Drinking very nicely right now, I would say it's at its peak and will only start losing fruit moving forward. Lots of acidity, bright red fruit and sous-bois, with very fine tannins. Took a good 30 minutes in the glass to really open up - impeccably balanced. (4659 views)

This wine was great- at its peak, drink now, but layered and interesting. "Better" than the 2005 we had at the same time, although that was more youthful and bright, without the same complexity (4761 views)

Dark ruby with a bit of bricking. Herbal, with a dusty sous-bois nose and notes of blackcurrants and blackberry. Elegant, with good acidity and fine tannins, and rather cool, backward fruit. Very left-bank Bordeaux-like, but equivalent to Clarets much older than 2004. I'd say drink up or wait a few years, but I there's a risk that the fruit will disappear and leave only greenness behind. From a magnum, this is in better shape than most Castels I've had after a few years of bottle age (and better than my last magnum of it too), retaining some robust cabernet character and a black-tinged fruit complexion without the fading that others have gone through with cellaring. Still, it hasn't changed my opinion that Castel's better to drink young. It seemed to lose some personality and focus over the course of the bottle and just seems more generic now than when it was young and showing everything. (5304 views)
