N.V. Taylor (Fladgate) Porto 50 Year Old Tawny (Portugal, Douro, Porto) 9/17/2023MAkita96

A really surprising, really special wine this. Tried head to head with a 10, 20, and 30yr tawny, the 2015 Quinta de Vargellas, and the epic 1994--while the 1994 was the obvious standout, this really shone. This has picked up so much complexity in its long journey that it's hard to describe. It tastes halfway between an excellent Madeira (with that same raisiny sweetness and tang) and an excellent tawny due to some oxidation, which also explains its burnt caramel color. Truly lovely, and a unique wine to my palette. If the 1994 tasted like a perfected port, this tasted like something else all its own (117 views)
