2013 Linnaea Trifulau Barolo (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo) 7/14/2022robertel

Made the mistake of opening my first bottle on a whim and not allowing time in a decanter. Unfair on the wine, no rating recorded. First taste was raw, acidic with unresolved tannins. The wine settled over time and was more approachable with food. The Barolo elements are there and should come to the fore with time. Will not open my next bottle for another 5 years. (410 views)

N.V. Hugues Godmé Champagne Grand Cru Brut Rosé (France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru) 7/11/2021robertel85

On a recommendation, I bought three bottles of Hugues Godme Rose and opened the first one week later. I was disappointed with this first bottle. Beautiful colur and very fine bead, but there was no escaping an upfront bitterness which spoiled the enjoyment. Others who shared the bottle found the same. I'll reserve judgement until the other bottles have had more time to rest. (784 views)

1996 Lake's Folly Cabernets (Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley) 6/19/2021robertel94

My son was in his 15th year when this wine was vintaged. We shared this for his 40th birthday. Served with roast lamb and all the trimmings.
From a 1.5 litre magnum. The cork was in reasonabe condition with some softening. Initial bottle stink cleared with a 1 hour decant. Colour garnet, fading to orange at the rim. Nose of red berries, leather cedar and some damp forest floor. Soft in the mouth with just a hint of astringency to cut through the lamb. Taste supported the nose. A beautiful Lake's Folly, with a little time left in this large format. (1044 views)

2009 Lake's Folly Chardonnay (Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley) 6/5/2021robertel

I shared two bottles of this wine with family and a close friend over the weekend. The interest was that one bottle had a screw cap while the other was under cork. 2009 was the year that Lake's Folly introduced screw caps for their Chardonnay and I obtained a few under each seals. Both were stored under identical conditions for 11 years. Both wines were sound and beautiful to drink. Under scew cap the wine was pale lemon, with a bright and more lifted flavour profile. Under cork, the wine was yellow gold with a more buttery flavour in a flat (or fat) profile. The screw cap wine had time left, while that under cork was at the end of its drinking window. Concensus favoured the screw cap as the preferred wine on the night. (213 views)

2017 G.D. Vajra Langhe Nebbiolo (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC) 6/21/2019robertel90

Beautiful clean ruby. Lifted floral nose. Initial tasting gives an impression of lightness, but there is a fine tannin structure giving the wine a backbone. Very enjoyable. Will be interesting to see how this develops; the problem will be leaving my remaining bottles alone. (1669 views)

2006 Andrew Thomas Wines Shiraz Kiss (Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley, Pokolbin) 11/13/2018robertel94

Wine under cork. I'm not normally a fan of shiraz, but this wine could change my mind. Now 12 years old, holding well and drinking like liquid silk. (1054 views)

2009 Leconfield Cabernet Sauvignon (Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra) 9/30/2017robertel

- Garnet color and aromas of blackberry and mint. It's in total harmony and has flavours of black currant and dusty with a medium/full body. Satin-Like texture with a long finish - This wine is singing right now. Excellent! (1395 views)

2006 Roberto Voerzio Langhe Nebbiolo Vigneti S. Francesco Fontanazza (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC) 8/14/2015robertel90

- Garnet color and has flavours of rose - 1hr decant, not sufficient. Closed on nose, possibly too cool. Opened beautifully in the glass through meal. Classic rose with tar hints. Better on second day (2018 views)

2003 Lake's Folly Merlot (Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley) 3/25/2015robertel94

This wine is a real treat; something special.
Colour deep red/purple with only a little rusty change toward the edges.
Nose; pure and powerful with dark fruits with a background smoky sweetness (caramel?). Some floral hints, maybe reminiscent of a Barolo? Hard to take your nose away from the glass.
Taste; mouth-feel velvety with, still, just a touch of astringency. Flavours were rich and supported the nose. Long finish.
A few years left yet. (889 views)
