2004 Hawkes Merlot (USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley) 12/18/2010markjahnke90

This was one of the better merlot we've had in a few years. Formal notes to cme. (1444 views)

2006 De Loach Merlot Private Collection (USA, California) 4/30/2010markjahnke83

This was the last bottle of the night, and the first thing I grabbed. This was given to us as a gift, so why not. Nose of dark berry fruits, with hints of oak, eucalyptus, and vanilla. Nothing super inspiring, but not offensive in the least. Hints of spice and earthiness rounded out the nose, with the smallest hint of coffee bean. On the palate, this was very drinkable, and would make for yet another good house wine. I don’t think most people would guess this was merlot in a blind tasting, but the fruit profile was nice. More dark black and blue berry on the palate, with hints of plum and dark cherries. Nice spice, a good crisp acidity, and subtle tannins made this wine very easy to drink. I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy this wine, but I could see many guests enjoying this wine. This once again proves that there is nothing in the least wrong with drinking merlot. Not inspiring in the least, and I wouldn’t run out to purchase this wine, but I would indeed drink it again. 83 points. Cheers! (2254 views)

2003 Columbia Crest Merlot Grand Estates (USA, Washington, Columbia Valley) 9/6/2009markjahnke89

The last of the '03's, and the best yet. Wish I woud have picked up another case way back when, because this is drinking very nicely right now after an hour splash decant! Delicious quaffer... (3955 views)

2005 Golan Heights Winery Merlot Gamla (Israel, Galilee, Golan Heights) 4/9/2009markjahnke82

Received from one of my wife's clients in Israel, so why not. Nice fruit on this wine, but this is an over-oaked monster. Regardless, it paired nice with pizza on the bistro. (1435 views)

2003 Columbia Crest Merlot Grand Estates (USA, Washington, Columbia Valley) 12/27/2007markjahnke86

This juice is still drinking nice, but won't get any better in my opinion. Still tons of dark fruit on the nose, with hints of vanilla and oak. Cheap easy drinking merlot, perfect for burgers or if you just want a nice drinking red. Still have 2 left, but assume the '04 will be just as good. Great QPR! (3412 views)

2005 Trader Joe's Merlot Coastal (USA, California, Central Coast) 11/23/2007markjahnke

K-Fed didn't have any vino so I gave this bottle to him to bring to Kim and Elliott's 2nd Annual "Day After Thanksgiving" Party. Didn't taste it, so I couldn't tell you what it tasted like. But this is a prime example of why we have wines like this laying around the house! (1513 views)

2003 Columbia Crest Merlot Grand Estates (USA, Washington, Columbia Valley) 4/28/2007markjahnke85

Drank this bottle on the deck with Arounkone and Debbie Doodlebug. As usual it was a tasty bottle that is always enjoyable for the price. Was paired with brats, burgers, and turkey dogs. Hit Jesters Cafe afterwards. (5776 views)
