Community Tasting Notes (average 92.4 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 43 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by NiklasT on 3/28/2024 & rated 92 points: Very tasty bottle, in a great sport now with both composure and freshness. Smooth mouthfeel and right amount of acidity to balance the sunny fruit. Do not see much upside, good to go👍 (123 views)
Tasted by whudock on 7/7/2023 & rated 95 points: one of the best I have had. Everything in perfect balance. Lots of time left for those with bottles in the cellar. (404 views)
Tasted by BHRH on 2/1/2023 & rated 92 points: Light gold. Honey and ripe golden delicious aromas with some nutmeg. On the palate - very extracted (wife thought this was Australian) with ripe stone fruits, sweet cashews, warm Hawaiian buns, with a creamy finish electrified by zippy acidity. Clearly has plenty of life ahead, perhaps with room for slight improvement. Super pleasurable and slightly hedonistic! 92-93 (575 views)
Tasted by devraj on 7/9/2022 & rated 91 points: Light-medium yellow in color. Aromas of very ripe pears, golden delicious apples, lemon zest, vanilla and creamy oak on the nose. Rich and unctuous on the palate with buttered, citrus and vanilla poached pears, medium (-) acidity and a long creamy and sweet honey-suckle finish. (753 views)
Tasted by DannyM on 2/19/2022: This wine appeared to be bad. Did not drink. (898 views)
Tasted by dsimmons on 12/12/2021 & rated 94 points: Sitting here drinking the rest of a bottle that I opened three nights ago and it is amazing. Honey, pear and lots of complexity. Really good. (1204 views)
Tasted by spendergast on 11/23/2021 & rated 93 points: A medium bodied Chardonnay with notes of lemon curd, minerals, honey with nice acidity and long satisfying finish. An excellent value. (920 views)
Tasted by devraj on 9/17/2021 & rated 91 points: Light yellow in color. Hint of toasted sesame, ripe orchard fruits, honeysuckle, yellow florals on the nose. Medium-bodied palate shows good depth to the sappy buttered pears, honey, yellow citrus zest, medium acidity and a long toasty finish. Great QPR (943 views)
Tasted by pakabear on 8/8/2021 & rated 93 points: Consistent to my previous notes, really good right now, drink over the next few years. (1175 views)
Tasted by whudock on 4/29/2021 & rated 93 points: consistent with previous bottles. (864 views)
Tasted by dsimmons on 10/21/2020 & rated 93 points: PnP and drank with Costco chicken. delicious as expected. Drink or hold. (1287 views)
Tasted by BGK810 on 10/14/2020 & rated 92 points: At this point, a beautiful golden color. Very ripe pear and bruised, ripe apple flavors, along with a touch of honey. A fair amount of nicely integrated oak and a long finish. Hansel chards and pinots are the best, high quality QPR available. (949 views)
Tasted by jpmo on 8/5/2020 & rated 93 points: Aging very well. It’s one of the great values among CA Chards. Smooth, long lingering flavor with the right amount of acid for drinking by itself and with food. Highly recommended. (1048 views)
Tasted by pakabear on 6/7/2020 & rated 93 points: Consistent with previous notes, very drinkable now as a PnP, I’d drink over the next 3 years. (1199 views)
Tasted by BrunelloBob on 5/4/2020: Over buttery, not a re-buy (1053 views)
Tasted by whudock on 3/15/2020 & rated 93 points: beautiful balance and nuanced refined style of Napa Chardonnay. Butter and oak are present, but not dominant. (1089 views)
Tasted by g-man on 2/19/2020 & rated 92 points: For a sub$40 bottle this fights well above its weight. Stone fruit nose with a rich palate of apple, leeches and tangerine. Not overly sweet but round and giving. Definately Cali but the oak is not overblown. (1230 views)
Tasted by Trydebull on 2/18/2020 & rated 92 points: Guldgult med gröna toner i färgen

Tasted by buymoreredsdrinkmorewhites on 1/5/2020: POPPACORK is right with the burnt/bitter oak comment, also bruised red delicious apples on palate with a touch of butter that blows off but could not get past the "burnt/bitter" wood/oak finish. Cousin Pudge thought is was drinkable. Same notes on 2nd day. Cousin Pudge thought it more bitter 2nd day. (1171 views)
Tasted by dna.oneill on 12/22/2019 & rated 92 points: Beautiful medium gold appearance. Immediately inviting... clean toasty note on the nose, wet stone, some light petrol, fresh lemons, and a touch of tropical - and quite youthful yet... dry, medium plus body and matched acidity. There is a subtle creaminess and elegant green apple core. Super balance - amazed how well the oak integrates without dominating. French oak if I had to guess... will check after tasting. The finish is medium to medium minus in length- but I think that works well with this presentation. You will not tire of this wine. Excellent... (1165 views)
Tasted by Vinnut on 12/9/2019 & rated 93 points: Medium golden yellow in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of apples, peaches & citrus notes of lemons/limes with overtones of floral notes of honeysuckle, minerals, stony, spices & a hint of vanilla/toasty oak in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth texture, ripe flavors of apples, pears & lemons/limes with honey, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present but has the fruit & structure to continue with its development for a few more additional years if cellared properly. (1160 views)
Tasted by poppacork on 10/28/2019 & rated 90 points: The nose presents bruised apple and toast with a hint of citrus. This profile continues onto the creamy full-bodied palate, but there is a bitter oak note which consumes the finish. (1272 views)
Tasted by srh on 10/26/2019: Winebar [1 Rosé, 3 Whites, 8 Reds, & 8 *shared* bottles] from 10/25/19 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Typically, “We hand harvest and manually sort; once in the vineyard and once in the winery. The Chard is whole-cluster pressed into FR oak for fermentation. The primary fermentation lasts 2-3 wks, & the malolactic fermentation can last until early spring of the next yr.” 1,064 cases produced.

N: BUTTER (with hints of popcorn?), lemons WAY underneath?

P: MF, poss Med, body; RNDISH entry with nice, almost swtish OAK atop some frt charmingly counterbalanced by an acidity which subtly keeps things in check into & through the LONG, balanced finish with a currently elegant tangy/swtness. Nonetheless, I'D drink this by mid '20 just to INSURE the oak doesn't go beserk. 14.5% ABV; My VG+/EXC-. 94 pts WA & 91+ Vinous (Galloni). [Check with this vendor if interested in their very COMPETITIVE price.] (1339 views)
Tasted by pakabear on 10/15/2019 & rated 93 points: Lemon tart, yellow apple, gun flint, light butter cream, quince, sea shells, absolute perfect balance with an apparent sweetness due to the ripeness of the fruit. This is really good now as a PnP, terrific QPR at the 30ish price range. (1290 views)
Tasted by SMZ on 7/31/2019 & rated 92 points: Flavorful (1406 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
