Blind. Not as tough/bigger than most Cras, high-ish alcohol, perhaps a cooler vintage? Tastes a lot younger than it is (French bottle, if it matters). Crispy purple fruit showing vintage power, with air turning lacy if not as clearly defined as the mighty BM from the same year. 93 (505 views)

Kuki'o Wine Trip 2019; 9/22/2019-9/28/2019 (Champagne & Bordeaux): Great bouquet that is still super youthful although aromatically playful and expressive. Rosy florals above more concentrated black and red fruit. Perfumed but also a little punchy. Totally comparable to the Bonnes Mares, if a little dialled back. 93 -94. (2759 views)

Roumier’s wines are built to age, and the 96 Les Cras is a perfect example. I have enjoyed a six pack of this wine and found the best bottles were 20+ years old. When finally ready, Les Cras is a quintessential Chambolle with elegance and punch to burn. The wine has a wonderfully minerality. A mini Bonnes Mares if you will. Everyone pursues his Grand Crus, but this 1st Cru is a beautifully built to age Chambolle at a fraction of the cost (& he makes magnums of the wine in most vintages.) Great wine! (2731 views)

Sushi at Matsuya Sushi Bar. Dark red, almost inky like. Roumier's wines really evolve at a snail's pace. Lots of violets, cranberry, cherries on the nose. Some barnyard, leather, forest floor, mandarin orange, spice with extended time, but this wine just seemed so brooding. On the palate, there was just an overwhelming amount of acidity, masking the fruits and other flavours. I don't think there was any reflection of Chambolle here and yet again, I've had another disappointing bottle of Roumier. Perhaps they just need much more time. (3917 views)

This is evolving at a glacial pace but is finally beginning to drink and is made very much in a vin de garde style. Lean and very classy with just a gorgeous cherry/mineral nose and similar flavors. Finally well-integrated and just lovely but subtle and crisp with a fine, silky texture and good underlying power despite it's supreme elegance. Tightly complex and refined on the finish and it improved vastly with guinea fowl at Le Coq Rio, NYC. Should continue to evolve well. 93+ (3698 views)

Drank at bar of Vie. Roumier killed it in 96 and this is another example. Drinking stupendous now with excellent balance and no excessive acid. Dark fruit with a touch of earth. Excellent nose and length. I'll buy more if reasonable. (4174 views)

Really excellent color with little fading. Nice nose of medicinal cherries, dark earth and floral notes. Tight and unyielding with firm tannins and crisp acidity. Showing lovely medicinal cherry fruit flavors with a nice mineral content. This is still a hard wine and while it doesn't deliver much pleasure now, there is a sense that there is a depth of complexity underneath. It is well balanced and from Roumier so I would guess this wine will get there eventually but it isn't close yet. (4671 views)

An Offline for Luke (28-50, London): Possibly a little reduced initially with a slightly rubbery nose, but this soon blows off. Nicely mineral, quite grippy, but there's a lacy elegance through the mid-palate to the finish. An edginess/nervosity here. Lovely but a little shy at this stage. ***(*) This has tightened up since last tasting in 09 and is showing far more class. (5653 views)

Somewhat chunky and rough, a real rustic beast, the acidity was all over the place. Not un-enjoyable, but compared to its tablemates this was a real barbarian. (2645 views)

Popped and poured due to circumstances, which was a mistake. Initially reticent, acidic nose. over time, pretty red fruits and that sauvage character that you can only find in burgundy emerge, but it was sadly towards the end of the bottle after 3-4 hours. good depth and concentration. I'm not sure it ever completely outgrows its structure, though my opinion may be too colored by the incorrect decanting treatment. (3824 views)

Every time I drink a Roumier, I expect fireworks, like a virgin waiting for her first orgasm... still waiting, after several bottles. Perhaps I just drink them too young. Great acidity, some interesting cola and caramel, besides the usual red berries, but nothing really astonishing. I am keeping my Amoreuses, Bonnes Mares, and especially my Musignys for the next 15 years (if I can), perhaps I'll get that epiphany that some Roumier fanatics talk about all the time... Great wine though, just my expectations were too high... (4521 views)

Pretty cherry spice and barnyard nose. Quite high-toned and made in a leaner style with firm acidity and tangy, slightly medicinal cherry fruit. Quite juicy and still surprisingly primary, it seems as if this premier cru wants to try aging like a grand cru. Finishes fairly tight without great length or complexity but goes well with food. I will save the rest of my stash for a while and see what happens. 90+ (2689 views)
