Considering the weather here is pretty hot and the alcohol is 13.9% the wine has great fruit. Very extracted considering the main grape is Merlot.
I had a half bottle at Psada del Tepozteca. I was pretty amazed. I was looking for high quality grapes to buy or do a wine venture with in 1999. At that time there were only a hand full of players. Non as good as this. At least not that I could find.
The Mexico/California venture never took off though I knew then and still do that the potential for this wine growing area is far from what it could be and should be. MF drug cartel has made the place hostile for truism. Today, military checkpoints every 10 miles.
The wine is very extracted. Would not have guessed Bordeaux grapes. 100% Malbec is more my guess had I tasted the wine blind. It's in it's own standing when comparing. Having been a wine maker for many years and having had the opportunity to tasted many wines over the years I still leave the multi adjective descriptions to the experts….blah, blah, blah.
Bottom line. If you like medium to full body Malbec/Rhone(I know it's Merlot/Cab dominant) type wines this wine is a steal. I paid $50(dollars not pesos) for a 375cc. Totally worth it. Mexico is FINALLY beginning to reach it's potential. BRAVO!!!!! If available in the US I'm buying a case(this is at a time I'm selling 50 cases to clear space)
