2006 Pio Cesare Barolo (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo) 7/7/2018Mossrose93

A Wine Advocate 94 pointer that we bought for only $40. Pours amazingly dark for a Nebbiolo from Piedmont. Opaque with an inch pour. Rich nose filling aromas, and concentrated and coating in the mouth with juicy acidity and near lush and round texture. While highly enjoyable at 12 years old, will be even greater aged another 5 years. (258 views)

Decanted for two hours. Beautiful expression of Barolo near its peak. Should drink well for another 5-10 years. (695 views)

2006 Pio Cesare Barolo (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo) 11/11/2023Outplaying

Popped, poured and consumed over a few hours. Initially, this was a bit funky, with mushroom, earth and raisiny notes. Ann said it reminded her of Amarone. With air, it freshened some, but still had a lot of earthy, leathery notes. Darker fruit tones; maybe a touch overripe. Not bad, but nothing to get excited about either. I have another bottle or two that I will try to drink in the next year or so. (671 views)

Underwhelming, I expected firm tannins and full mouthfeel. Seemed flabby and I think pats it’s prime. (1179 views)

I remember this being a tannin wine so i gave it a good long decant of about five hours. The wine sported. A lovely nose of rose petals, cherry and tar. The palate had a delicious entry but continue to show the strong tannins I remember from last time I tried this. It’s unclear to me how long it take or whether this will ever fully open up. 2006 Pio Cesare Barolo (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo) 7/30/2021Arch5792

What a difference decanting and air time makes compared to a Coravin sample a few months ago. Certain wines like this Barolo require proper aeration and I’ve upped my previous score to better represent what this wine can achieve.
This has that brick red translucent color associated with Nebbiolo. The nose was a mixture of earthy notes and darker red fruit. On the palate the tannins were still present suggesting many more years but they smoothed out over the evening and the finish grew in length and was quite satisfying. A wine to slowly savor so patience is needed. (2513 views)

2006 Pio Cesare Barolo (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo) 11/17/2020Phillybadger94

Way better than I thought this could be, especially considering the cork broke in half and I had to do surgery to open this bottle without letting the cork touch the wine! While many complained of the lack of fruit (partially true in my perception), this wine more than makes up for it in delicate spice, a beautifully floral note, and an impeccable finish. I did get faded cherry on the nose, with secondary notes of leather and clove. The mid mouth has a touch of sweetness (in a good way), which leads to a finish that keeps you wanting more. Refined enough to sip, sturdy enough to stand up to my skirt steak with chimichurri. Wonderful, pleasant surprise as I though this would be on the decline... (2712 views)

Light ruby. Cherry, tobacco nose. Subdued fruit, tobaccos, leather and earth. Balanced with medium body and narrow texture. Smooth with medium length finish. Paired well with lasagna. Similar to 2005 vintage. 2004 vintage beats both. (1795 views)
