1999 Clos Apalta (Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley, Apalta) 10/2/2017efeldhake@yahoo.com92

Deep garnet with a slight bricking edge. Nose of dark cherries, dark chocolate, and leather. Tastes of cherries, crushed blackberries, dark chocolate, tar, and slight earthiness. Lovely fruit and structure. Still holding up well but at or just past prime. Drink over the next 3-5 years. (3063 views)

1999 Clos Apalta (Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley, Apalta) 12/12/2015Javachip92

Allowed to breathe in glass 1 hour before tasting. Clear deep dark garnet color. Lovely fresh bouquet of boysenberries, cherries and black currants and their liqueurs, along with mocha, fennel, anise, hints of tobacco, nutmeg, cloves, and forest floor. Similar on the palate, full body, rich, generous, bit of brandy-like alcoholic heat despite the cool serving temperature. Mouth-coating tannins and firm acidity suggest many good years ahead. Improved with air and held up well under vacuum stopper for four days in refrigerator. (4269 views)

Blackberry and red cherry, quite ripe but not overripe; good acidity, intense palate with long finish; this still has some ways to go; kept improving over two days. (4693 views)

(4656 views)

1999 Clos Apalta (Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley, Apalta) 8/11/2011BigJul

Merci Alain. 1999 Clos Apalta (Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley, Apalta) 12/7/2010Employee50092

Soft and round....fruit is still primary in character, but nothing overripe or overly rich here....Really a nice, balanced, drinkable wine. Very Pomerol-like. Impressive. Really not showing any tertiary characteristics or development at all, surprisingly youthful, but the fruit and tannins have definitely softened and mellowed just a bit. Approachable, something like a 1998 Right Bank.... (3500 views)

Tasted at XMAS 2008, Jeremy brought a bottle to Sunriver. Wonderful wine that continues to open and give more as you let it sit in the glass. Near oeak I would say so drink by 2010 for best fruit. Rated 92 by WS and 94 by WE. (3175 views)

Drank over 3 nights and improved each time. On first opening this wine was very closed, sharp and tannic. Even at 10 years old this wine was a dark purple colour. Overall very good but not great (3587 views)
