Community Tasting Notes (average 91.5 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 41 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by DrELW on 12/22/2023 & rated 93 points: This is a bright, medium, yellow colored wine. It has refreshing acidity, with a medium but ample body. The flavors are very varietal with lemon, floral components, and some minerality. It's an intense wine, but with a mellow, round mouthfeel. The finish is generous and clean. I really like this wine as a nice change from my favorite chardonnays. (672 views)
Tasted by Mmoellern on 11/3/2023 & rated 93 points: YES please! Got the zest of French top shelf whites but lacks the unnecessary “because-we-can” premium you’d have to pay for a Burgundy counterpart. 3/11-2023 (757 views)
Tasted by ulyon on 9/16/2023 & rated 91 points: very oily (982 views)
Tasted by Amr_Gva on 7/3/2023 & rated 88 points: Wine is technically good and has everything you're looking for in a Jura Savagnin, acidity and aroma definition are pretty spot on. But it really lacks intensity, hence is quite hard to pair, while not being great as a standalone wine. Would recommend many, many other Jura savagnin with extra lenght and intensity. (1152 views)
Tasted by alu@ludvigsvensson.com on 4/30/2023 & rated 94 points: BBQ ananas! Citrus and honey! Jummy! (1408 views)
Tasted by martinvolmerpedersen@gmail.com on 4/22/2023 & rated 91 points: Broad and muscular Savagnin, but with sharp acidity and high focus. Lots of character here, very good. Will last for a long time. 91+ (1219 views)
Tasted by WetRock on 1/17/2023: This has a whiff of a note I had thought was brett but am not suspecting is 'mousiness'. I've read this house it cutting back on its SO2 and the last wines I noticed this in were definitely without. Those wines were ruined by it. This wine still does pretty well. The fruit on the palate is strong and pretty enough you can deal with that mouse. That said, I'm apt to drink the other bottle sooner than later in fear that note will bloom. This Savagnin drinks somewhat closer to Chardonnay than many of the non-'ouille' wines do from the region. There is a sweet flavored character that is lovely buffered by the acidity. I enjoy this wine normally so I hope they leave the natural dogma back into history where it belongs. (1557 views)
Tasted by ralaspech on 10/8/2022 & rated 91 points: Nose of minerals, stone fruit, apples and oak. Tastes of apple, apricot and pear fruit. Touch of green. Medium oak. Medium acidity. Med+ body. Nice finish. Probably indistinguishable from New World chardonnay if tasted blind. (1730 views)
Tasted by vintage_whine on 4/19/2022: Hot vintage! Beware! Fruit verges on candied tones, acidity barely holding it together and oak is overbearing giving it extra richness when it could have done better with more restraint. Comes off as being so modern as to be anonymous. (2083 views)
Tasted by guillermo- on 4/9/2022 & rated 93 points: I've never had a Savagnin ouillé before so I did not know exactly what to expect. Wow. This is in fact a dry wine, but someone should tell it that. If a dessert smelled like this, it would have 2000 calories. When fridge cold, the nose starts out somewhat cheesy. As it warms, it becomes almost exactly the smell of Burger King apple pie. You know the one. The kind they've always had. The delicious one, deep fried in the pockets. The sort of beguiling smell cooked up in a corporate lab to hook you forever. The cheesiness remains, but as you swirl and swish and draw air into your mouth it becomes that apple-cinnamon-nutmeg goodness with some cheesecake thrown in for good measure. There is good acidity and it can probably age beautifully. And somehow it remains a dry wine. But as of today, my entire body is screaming at me because it doesn't seem to understand why it's not getting a crunchy, sugary hotness with this experience. (Don't let it get too warm, over 55F or 13C or you lose this in return for something more traditional which is still good but not at the same level of uniqueness.)

I should note:
14.5% ABV
Diam 10 cork (thank you)
Had with white pizza with sausage (a very good pairing)

Edit:
Two nights later it has become pleasant but unremarkable with less apparent acidity and oily oxidized apple notes. I had said it could probably age beautifully but now I'm thinking it's probably best to drink in the next few years (say till 2025). I'm not editing the score. (1868 views)
Tasted by Obi-Wan Cannubi on 12/31/2021 & rated 91 points: Strågul, lett gylden.

Oljete, veldig frisk, veldig god og konsentrert frukt på nesen! Grønne oliven/lake med salt mineralsk preg. Moden sitrus, mandler, snev av hassel.

Smak følger nese. Veldig fin frukt! Frisk syre. Kraft og fylde. Fremdeles mye fersk frukt - denne lagrer godt og bedres nok veldig med drt tertiære over flere år. (2033 views)
Tasted by jmoon on 11/12/2021 & rated 93 points: Drinking perfectly now. Energetic acids, beautiful clean fruit, great fun, punchy and commanding, wonderful wine great value. (2081 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 10/24/2021: Loads of apple notes, along with a light nutiness and a suggestion of Comte cheese. It is full of flavour and character, with nice phenolic grip and a finish that is dry and chewy. (1934 views)
Tasted by Alykhan V on 7/29/2021 & rated 91 points: Poached apples and apricot, herbal notes, orange oil
Saltiness on the palate
Excellent length and lovely acidity
Delicious complex refreshing (1448 views)
Tasted by Weinberg Falls on 7/20/2021 & rated 91 points: I'm a total Savagnin novice so had no idea what to expect but was blown away by the nose of stewed apples, spiced pear with some hazelnuts and beeswax and furniture polish to boot. Palate was caramel, dried apricot and yellow apples but with a lively tart acidity that led into the long spiced pear and white pepper finish. The 14.5% abv here packs a punch but this wine at no stage feels sluggish. Wow - this is really my kind of white wine! Must track down more. (1740 views)
Tasted by Tudz Drkl on 6/7/2021: Werthers originals are a component of this wine. Seriously, it’s a nice wine with a core of fresh sliced round orchard fruits surrounded by interesting volatile aromas. The palate is clean, acidic and fresh. It’s rich but clean and well balanced. Really a nice wine and great QPR (1643 views)
Tasted by robferguson1 on 5/6/2021 & rated 91 points: Nicely developed and improved overnight with a re cork. Takes times to adjust to flavour which is backward but will get there. (1607 views)
Tasted by eschaefer on 4/19/2021 & rated 91 points: Very drinkable and delicious. Tart acidity but great texture and flavor. Well recommended (1739 views)
Tasted by paintinginacave on 4/4/2021 & rated 94 points: Drank over three days. Pale gold with green and silver flecks. Reductive in style with a highly expressive and deeply complex nose of quince, stewed Bramley apples, apple compote, beeswax, spice in the form of white pepper, mineral qualities of gun flint, white smoke, and just the faintest hint of petroleum starting to reveal itself by the third day. There’s great energy and tension throughout as the wine glides across the palate starting with tart autumnal orchard fruit - reaffirming the quince and Bramley apples - and moves to a deeper, denser, highly concentrated mid palate with a riper, richer fruit profile and a texture that resembles that of cold butter. This is a seriously impressive offering from D’angerville. (1498 views)
Tasted by dream on 12/6/2020 & rated 91 points: Really a lovely fresh and concentrated white with excellent sucrocity to go along with the crisp acids and delicious flavors of lemons and chalky minerals. The finish is quite powerful but also complex with a lovely minty edge and while I love this now, it should age quite well in the medium-term. 91+ (1884 views)
Tasted by nywine68 on 12/5/2020 & rated 92 points: Delicious and a phenomenal value. Great acidity and salinity. Fresh and vibrant with a round body. Green apples, almonds and some stone fruit. (1484 views)
Tasted by Tudz Drkl on 12/4/2020 & rated 92 points: color is gold, on the nose bruised apple, wild herbs, light smoke, beeswax, racy acidity, ends on a high note, juicy lemon, gren apple, chalky texture, long finish (1344 views)
Tasted by Loekkeboe on 11/1/2020 & rated 92 points: Delicious white with fresh citrusy acidity. Juicy. Liked it. (1415 views)
Tasted by YoRi on 9/28/2020 & rated 91 points: Robe doré, bonne densité.
(1401 views)
Tasted by dream on 8/31/2020 & rated 92 points: A delicious white with zippy acidity and fresh flavors of apple and citrus fruit. Beautifully concentrated and complex on the long, spice-driven finish with superb intensity and great mineral thrust. It all seems to come together for d'Angerville in this vintage and this wine is a huge success and very much a crowd-pleaser. Lifted and precise. (1430 views)

Jura

A petite and relatively obscure wine region in eastern France, between Burgundy and the Swiss border. Its geographical isolation has helped it to remain a rare bastion of traditional winemaking techniques, and today it produces some of the most distinctive wines in the world. Reds from the Jura are often light-bodied, earthy, berried, and reminiscent of the village wines of Burgundy (though here they are made of local grapes like Poulsard and Trousseau). While Chardonnay features widely, the true specialty of the region is the Vin Jaune (“yellow wine”) made from the white Savagnin grape. Cloudy, difficult Vin Jaune is made only in the best vintages, and must be aged for at least six years before being released. As it ages under a layer of yeast, known locally as “voile,” the wine slowly oxidizes, leading to complex aromas and flavors that range from walnut skin to sultana to spices and truffles. Famously long lived it is always sold in dumpy 62 cl bottle - the wine lost in production having been taken by les anges.
