Tasted by Euge67 on 4/23/2024 & rated 92 points: Molto buono. Non so perché ma mi aspettavo qualcosa di più. (413 views)
Tasted by Benoit Hardy on 5/8/2023 & rated 92 points: Nose of olive and meaty notes.

Very powerful wine in tasting alone, but which goes well with grilled meats. Bloody and juicy but very intense on the palate with great maturity. Meaty aromas on a good balance. Despite its power it remains pleasant with a rustic side. Very intense peppery finish over a good length.

Very good but I am quite perplexed by the surge due to the popularity of the domain. (1782 views)
Tasted by decaturwinedude on 3/10/2023 & rated 93 points: Best of recent vintages to drink young - IMO- just a touch of spritz. So integrated on the palate, no hard edges. All about the sexy txtures. Delicate. Floral. Olive. The fruit (black cherry?) is supple and clean, yet almost refreshing when couple with the acidity. Pepe wines have an uncanny ability to capture so much freshness. Not sure what else to call it. Drying tannins permeate the finish. As always will live a while. Excellent. (1683 views)
Tasted by BCJ99 on 9/25/2022 & rated 93 points: Needs a lot of air (as expected at this stage). Dark fruit, some violets, black olive, very strong structure, drying tannins and acidity. Very good length. Recommend cellaring this some more (2035 views)
Tasted by jviz on 4/4/2021 & rated 92 points: This was deeply pitched, quite dark, with purple fruits and olive along with a strong note of lacquer. Having never had the bottling, I was struck by its weight (not a small wine in any sense). It should age nicely. (3962 views)
Tasted by Nutty08 on 4/2/2021 & rated 94 points: Pretty awesome, with intense red cherry notes, chalk and a bit of pepper. Palpate is quite structured, fine, but showing impressive depth. (3522 views)
Tasted by Achermann on 2/1/2021 & rated 93 points: Pepe

👃🏻: Ripe berries, wet soil, barnyard, leather, violets, smoke. The animalistic aromas diminished over time.

👅: A hint of VA, finely textured tannins, coffee, a little spice, long finish.

Maybe not for everyone but I really like the style - and will only get better after some years in the cellar. (3167 views)
Tasted by Robmcl920 on 12/9/2020 & rated 91 points: The '17 Pepe is a distinct, very enjoyable wine. It combines a fruit-forward, rich expression that I assume is the vintage speaking, with a rustic, savory style. On the nose, I found aromas of dark red fruit, leather, and spices. On the palate, I found inky, rich dark red fruit, and very prominent, rustic leather notes, along with some olives and spices. The texture was rich, but still fresh and lively with high acidity. I found this wine to be thoroughly enjoyable and drinkable today, but imagine it will hang on for a while. (3543 views)
Tasted by Gunakadeit on 10/18/2020 & rated 94 points: Crushed rock, fresh red cherry juice, lemon zest, black raspberry, boysenberry, wet soil, soft herbal notes, raw meat. Intense acidity, powerful. (2875 views)
Tasted by MQuentel@web.de on 9/29/2020 & rated 93 points: "2017 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Emidio Pepe" - Original, individual character wine, the way I personally love it. The nose is a mixture of sheep's wool and a basket of different fully ripe berries, also some beetroot and fresh humus soil. Smell into the glass and you are fascinated and a little shocked at the same time. A light bizzeling on the palate to start with, which quickly fades away. The intense fruitiness is accompanied by a medium+ acidity that carries the wine and makes it appear fresh. Delightfully juicy, the tannins are round and of medium intensity. The stalks from the nose are not to be found on the palate, rather earthy and mineral notes bring complexity and an animating drinkability. This wine will never become an aristocrat, but as a person I would describe it as cunning farmer and with a very winning character. Matures excellently. 93/100 2020 - 2040 (1878 views)
Tasted by NickNYC on 9/24/2020 & rated 91 points: nice wine, very young. very bright nose, red berries, cherries. palate is bright as well. elegant and underpinned by a nice acidity (maybe too much?). All in all, I believe this wine is too young and I would be delighted to open another bottle in 3 years.
Some of the previous comments refer to the power of the wine (especially for the wines shipped o the US). Mine was bought in Italy and was not on the power side. (1736 views)
Tasted by Gunakadeit on 8/22/2020 & rated 95 points: Wine_I_Love’s note is on point. (1711 views)
Tasted by wineappellation on 7/22/2020 & rated 95 points: Deep ruby purple hue rim. Intense violet flower, ripe boysenberries, plum, tarry minerality, some herbs, farmyard, smoky, grilled meat, leather. Reminiscent of a top qualiy Cote Rotie Syrah!

Full body, bright acidity with grippy tannjns. It gains scale gradually on palate, extrmely focus with layers of flavours emerging such as dried flower, fresh almond, black fruits, sour cherry, minerals, game and earth. So long and beautifully integrated.

Despite its youth, it is a sophisticated and intellectural wine. (1738 views)
Tasted by Poll86 on 6/3/2020: Barnyard, fresh red fruits and VA on the nose. Wonderful fresh acidity and light red fruits but with a good deal of VA. Needs time but still drinks nicely today (1441 views)
Tasted by Kirk Grant on 5/11/2020: There is a definite difference between the bottles sold here in the US & the bottles in Italy. Others have told me, and I really didn't believe them. This is a monster of a wine that's built to age. Where as the bottle I opened in Italy was mostly bright & crunchy red fruits, there was a delicacy & grace in the wine that called to be enjoyed in that moment. What we have here is a beast of a wine, in the best way possible. It is just a hair away from being opaque at the core and the wine is a deep garnet hue. Scents of coffee, cured meats, and leather are the most dominant scents at this time. Now, almost two hours in the decanter and the wine is just starting to open up building depth & complexity. The fine grained tannin is immediately noticeable with notes of cacao, coffee bean, and cassis dominate the palate. This is such a well-structured and unique wine. If you have these, burry them deep in the cellar and I wouldn't open another one until 2030+. I have no clue how long this beautiful beast can last...but my guess is somewhere in the 25-30+ year range with good storage. Bravo...what a lovely adventure I expect is awaiting anyone that has some of this to track over time. (1648 views)
Tasted by chewiness on 1/25/2020: dark purple with magenta legs. cured meats, salami and black berries on the nose, similar to some beaujolais morgons. cured meats and earth in the mouth, with the fruit component relatively subdued. interesting salinity and finely textured tannins lead to a long, coffee-infused finish. you can just sense the power and intensity here - definitely for the long haul.  Tasted by gdoolan on 12/23/2019 & rated 94 points: Infanticide but I love the density and freshness here. Strong meaty core with herbs, complex array of red, purple fruits, and good acidity. Really great acidity, not sure how long this will take to really sing. (1631 views)
Tasted by B Paul on 12/9/2019: Followed over two days. Dark color and a big profile to match, but everything is well-balanced. Lots of fruit with spicy/leathery notes. More open than I expected, but there is a lot of structure here and this will definitely benefit from extended cellaring. (1485 views)
Tasted by NDLanoue on 5/12/2019 & rated 93 points: 12MAY19 at Enoteca Achilli: Wonderful deep ruby almost inky color; noses of dark fruit, black currant, and earthy undertones; strong dark red fruit, earth notes, and hints of leather and clove on the palate; still very young, but should age well; rating on both current profile and expected aging; highly recommend (2133 views)

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

From Wikipedia:
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a type of wine grape as well as a type of red wine made from these same grapes in the Abruzzo region of east-central Italy. The grape is however recommended for 20 of Italy's 95 provinces. Up to 10% Sangiovese is permitted to be added to the blend. It is typically a fruity, dry wine with soft tannins, and as such is often consumed young. If aged by the winery for more than two years, the wine may be labelled "Riserva."

This wine should not be confused with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a Tuscan wine made from Sangiovese and other grapes, but not the Montepulciano variety.

The quality of Montepulciano wines produced in Abruzzo (especially in the provinces of Pescara and Chieti) has been constantly improving in the last ten years, making Abruzzi, once a backwater in winemaking, one of the most interesting locales in the Italian scene.

It is blended with the grape Ciliegolo to make the wine Torgiano. It is also used as the primary grape in Rosso Conero DOCG and is a major part of the Rosso Piceno DOC blend.

Over the past few years the Montepulciano variety has been successfully introduced into Australia.
