Drunk over 2 nights.Opened 1 hour beforehand with 30 mins in the glass.Whilst there was a flowery bouquet the wine was not nearly ready.The wine opened up on day 2 but still somewhat closed.Some fruit but still backward; elegant nonetheless.I think this wine needs at least another 5 years of cellaring.Nonetheless an enjoyable drink which could be so much better. My last bottle sadly. Very enjoyable. Strawberry herbs and spices with nicely balanced tannins and acidity. Such a lovely wine. However I don’t think it justifies the rediculous price you need to pay for the experience now.

Out-of-this world lifted nose of sweet strawberry fruit, secondary development giving herbal complexity, a hint of cola.
Strawberry fruit follows on the palate, mid-weight and elegant but with lovely persistence. Quite crunchy. Hint of stone fruits. Perfect supporting acidity & tannin. Energy on the finish. Absurdly delicious!

Still firm and a bit more advanced on the palate than expected but full of heart and character. There is something undoubtedly authentic in the dense brambly fruit, clearly defined vosne spice, all blanketed now by an attractive savory undertone. Lacks the depth of GE or CV but nice. (274 views)

Blind tasting. Orange, brick rim, oxidized blood red center. Red fruits, herbs, tea, smoke, tobacco, leather, hawthorn, orange peel and incense. Very tannic and bony structure.

Wine was aged prematurely for a 1996 Grand Cru. Label stated the bottle was imported by a merchant, Stacole, in Florida. Back then wine was shipped by sea and without climate controlled. The bottle, along with others in the lot, might have been exposed to heat during transport. (494 views)

Rob comes to London (67 Pall Mall): First time with Engel. Initially this wasn't particularly promising, showing fairly rustic and mature, but air did it a lot of good, with the nose becoming lifted and delicately floral on top of the lean, gamey red fruit. The wine was intriguing on the palate, with some deep cherry and plum fruit that was almost overwhelmed by blood, iron and smoked sausage - tastier than it sounds! Overall: Vosne meets Pommard/Nuits?
