2014 William Harrison Cabernet Franc Rutherford (USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford) 3/14/2022pdadams6690

Dark center, red rim with purple, no real signs of age.
Creamy pipe tobacco, cherries and black plums, green peppers and chocolate.
Smooth, ripe black fruits - candied cherries and plums, brambles, touch of polished leather, balanced acidity and tannins, finishes with green peppers, and dark chocolate.
Excellent Harrison Cab Franc, good now, will improve over the next 3+ years. (472 views)

Dark ruby color. Luscious fruit forward. Divine! Drinking well now. Will likely hold nicely for several more years if properly cellared. (943 views)

A solid Cab Franc. Disagree that it has peaked. Will improve with additional bottle age. A bit rustic at the moment, will become more velvety in another few years. Medium finish. Blackberry, ripe plum. Enjoyable with or without food. (1017 views)

2014 William Harrison Cabernet Franc Rutherford (USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford) 6/26/2020mflesh

Showing a little brambly wildflower, dirty black cherry and that CLASSIC Rutherford dustiness on the finish. 8 months since opening up one of these and this has definitely shown a bit of maturation vs previous notes. Top of the hill probably 5 years away. Drinking well tonight with an hour decant. (1001 views)

2014 William Harrison Cabernet Franc Rutherford (USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford) 5/4/2020John McCabe92

I've been to the winery many times and it's fun to visit - it's actually the smallest winery by acreage in Napa if I'm not mistaken. This was quite attractive. There is a plush texture which I find common across the '14 vintage in Napa and I far prefer this vintage to the '13 across Napa which I find to be congested and a bit stifling. The Cab Franc tone comes across - a bit more aloof and mineral-driven compared to a Cab Sauvignon. This is pretty good value and will benefit from more age. The '07 of this wine I remember being staggeringly good and I had to buy as much as I could (even direct from the winery) - it never disappointed; no other vintage has come close though to be honest. 2014 William Harrison Cabernet Franc Rutherford (USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford) 10/4/2019mflesh92

Tasted alongside a 2016 Amizetta cabernet franc. In comparison, this is definitely the thoroughbred. Made for long term aging, this wine displayed incredible astringency from start to finish. Had a wonderful black cherry and rhubarb front, a little bit heated to the middle with some dried herb and allspice. Lots of wildflowers on the nose and entry. The finish was quite astringent with lots of stiff youthful oak tannin. If this was open for about two hours, it would have killed. So, for those that choose to open this one now, give it a fairly long time to breathe. Better yet, keep it in the cellar for about 3 or 4 years. (708 views)

2014 William Harrison Cabernet Franc Rutherford (USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford) 7/15/2018mflesh

My previous two notes just about sum this up. Although rather drinkable and rather enjoyable right now, the wine that I poured after it slow-oxed in bottle for 20 or so hours was more worthy of a 95. The other two will sleep in long-term storage for a few years. (750 views)

Still with a lot of youthful black cherry, but this wine has developed quite a bit in the last 4 months. Still sweeter fruit on the front, but still lots of very stiff tanning on the fish. If anything like the vintages before it, it will take three to five years before it starts to show its true colors. The vintages to drink right now appear to be 2008, 2009, and maybe 2010. This wine was compared directly to a 2014 Arnyca Cabernet Franc and I can say that both CF's tonight were not ready to go just yet. The Arnyca had more rounded fruit, power, blackberry and some blueberry sweetness, with a hint of chocolate in the finish. This 2014 Harrison Cabernet Franc had a nose that gave away its volcanic foundation, and raised you some brambly, earthy loam. Although I never would have guessed the Arnyca was a CF, it would have been the first or second choice for me for the Harrison. The entry of this wine is medium + density, blackberry, hawthorne, brambleberry, less sweet fruit in the middle and finish, more like red cherry and bramble. Had kind of a hole in the middle to the finish, and finished with quite a bit of tannin, some black pepper spice. This wine is a B=A=B=Y, and has a lot of growing up to do. The fair WH comparison to this 14 as far as density goes probably would have been the 2010, possibly the 2009, which says quite a bit for the 14 Arnyca. Cannot wait until I get my other 3 WHW 14 CF's....that I will promptly let sit for 3-4 years before enjoying. Enjoy 2020-2030. (673 views)
