2005 Charles Shaw Chardonnay (USA, California) 3/19/2024VinCA

Like others, slightly corked. Deep golden color. Acid has dissipated, leaving the wine rather flabby. Still some apple notes. C'mon it's a 20 year old bottle that cost $3 - can't be too picky. Last bottle, fortunately (43 views)

2021 Charles Shaw Cabernet Sauvignon (USA, California) 1/25/2024Winegirl195980

I’ve had worse wines that cost a lot more. Not the most lively, not exactly a robust Cabernet Sauvignon, but it’s drinkable (and cooked up great with braised beef ribs). (118 views)

2005 Charles Shaw Chardonnay (USA, California) 1/24/2024VinCA

Don't judge me! I never drink white wine and this has been in my cellar for years and years. Straw in color, nice fruit on the nose (delicious apple, pear), ever so slightly corked, and I'm surprised it hasn't become moreso in the bottle. It's actually pleasant to drink in small amounts, otherwise it seems like a headache for sure. Must have used some heavy preservatives in the winemaking process. (121 views)

2018 Charles Shaw Cabernet Sauvignon (USA, California) 1/18/2024rmh66

This wine starts a series dedicated to wine producers/makers who have passed in the last few years. Red cherry, Red Vines, menthol, SweetTarts, wood, a little new leather, and a little smoke on the nose. Tart cherry, cherry jam, more of that SweetTart thing, graphite, herbs, earth, and wood on the palate. Juicy acidity, grippy tannins, short-med finish that's not very delicious. It has that inexpensive wine taste that's hard to define. Lack of grape concentration? While one can say that it's drinkable for $4, that would be selling yourself short. Maybe spend a little more and get something a bit more interesting. You're worth it! I would rate this Average. (375 views)

2018 Charles Shaw Cabernet Sauvignon (USA, California) 11/27/2023sid_loves_wine83

There is no reason to buy this. Even if your budget is $4/btl, you can get some fun boxed wines around that price (Bota Nighthawk Red Blend for widely available, Borsao Garnacha or Vieille Ferme for the good stuff...) This is both sickly sweet and grossy bitter, a mess of seriously artificial grapey/strawberry jelly-esque syrup and the kind of oak chip addition that smells a bit like distant cigarette butts. $8 gets you 10x better wine for twice the cost. $12-$15 gets you 20x better, very much including the sometimes decent trader joes "reserve" labels. And because I have to say it, it tastes a lot like Meiomi, just to put into perspective how disastrous that wine is. Even the boxed wines at Traders are better, and they're cheaper than this. 2017 Charles Shaw Cabernet Sauvignon (USA, California) 10/6/2023IMKR79

$3 USD at Trader Joes

Drank after at cellar temp

Appearance:

Medium Ruby
Semi translucent, clear
Slight variation at the rim. Appears a tinge of browning.
light intensity, Alot of tears (assumption 13% alcohol),
quick runny legs (Assumption dry wine)

Nose:

Clean,
M(+) intensity
M alcohol
Fruity, bright. Red fruits. Some traces of floral and dusty notes.
and surprisingly, some traces of citrus??

Palate:

Dry
M body
M(+) acidity
M(-) Alcohol
L tannins
low intensity, simple. light fruity. Simple/linear. 1 dimensional.

Finish is almost non existent, except for the acidity.

Conclusion:

75 points

Balance is completely off. For a Cabernet Sauvignon, it drinks light a very crappy Pinot Noir. Acidity complete overwhelms the wine on the palate and finish. Lacks of structure with an almost non existent finish. (285 views)

2018 Charles Shaw Red Blend (USA, California) 4/12/2023Golf4collet88

Nose is fruity, spicy and oakey. First taste is a little fruity, spice(sandalwood?), vanilla, oak. Extremely complex for a $5 wine. This would be an outstanding daily drinker. With a bit more fruit oomph up front, this would be top notch. (284 views)

2020 Charles Shaw Sauvignon Blanc (USA, California) 1/27/2023IMKR

$3 at Traders Joe

Drank: Room temp

Appearance:
Clear, Pale intensity, Lemon in color

Nose:
Light intensity, ripe Citrus/Lemon, Apple or very weak Apple Juice

Palate:
Off dry
Medium+ body
Medium+ Acidity
Medium Alcohol
Low intensity
Lemon, Apple
No complexity

Short Finish, carries some of the acidity to the back (very low).

Conclusion: Disappointing. Nothing wrong, but nothing right with the wine. Nothing to make me feel offput by it. but very weak in flavor and nose, almost bland. Gets blander and blander within 15-30 min. 1/5

Update:

Day 2: Left in fridge overnight. Trying it out on day 2.
Drinking it cold.

Nose:
Intensity grew to Medium intensity.
Development of something like Pear/Melon at medium intensity
Candied/caramelized sugar seems to be present at Light+ intensity.

Green Apples present even stronger and day 1.

All still slowly fades away.

Palate:
Body still the same
Acidity feels higher now
Apples

no change in finish. (660 views)
