2007 Montes Syrah Cherub (Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley) 6/3/2008rjoyer89

Unscrewed and poured, followed over two nights.

Vibrantly translucent red in the glass, that is very pretty to look at. A little muted on the nose at first, until it came up in temp, where rich cherry fruit and melon notes took hold. A little disjointed on night one with the palate showing all of it's edges. On night two, it had smoothed out a bit and gained a touch of weight on the midpalate. More lush red cherries along with something that reminded me of watermelon syrup for snowcones, without the excess sweetness. Could use a bit more acid, but I don't think there is a void here. Managed to pair very well with grilled chipotle chicken, and seems like a versatile food wine for the warm summer evenings. Very nice, and a great buy at $12. (1815 views)
