Cellared since release and shared by a generous friend. Perfectly mature burgundy. Sandalwood, dried rose pedals and red berries on the nose. Incredibly earthy, forest floor, and cherry with surprisingly grippy tannin that left the wine a little dry (will these ever fully resolve?). Not worth today’s premium, but a privilege to drink. 2nd of 3, decanted an hour, perfect level, cork third stained, more spice and lift than last bottle in Oct 18, fruit tending to red with surprisingly sour edge, usual Roumier purity and class, quite linear, more cerebral than pleasure packed, slightly lacking in roundness and volume, possible upside, 10+ years. Third time is the charm, opened EVEN earlier. Love this vintage chez Roumier (I recall writing this phrase a few times now), citrus, clean, great acidity, purple and blue fruit, lots of stem. So pretty with evident weight, a vintage to enjoy the special aromatics. 94 (296 views)

2002 Roumier Ruchottes Chambertin - this wine was weird. Super minty on the nose, palate was shut down hard (I guess no surprise since roumier). Felt like there was something wrong with the wine but the nose was so bright and eucalyptus driven I couldn’t be sure but at the same time it’s not exactly a scent I associate with Roumier let alone most burgundy.
