Tasted by wineton.mee on 3/17/2024 & rated 93 points: Very serious Sauvignon Blanc, probably one of the most serious I’ve tasted and unsurprisingly coming from one of the most serious makers in the world. Very ripe and some tertiary development already. Lemon curd, pineapple, honey, finishing off really long and salty with excellent concentration. Didn’t know they make it with 100% Sauv Blanc! (238 views)
Tasted by PDavisMarble on 8/26/2023 & rated 92 points: Another delightful bottle. A touch more refined than the prior bottle, more delicate, but a still long finish. (564 views)
Tasted by PDavisMarble on 5/30/2023 & rated 94 points: This struck me as a more muscular wine more characteristic of a well-made California SB. Tropical fruits and gardenias burst from the glass, with a palate that followed directly from the nose. At this price point, it's hard ot call it a "summer sipper", but it was a delightful wine to enjoy during these early days of summer. (713 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 3/23/2023 & rated 95 points: Medium expressive mature nose displaying neutral yellow fruit, lemon curd, apple, lanoline, honeysuckle, honey, petrol, sweet spices and mineral. Excellent concentration, generous neutral yellow fruit, rich yet cool and steely, bright acidity, strong mineral, and a medium to long ripe neutral yellow fruit driven finish with a hint of petrol and lanoline at the end. Drinking nicely. (1271 views)
Tasted by astroman on 9/23/2022 & rated 93 points: Honey comb with dense palate yet refreshing. Aromas develop sweet flower after a while. A lovely drink. (1314 views)
Tasted by etyc on 9/23/2022: Decanted for ~2-hrs prior to serving. My last btl of a full-case, and perhaps all in good time too. I had loved this wine very much in its first decade of life, but felt it has gotten all too mature over the last 4-6yrs. Depending on how (what state) one likes their white wine, some may actually prefer it now, being more rounded & complex on the palate. Anyway, this opened with scents of nuts, bits of honey, butterscotch & sherry - all tell-tale notes of a mature wine. Still fresh on the palate, with nice richness/concentration, layers & roundness. Totally yellow-fruit driven, none actually guessed this was a Sauv-Blanc and most if not all veered towards a Chard with some nice age on it. Enjoyable... but as mentioned I'd very much have preferred it in its younger form. (1342 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 12/1/2021 & rated 95 points: Small Bordeaux gathering (Clarity - Vienna, Virginia): Beautiful fully mature nose displaying ripe yellow fruit, dry pineapple, peach, honey, strong lanoline, butterscotch, sweet spices and mineral. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of sweet yellow fruit, dense and rich, bright acidity and mineral, and a seamless long ripe yellow fruit driven finish with butterscotch and lanoline at the end. There is no grassy note. This has developed beautifully. No need to rush but not sure if it will improve. (2133 views)
Tasted by VinhoVerde on 11/13/2021 & rated 95 points: Light gold color. Fragrant perfumed melange of smoke and ripe white and yellow fruits. On the palate, rich texture, supple, and lushly rich fresh fruit. Sufficient acidity for balance. Long finish. Bright fresh enjoyable wine!
Made by Chateau Margaux from an 11 hectare vineyard planted in 100% Sauvignon Blanc. At 15 years on this wine is at its peak, but might hold an additional 3-5 more years. Personally, I wouldn’t chance it. It’s so delicious today! (1498 views)
Tasted by etyc on 4/28/2021: Similarly decanted for ~2-hrs+ prior to serving. This was a wine of tension/electricity as opposed to the '06 SHL Blanc which we had side-side. Notes of honey, cream & tinge of spices wafted from the glass after some air/time, it was on the palate where this confused - where some thought it was Burg-like! Refreshingly young, even more so than a '10 DDC Blanc that was served together too. Yellow-fruited, with limestone & great minerality, this had both power & tensile, but yet elegant/agile across the palate - totally doesn't seem like a wine with 15.1% ABV! In a great place, with an equally great future ahead... (2034 views)
Tasted by gsquireh on 4/17/2021 & rated 97 points: Once opened at dinner, the wine needed a half hour to reveal its full bodied, and delicious mineral infused nature. Fresh and vibrant this is an elegant wine that gives new meaning to sauvignon blanc, not one of my favorite grapes. The aromas keep coming the longer we linger drinking this wine. And this begins to approach the fondness I have for fine white Burgundy from Domaine LeFlaive. Gardenias and luscious lemons, a touch of apple, lovely and lingering. (1557 views)
Tasted by etyc on 6/29/2020: Beautiful nose of ripe pineapples, honey, oak-spices, citrus. Nice concentration w/ a tad of oily texture, this was very fresh/lifted on the palate too, appearing and tasted much younger than a '08 Masion Bellene Meursault Perrieres! This will continue to hold (given the youthful outing) and I expect it to continue improve with age... (2062 views)
Tasted by sdr on 5/13/2020 & rated 93 points: Right in the sweet spot although it’s bone dry. Medium yellow, no gold. Classic Sauvignon Blanc, steely, firm and tense. But not so austere it eschews pleasure. The stylish oak is just barely enough to soften the edges but not enough to intrude. Lots of lemon and grapefruit, just a faint suggestion of grass. Best when well chilled. (1944 views)
Tasted by englishman's claret on 2/3/2020 & rated 86 points: This is a very fleshy, big, ripe expression of Sauvignon blanc framed with a reasonable amount of oak. On first tasting I didn’t find much compelling here and over the following three hours nothing happened to change my mind. A bit fat and moribund, without the requisite energy to make this much more than passable. (2763 views)
Tasted by Biglama on 2/19/2019 & rated 95 points: nog zo fris, prachtige zuren, veel inhoud (2232 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 6/29/2018 & rated 94 points: A rich style white bdx, with heavy tropical fruits, white and yello fruit, oils and rich essence of nectar. Long and unctuous finish. Drinking quite nice today. (2525 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 5/30/2018 & rated 96 points: Jailbreak Brewery restaurant opening SQN wine dinner with Justin Bonner (Jailbreak Brewery, Laurel, MD): Beautifully integrated complex nose displaying ripe yellow fruit, pineapple, apricot, honey, honeysuckle, a hint of truffle, butter scotch, sweet and spicy spices and limestone. Exceptional concentration, dense and oily without being heavy, bright acidity, good mineral presence and a long decadent yellow fruit spicy finish. Once again, a bit decadent and really delicious. (3045 views)
Tasted by PanosKakaviatos on 5/10/2018 & rated 94 points: Château Margaux vertical dinner (Taberna Del Alabardero): I recall trying this en primeur, from barrel, back in the spring of 2007 and feeling let down. The alcohol seemed too much: nearly 15 degrees! The tropical notes also seemed over done. And of course 2006 has a reputation for being a "fat" vintage in Bordeaux. Generally speaking, 2007 and especially 2008 are better for whites. But lo and behold, this has turned out to be quite delicious! In his personal notes to the wine, Paul Pontallier suggests that the terroir may be "getting revenge" on the vagaries of the climate. The richer style is there, and it was the most powerful of the four whites. It showed off very ripe pear as well as white apricot, but a certain serious "minerality" that balanced the density and somewhat thicker texture on the palate. Cellaring conditions impeccable, stressed Kevin Shin, who brought the bottle. (3893 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 5/9/2018 & rated 95 points: Chateau Margaux dinner with Thibault Pontallier (Taberna del Alabardero, Washington D.C.): Fully mature nose displaying ripe yellow fruit, apricot, yellow peach, pineapple, honey, honeysuckle, crème brulee and sweet spices. Excellent concentration, rich and oily, deeply toned ripe yellow fruit, good acidity, not so mineral and a long sweet yellow fruit and sweet spices driven finish. According to Thibault, it was picked really late. Almost 15% alcohol but hard to detect. Really delicious! (3026 views)
Tasted by SLB83 on 3/10/2018 & rated 95 points: This is great stuff. A firm yellow in the glass.
On the nose ripe pineapple, melon skins, which were countered by lovely oak coconut and peach. The nose reminded me of both a Sauternes and a white Burgundy at the same time, how weird is that?!
On the palate melons again, but great oak and stone fruit too. Good acidity and everything is in harmony.
This is not a wine to have on its own, you’ll still love it, but the right food will add another dimension. We had it in a Chinese restaurant (Hunan in Chelsea, London). It went great with scallop and sea bream dishes. The oriental spices and the wine reacted wonderfully to each other and the wine just got better and better.
I have been told this wine should age at least 10 years, but maybe even 15. The 2006 still has plenty of legs left and I’m sure you can still drink this 5 to 7 years from now, probably even longer. (1837 views)
Tasted by etyc on 8/23/2017: '05 & older Pomerol + '10 & older Bordeaux Blanc session.

Some pineapples, coconut, citrus, plus a little bit of heat that could still be discerned at the end... Overall, this didn't come across as impressive as the last few times that I've had it... (2222 views)
Tasted by etyc on 12/27/2016: Still so very good! Served cold, but opened up and evolved in the glass - notes of pineapples, honey, pears, citrus. Oak-treatment was superb, with an oily yet velvety palate and a long finish. Wonderful! (2702 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 4/22/2016 & rated 95 points: During a tasting. Medium yellow. Expressive and highly aromatic nose of citrus, pineapple, vanilla and lots of flowers. Rich but crisp on the palate, unctuous but also fresh. This is really a complete wine that marries freshness and richness. I am not a white wine drinker but this was the WOTN. (3772 views)
Tasted by etyc on 2/29/2016: One of my favourite Bord blancs. This always delivers. Though not as striking as the last time I've had this (if memory serves me right), this was still very good. Tropical fruits - pears, pineapples, teeny tinge of honey, vanillin oak on nose. Creamy feel on the palate, with the tropical fruits following through & culminating in a long finish. So enjoyable! (3372 views)
Tasted by sdr on 9/5/2015 & rated 92 points: Very austere at first, tight and clenched, especially when cold. But eventually it yielded attractive notes of grapefruit pith and lemon. Very focused and pure, it could become even more interesting with additional bottle age. Surprisingly appreciated by all at our Chateau Margaux mini-vertical. (3727 views)
Tasted by etyc on 10/7/2014: Only white of the evening... This was so nice and refreshing, just how I remembered it from the last time I had it 2-3 yrs back. Nose of tropical fruits - pineapple, coconut. Creamy notes developed as it sat in the glass. Despite this being 15-15.1% alcohol, it was perfectly balanced with acidity, oak and minerality. No single element was "protruding". So fresh and so good, with a length that didn't lose out to any of the Reds at all! Hah, wished that this were priced like ANZ SBs, or they taste like this... History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
