Magnum. 60 minute decant. More red than black or blue fruits, but they were all present. Very ripe, but also some tangy sour fruit elements after mid palate that really enhances the ride. Some cedar notes and minerals. Very smooth. This mag had at least 5 more years of peak drinking. (175 views)

Drinking very very well, profile stereotypical well matured high end CA cab with no surprises. A real pleasure to drink but soft, well integrated and tannins all gone so at or maybe just past prime - time to drink up any holdings. Took about 30 minutes to really wake up and start singing. This one took a few minutes to open up and the cork was definitely disintegrating, but open up it did! The fruit was still there. The tannins while present were not obtrusive, though I do feel they were in stronger than the fruit to match. Altogether a very special bottle of old cab. (715 views)

Coravin'd a glass on night one, where it showed quite youthful and oaky. Opened on day 2, and the nose has evolved pleasant earthy, savory, cigar leaf, cab franc-like aromas. The texture is quite chewy, with moderate tannins, and flavors of cassis and tobacco. Purchased 10 years ago from Chambers St, this was in perfect condition and is aging fairly gracefully, though I would drink within 5 years or so. This picked up complexity with air, lost some of its oakiness and gained some cedar and red currant notes. (600 views)

This was the last wine I tried, so I was "noted" out. The nose was sweet with caramel, toffee aromas. I picked up beef broth, vanilla, and blackberries on the finish. Still loads of fruit support the wine. This was a new producer to me. (291 views)

From Methuselah (6L). Cork soft but no leaking and it came out in tact. and no seepage. Decanted 2 hours. Less than 1.5 tablespoons of sediment. Some modest bricking, but nice dark ruby color. A very dry wine with blackberries, nice food acidity, and cedar. Smooth with a 15 second finish. A lovely but simple wine that could have held its form in this format for another 5 to 7 years, but I doubt it would improve. (822 views)

Limited decant. Pours a dark ruby with brown and orange, some cloudiness. Nose is medium-strong cedar, cherry, orange peel, ethanol and mild leather. Palate has more alcohol. Wine is youthful and acidic, with gripping tannins.

If tasting blind, would guess a young, quality Rioja with a lovely nose and hot palate. This wine is 25 years old but other than some stuffy oak in background, you'd never guess it.

Wine really hits its stride 60-90 minutes in, and if I could do it over, I would have decanted 2 hours ahead. Alcohol subsides, and some warm toasted coconut flavors smooth the palate.

Beguiling wine. If you still have some, it will easily cellar another 2-5 years (or longer). Needs a decant, and ideally drink with a meal in case the alcohol is too much. (998 views)

From magnum last week. Just stunning for it's balance if not it's ferocity. It took 15-20 minutes to open up and in an hour had really come into it's own. Lots of dark blue fruits, the oak fully integrated. The fruit subtle yet broad and very food friendly. This wine strikes a wonderful balance. Each of the last few times I've opened one I've thought well it's not going to get any better and yet it has. Not in the classical sense of the oak subsiding and allowing the fruit to shine. Rather it's all become subdued and you can see how good each component is/was. (1827 views)
