2020 Château Beau-Site (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe) 9/30/2023Jeff Leve91

March 21, 2023 - Black and red currants, coffee bean, licorice, and smoke create the nose. Medium-bodied, creamy, and fresh, with soft-textures, and chalky red fruits with a background note of chocolate on the mid-palate, and in the finish, this is going to be delicious in its youth, and age for over a decade. Drink from 2023-2038. (1987 views)

2020 Château Angélus Grand Vin Blanc (France, Southwest France, Vin de Pays Pyrénees-Atlantiques) 9/28/2023Jeff Leve95

The nose offers its flowers, yellow citrus peel, green apples, white peach and pear nuances with ease. The fruits are ripe, sweet, pure and fresh, with lift, energy and a touch of honey, which adds richness and an extra layer of complexity. The wine blends 40% Chardonnay, 30% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon. Only 100 cases are produced per vintage. Drink from 2023-2032. (1856 views)

1961 Château Montrose (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe) 9/27/2023Jeff Leve95

The best example of this gem I have ever tasted delivered all of its spicy, red currants, green pepper, herbs, cedar, tobacco, and cigar wrapper with ease. More regal than elegant, full-bodied, and intense, with a cedar, currant and tobacco finish. Drink from 2023-2030. (2265 views)

1989 Château Montrose (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe) 9/27/2023Jeff Leve98

Often as good as, and sometimes even better than the famous 1990, this bottle was singing at the top of its lunch with layer after of sweet, ripe, juicy currants, flowers, citrus, and cedar. Long, intense, concentrated, full-bodied, and harmonious, this is one of the wines of the vintage. Drink from 2023-2055. (3844 views)

1990 Château Montrose (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe) 9/27/2023Jeff Leve100

Bacchus was shining on us today because 1990 is either murdered by brett, or if it's clean, the bottle can be majestic. This bottle was majestic and more. The wealth of palate-staining, perfectly ripe, sweet, regal fruit is something to behold. The finish hits the 60-second mark, crosses it with ease, and keeps right on going. However, it is imperative to keep in mind the wine is Jekyll or Hyde and there is no way to know without popping a cork. Drink from 2023-2055. (3969 views)

1955 Château Montrose (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe) 9/27/2023Jeff Leve96

The perfume of aged Bordeaux is on fire with its cedar, tobacco leaf, ash, sea salt, spice, herbs, red cherries, and redder currants. The finish is chewy, chunky, and firm, yet regal as well. Fully mature, if you have a bottle and its well stored, you are in for a treat. Drink from 2023-2030. (2006 views)

1989 Château La Conseillante (France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol) 9/27/2023Jeff Leve97

If you want to experience silky Pomerol at its best, this is a great example. Elegant, and refined, with purity to the cherries, and plums, the wine remains fresh, lifted, and loaded with truffles, roses, violets, wet earth, and a touch of cocoa. Popped, and poured, this is drinking at its apogee. Drink from 2023-2029. (2344 views)

1953 Château La Mission Haut-Brion (France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan) 9/27/2023Jeff Leve95

Powerful, chunky, and with a strong lean to its secondary side with all of its smoke, burnt wood, herbs, wet earth, spice, mushroom, and red currants. The almost rustic finish is chewy, classic, and delicious. Drink from 2023-2025. (1912 views)

1953 Château Haut-Brion (France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan) 9/27/2023Jeff Leve99

Tasting fully mature at its best is one of the wine world's greatest treats, and this bottle lived up to its potential. Red fruits smothered in an ocean of Cuban cigars, burning wood, spice, and tar unfold in the perfume and on the silky, long, earthy herbal, tobacco, and red currant palate. The finish starts strong and never lets up. At 70, this is an incredible tasting experience. Though, waiting to open if you have a bottle, is not your best move. 70 is a long time for even the world's best wines to live. Drink from 2023-2028. (1979 views)

1953 Vieux Château Certan (France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol) 9/25/2023Jeff Leve96

I might never see this wine again, but the memory is going to linger for years. The nose shoots out of the glass with its dried flowers, smoke, liqueur, cherry, truffle, and smoked cigar nose. The palate remains full, deep, and concentrated, and even though it is fully mature, the wine is surprisingly soft, lush and continues to express its once, probably opulent character. If you can find a well-stored example, grab it and invite me to taste it! Drink from 2023-2033. (1790 views)

1961 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien) 9/25/2023Jeff Leve99

A stunning example that hit all of its marks, starting with its haunting perfume loaded with tobacco, mushrooms, cedar chest, leather, currants, mint leaf, and cherries. Full-bodied, concentrated, and balanced perfectly between its regal character and layers of still vibrant, earthy, ripe, red fruits. The finish stuck its mark with close to 60 seconds of pleasure in every sip. A good bottle is a majestic tasting experience. Drink from 2023-2035. (2289 views)

1961 Château Gruaud Larose (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien) 9/25/2023Jeff Leve94

A good, but not great bottle of this often sublime tasting experience was a bit more on the secondary side, with its focus on all of its leafy, spice, and herbal character, with glimpses of red berries. Concentrated, chewy, and earthy, with a lean to the cigar wrapper side on the palate, I have had better, more interesting bottles. Drink from 2023-2031. (2195 views)

1961 Château Ausone (France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru) 9/25/2023Jeff Leve97

A dramatically better bottle than my last tasting experience, this hit all the right notes with its cedar, mint, dried flower, cherry, red plum, and cigar wrapper nose. Concentrated, refined, long, and harmonious, this was simply thrilling to taste. Drink from 2023-2030. (1944 views)

1953 Château Beychevelle (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien) 9/25/2023Jeff Leve95

With all the tobacco leaf, cedar, cigar wrapper, and currants you need in the nose before you find all those sweet, ripe, earthy, bright currants on the palate, the wine is everything a textbook example of a fully mature Bordeaux should be. No decanting or aging is warranted, just pop, pour and enjoy, if you can find a well-stored bottle. Drink from 2023-2025. (1863 views)

Smoke, charcoal, crushed stones, dried flowers, cherries, and plums create the core of this wine. The palate is long, fresh, clean, and loaded with mineral-laden red fruits, green olives, and peppery spice. Drink from 2023-2035. (2134 views)
