2007 Noon Eclipse (Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale) 12/13/2011JonathanP86

A powerful Grenache/Shiraz blend from South Australia that, for my palate, reveals too much of its 16% alcohol. Plenty of ripe fruits and dark chocolate on the nose, with a plush palate; dominated by spirity, big, bold fruit and decently supported by dusty tannins. Although acids are definitely in the background, the wine avoids being soupy. Although this is reported to be aged in only ~15% new barrels, the finish is quite drying. Although this may appeal to some, it's strong points are not what I'm looking for in a wine. (4689 views)

2009 Le Temps des Cerises (Axel Prüfer) Fou du Roi (France, Vin de Table Français) 12/10/2010JonathanP87

A natural wine primarily comsisting of grenache, cinsault and carignan with no added sulphur and clocking in at only 12%. The wine is dark magneta in colour and relatively cloudy. Cherry, cherry and more cherry on the nose and palate which is nicely rounded out by bitter almond and a touch of black olive. This is a very easy to drink light to medium bodied red with moderate length. Although I've only had minimal experience with this style of wine before, the underwhelming tannin structure suggests that it's a wine to be consumed young, probably within five years from vintage. That said, the acidity is crunchy and fresh and gives the wine a nice vibrancy. Although I felt a spritzty element tarnished the mouthfeel a little this is definately an interesting wine I'd be happy to try again in a couple of years. (1367 views)
