enjoy it. (1259 views)

2010 Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de' Frescobaldi) Brunello di Montalcino (Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino) 4/13/2024Benoit Hardy92

Nose of black fruits, plums and pomegranate.

On the palate, the juice is intense, spicy and pure, with pleasant black fruit. Great flavor of a juice carried by a beautiful acidity. Aeration will bring a nice complexity with tobacco and leather. Good finish on cedar with a satisfying length.

Good Brunello which, given its evolution in the glass, is mature. (1205 views)
