Tasted by Bdwyer7 on 4/23/2024 & rated 88 points: Really good QPR. A little dark fruit on the nose. Tannins fully tamed with a little acid taste . This wine is not over the hill yet, but really won’t improve with further aging. Open with your next good Italian dish. (166 views)
Tasted by Kindred-Maddix on 1/1/2023 flawed bottle: Will return to Cal when we return to GV (1177 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 9/28/2022 & rated 92 points: PnD.

Consistent with previous note. Just not as good.

Great fruit. Interesting menthol spearmint note on the nose. (1259 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 9/28/2022 flawed bottle: Corked (1227 views)
Tasted by ikkaariainen on 8/12/2022 & rated 91 points: Highly recommend with the caveat that this is still quite young. A very good QPR wine. Very youthful but now approaching a reasonable drinking window. We popped and poured tableside but if possible I recommend at least a 90-120 minute decant. Drink or hold but at this point heavily leaning on the hold - with proper cellaring this has easily a decade++ to go with further expected improvement (softening, integration). A big cut above their standard chianti. Paired well with a wide selection of meats at a Brazilian style steakhouse. Light purple, clear, good mouth feel, at this point very fruitforward with further softening and integration expected. Medium length aftertaste. Nose bright with kirsch, cardamom and plum. Flavor profile light and fruit dominant at this point with black cherry, black currant, black tea and a hint of anise on the finish. (1281 views)
Tasted by StefanAkiko on 6/5/2022 & rated 90 points: This bugger has calmed down notably since we last had one, some two years ago.
Cherries all the way!
This Nipozzano is a beautiful step up from the standard version of a good straightforward Chianti. Fabulously food-friendly with its bitter tinge at the end-palate.

Quite the bargain! (1456 views)
Tasted by Whine-oh on 6/4/2022 & rated 92 points: Pnp.Sold Chianti, went well with eggplant Parm. Slightly muted nose but opened up with dark cherries n earth. Nice flavor profile consistent with previous bottles. Cherries mushrooms just a nice mouth feel that way well with Italian fare. Always consistent n did not miss tonight. (682 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 2/27/2022 & rated 93 points: PnD let air for 2hrs. A bit muted initially.

Opens up with fresh vibrant nose and palate.

Cherry black raspberry fennel lavender potpourri cola rosemary and porcini on the nose.

Grippy ripe tannins with cherry porcini and herbal cola notes.

Great finish. Great zone with lots of life ahead. (877 views)
Tasted by Wine Poor on 8/30/2021 & rated 89 points: Enjoyed with chicken souvlaki tonight (1619 views)
Tasted by Steve Greenhouse on 8/13/2021: Vino da GDO appartenente alla rarissima denominazione Rùfina.
(1447 views)
Tasted by Stiller on 7/3/2021: Für Ilka & Tom (1357 views)
Tasted by marcellonegro on 6/25/2021 & rated 84 points: Red fruit and black , med+ acidity, med- body. A little unbalaned. Nose of plum. Flavours of tart plum. Good intensity (1185 views)
Tasted by ajbergren on 6/4/2021 & rated 91 points: Nice ruby garnet with medium plus to high optical density and medium specular reflectivity. Aromas are enticing- dusty red berries, plum, and some forest floor with some spied fruit cake and savory tobacco. Good intensity and definitely some complexity.

On the palate, medium in body with fresh acidity and a transparent and mature structure. Tannins are nicely integrated, providing a polished texture that allows the density to spread out. Flavours of tart red fruits and darker plum on the attack, leading off a fruit-intense entry. Loads of concentrated fruits up front. The fruit stays big toward midpalate, where some savoury spices and toffee rise up. Transitions to a cooked spiced fruit finish that also lingers above liquorice, leather, and light earth tones. Overall, excellent intensity (just on this side of modesty) and definitely complex enough to evolve and ponder over time.

This is awesome excellent value, and classic old world wine. While certainly fruit-forward, shows the vineyard and terroir by being wrought in a controlled manner. Balanced right down the middle- fresh and tart, but packed with vivid fruit. At this point, drinking very well, with integrated ripe tannins and still plenty of material to work with- Drink or hold. forest floor nose/mushroom earthy nose with vanilla finish and sweet aftertaste (1099 views)
Tasted by Only Humean on 3/9/2021 & rated 93 points: Really overperformed, even without much decanter time. Soft tannins, lots of fruit, plummy and rich, just about enough acid to hold it together. Very enjoyable.. (1211 views)
Tasted by AlphaMikeFoxtrot on 3/4/2021 & rated 87 points: Red currants, red cherries, cracked cloves, new leather, light roast coffee. A good amount of oak throughout the palate that smooths things out. I found the oak especially intense on the nose. Medium body, medium tannin, good acid. Good pairing with chicken cacciatore (1123 views)
Tasted by vlzat on 2/20/2021 & rated 92 points: Sangiovese, Malvasia Nera, Colorino, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon

Medium body, deep garnet color. Delicate and complex aroma of red and blue fruits, toasty oak, tobacco and leather notes. Black currant and cranberry palate following by long rounding finish of firm tannins as well as soft and balanced juicy acidity. Food friendly, lovely with risotto al pollo. Serve 16ºC - 21ºC. Open one hour ahead. Drink now to end of the decade. (1572 views)
Tasted by Wine Poor on 1/28/2021 & rated 89 points: Enjoyed this with rigatoni and meatballs. (1180 views)
Tasted by Vinnut on 1/11/2021 & rated 89 points: Medium-deep, bright ruby red in color. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & orange peel with overtones of herbs & earthy/dusty notes, some minerals & a touch of vanilla in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe red fruit flavors of cherries & berries with herbs, earthy, minerals & a hint of vanilla. Lingering finish. Quite accessible and drinks well at present with decanting & airing but has the structure & fruit to continue with further development with additional aging. (1169 views)
Tasted by Eantnay on 12/27/2020 & rated 93 points: Possibly the best Nipozzano that I have ever tasted, reminiscent of the vintages of 2004,5 & 6 and a significant improvement over more recent vintages. Deep color, with oak on the nose, velvety on the tongue, with acidity in check and a mouthful of sweet cherries on the finish. (918 views)
Tasted by Patk70 on 12/18/2020 & rated 87 points: good wine not heavy. it should be drunk at the same day. (1017 views)
Tasted by Lyubomir Lefterov on 12/13/2020 & rated 91 points: Decanted and was ready within 30 min. Bright and live, crunchy red fruits with excellent acidity, a touch of spices round things up and that nice 'cleansing the palate' feature of chiantis on the finish. A textbook one. I like these bottles at this stage with abundance of energy and focused fruit, but also I like them after they hit 10y mark or later when tertiary aromas kick in.
Paired with mushroom crostini and pecorino. (997 views)
Tasted by StefanAkiko on 12/11/2020 & rated 88 points: This is too young for my tastebuds.
Angry wine upon opening.
Too much fruit and acidity not yet settled down.

Next btl in 7ish years, 2 more to go. (949 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 9/18/2020 & rated 93 points: PnD let air for 2hrs.

Consistent with previous notes. With more depth and integration with a nice Parmesan note adding complexity. Great freshness and complexity. Shows nicely compared to the Villa Antinori CCR. (1667 views)

2015 Marchesi de' Frescobaldi Chianti Rùfina Nipozzano Riserva

The emblematic wine of Castello Nipozzano, the historic Frescobaldi estate located a few miles north-east of Florence, Nipozzano Riservais symbolic of the Tuscan wine-making tradition and the continuing link with the terroir.

Climatic trend:
Winter 2017 was mild and dry. In spring, the early sprouting of the vines brought the growing season forward. During spring, the arrival of sporadic rains restored the vineyards' water table, guaranteeing a good blooming, still ahead of time with respect to the previous season. The 2017 harvest began at the end of August, after a hot, dry summer that led to the harvesting of well -ripened grapes, qualitatively rich in body and colour.

Technical notes:
Wine Variety: Sangiovese and complementary varieties
Alcohol content: 13,50%

Vinification and ageing:
Harvest took place in the first few days of September. As soon as the grapes were harvested, they were taken to the cellar. Once de-stemmed, the natural fermentation process began in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. The wine remained in the vats to complete maceration. After racking, malolactic fermentation took place in steel as well. At the end of the year, the wine was transferred into barriques, where it was aged for further months. A further period in the bottle brought Nipozzano 2017 to its full expression as a wine with exceptional balance.

Tasting notes:
Nipozzano 2017 conveys the intense, harmonious character of the vintage with personality, translating the heat of the season into the glass. The ruby-red colour is bright and intense. The usual notes of red fruits and citrus are expressed in a seductive combination of elegance and intensity. Tertiary notes due to ageing, such as spices and vanilla, enhance the aromas and balance the tasting experience. The palate is rich, dense and balanced, with a great expression of maturity, polyphenolic elegance and final persistence.

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
