Medium bodied, slightly opaque dark purple color - its lacks harmonious complexity one would seek from the diverse sources, rather it presents modest pomegranate, cherry and black cherry fruits with tones of leather, earth and dried herbs accented by hints of anise and mint on a somewhat flabby moderate tannin finish. (1782 views) | | Tasted by RobertWinesWeLove on 4/27/2013 & rated 88 points: Stor doft av plommon, läder. Rund elegant smak med mjuka tanniner. Hyffsat lång eftersmak (2331 views) | | Tasted by Blauweiss on 3/13/2013 & rated 90 points: Red berries, vanilla, strawberry and earth on the nose. Taste is almost burgundian in it´s frailty, berries and soft tannins. Opens up after about an hour or two, so I recommend careful decanting, surprisingly complex and very good! (2328 views) | | Tasted by RJurman on 2/11/2012 & rated 89 points: On it's way down. Still drinking well now but do not hold. Simple, but not a bad merlot. (2725 views) | | Tasted by pdadams66 on 7/13/2010 & rated 86 points: Well balanced merlot - not overblown. Drinking well now. (3198 views) | | Tasted by Blue Shorts on 8/9/2008: Fruity nose. A one dimensional palate. It's boring and tannic. A waste of time and not worht the $. This wine should cost around $10 (2338 views) | | Tasted by burningstarIV on 9/12/2005 & rated 89 points: Barrel sample. This has quite a bit of backbone for a merlot. I wonder what was blended in, but it has great structure and a lengthy finish. 50+4+12+16+7=89 (2489 views) |
| Atalon Producer websiteMerlotMerlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
