Wonderfully mature and integrated this had ripe sweet cassis fruit offset by a subtle savoury element. Complex, age has softened and rounded the tannins, which simply melt away in the mouth. It still retained freshness and lift, and yet had time for a lingering farewell as the flavours persisted. Superb. CHP 95 pts (1311 views)

At present, this is my favourite Paulliac from 1995, and outdrinking the first growths. It is forward for the vintage, and is mature, and seductive, but with the tannic restraint typical of the year in general. The nose is aromatic with cherry and blackcurrant, with cedar and menthol. The palate is exquisitely balanced between a silky smoothness and a tannic punch; a real iron fist in a velvet glove. The finish is a little light initially but eventually kicks in and it pushes past 30 seconds. Absolutely tremendous, and the first decent premillenial vintage after the legendary 1982 and excellent 1986, but for myself pipped by the 1996. 95+ (1732 views)

Can't fault it! Once you uncork it, the distinctive charm and aristocratic aroma arise from the bottle! Deep ruby colour, nose of sweet, ripe berry fruits, the jewellery fruits dancing on your palate and a very lengthy, rewarding finish! A class of its own. Wish I had a case! (1658 views)

Still beautiful and delicous but feels a bit past peak now - this bottle anyway, more cedar / basement than previous bottles, fruit softer. Still a lovely wine but may be start of a slow decline. (2321 views)

Stunning. Peak of maturity, elegance, balance, equilibrium. Graphite, pencil shavings. Goes down like water. This has hit its peak of perfection but will continue to develop over time, although perhaps not improve from this particular peak. First rate Bordeaux. (2271 views)

This seems fully mature now but will definitely last. It’s a beautifully elegant and seamless wine with great balance and silky-smooth tannins. Interestingly, the Cab Sauv in this vintage is 45% with 40%+ Merlot and it really shows in the roundness and suppleness of the wine. Many people’s favorite wine of the night but I slightly preferred the '96 drunk alongside. Commanderie Dinner, The Modern (2124 views)

This is a big bold wine. Dark fruit but with really good balancing acidity. Leather and earthiness in the background. Drink it slow as the evolution over a few hours is wonderful. (1016 views)

Paired with roast beef lots of veg and roast potatoes for lunch. Cork came out intact. Notes of black fruit, pencil and earthy forest floor integrated tannins in the background. It was in beautiful balance and a lovely enjoyable wine. My last bottle, but as when I tried the remains later in the evening, it was fading and not so enjoyable, I wonder how much longer it’s drinking window is. (1835 views)

Agree with the notes below of elegance and finesse, tannins receded into the background. Drinking beautifully after 2hrs of slow ox.

Started going downhill after about 6hrs which leads me to believe it’s in a nice spot right now and will stay here for the next 3-5 years. (1576 views)

An attractive wine, not seeking to overwhelm but to bring finesse. Fruits were cassis, fig, and dark berries alongside light minerals and meadow grass. The tannin was present to hold it together but stayed in the background. (1804 views)

A vintage with a larger percentage of Merlot in the blend - 45% Cab, 40% Merlot and 15% CF.

Very nice level of freshness, and the deep dark core appearance makes this seem a little younger then it actually is. Coming up to 30 years.. wow!

I found this to have an energetic ripe feel, with plum-like plushness and rich mouthfeel. Thus, I thought.. this is a Right Bank. Perhaps this was contributed by the higher levels of Merlot.

There was a nice complex level of sticky and concentration, which gives the impression of being rather muscular. Some remaining tannic grip. But this is a Pauillac in such nice balance, that it also comes across as elegant.

I did a studious deep-dive into this excellent vintage some 4 months ago, so will spare you reading more copious notes at this point!

2023 New Year's Day Blind Tasting (Marietta, GA): Deeper garnet with maroon rim; sexy nose, truffle, exotic spice, this seems like the L'Evangile I brought, red currant but a fleshier feel to it, cedar and luxurious wood, sandalwood, a bit abrupt on the finish and a bit of tannin suggest a little more aging would be best, also a little bit of sweat; maybe Left Bank but lots of Merlot if so; delicious, 94+, maybe it is still on the upswing because this was a magnum.
