Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.8 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 20 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by boillatm on 4/14/2024 & rated 92 points: My third Produttori Riserva after two bottles from the 1990 vintage so it was quite a contrast.
Full-bodied, raspberries, dark berries, high acidity, it actually reminded me of a barbera. Two more bottles, the next one in five years if I am still around. (744 views)
Tasted by BrionHammond on 4/8/2024 & rated 92 points: So tannic at the start but after a double decant and 1 hour in the bottle again its much better (756 views)
Tasted by Bolognese Diner on 10/7/2023 & rated 93 points: Ruby red with good intensity and garnet reflections. The nose is intense and moderately complex, with notes ranging from tea leaves to cedar, passing through sage and cherry. The palate's initial impression is generous, warm, and quite soft, appropriately tannic and fresh, a rustic, true and genuine Barbaresco in which the original terroir clearly shines through. It is balanced and elegant, with good persistence. (1339 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 7/23/2023 & rated 91 points: I decanted this for several hours ahead of time. This was heady and perfumed when I got to it with savory notes, licorice, sour red cherries, rose petals, raspberries, herbs, crushed rocks, violets, and some sweet tobacco notes. The Medium/full bodied feel has some youth, but in a light-heavyweight way along with tart, high acidity and silky, high tannins. The tannins are starting to resolve at this point and the feel is becoming more complete. This is a lovely Produttori Riserva that shows a more brawny side. (1110 views)
Tasted by Ms. Bubblehead on 6/20/2023 & rated 91 points: 9 bottle box set - all blind

Tannnic. Mineral. Nice polish. Way better than expected (1892 views)
Tasted by roboto on 6/19/2023 & rated 91 points: In fear of balsamic festival arriving in these bottles I opened one to check out the music. I shouldn't have worried that much. Rational me know that the tannins are here to save the day, but that's not why we are here is it? The perfume took some time, (read air in zalto burg glasses) to come around, and I always have to remind myself that they shine at a slightly below cellartemp to get that beautiful red fruit singing. This is not Asili vibrancy nor is it Montestefano power, this sits somewhere inbetween those CRUS, and it is also a little less complex in my book, just a tad. It is still a gorgeous wine, and as always makes this cooparative of producers a bargain in the grand scheme of everything else out there. There is such a consistency to these wines which is perhaps more impressive than its individual wines. Having visited them several times, my brain just goes back there at every tasting or sniff. It is all there, rose, tar, liquorice, anis, black winegums, cherrys, this one has stronger herbal touch than the others, dare I say chartreuse, ..second sniff, no it IS chartreuse:). Fruit is light on its feet in the mouth, tannins are there but at 9 years really ok, acidic ending is gorgeous and a glorius ending to this wine. Where it falls short is the length is not there, by the standard of its peers in the range. it feels shorter and less complex but hats off here. I would not save this longer, but maybe there is a secret Chambolle-like beauty coming out of this one in ten more years, ....who dares wins! (1578 views)
Tasted by Brian of Mull on 5/25/2023 & rated 90 points: Opened for 30 minutes. Color is brick/ruby red. On the nose: Cherry, rose and forest floor funk. On the palate: Sour Cherry, rose, red berries, very noticeable tannins. Finish on the short side. Solid but I expected better. (1629 views)
Tasted by acyso on 2/6/2022 & rated 90 points: Vinetasters: 2013 Produttori horizontal et al. (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. Relatively mute nose. Good mix of red and black fruit but not much else really discernible here right now. High tannins; this is a relatively more structural wine. The finish shows a little funky with some earthiness, leading me to guess that this was Muncagota (it's one of the few crus that I tend to be able to guess at all). (3253 views)
Tasted by Shloly on 11/23/2021 & rated 90 points: The wine is clear, with medium garnet color, and watery rims.
On the noes the wine is clean, with medium plus aromas of plums, cherries, sour cherries, dried red fruits, dried fig, mineral notes, earthiness notes, gravel.
On the palate the wine is dry, with medium plus acidity, medium plus ripe green tannins, medium alcohol, medium body, medium plus flavors of olives, sour cherries, mushrooms, fresh Mediterranean herbs and spices.
The wine is of a very good quality, due to its long finish, complexity and depth. It is quite pronounce at time of tasting, but showing great aging potential ahead of it. (1803 views)
Tasted by kostaslonis on 11/16/2021: Tasting Ground official tasting, 2014 Produtorri del Barbaresco Riserva cru (Oinoscent): The wine shows a deeper floral character, ripe red fruit, a bit vegetal that adds freshness, shows depth and complexity.
In the palate, the wine shows the same style, deep and dense, fruit core, almost black fruit, a bit earthy, herbal, a touch of oak and spice, medium body, medium to long acidity, long finish (1790 views)
Tasted by Slaz on 8/2/2021 & rated 92 points: Continues to be very backwards, even with decanting. (2584 views)
Tasted by Slaz on 3/6/2021 & rated 92 points: Definitely decant if opening soon. (2402 views)
Tasted by CompleterZRH on 3/14/2020 & rated 89 points: Intense, rough texture, high acidity, interesting notes of just-ripe cherries, liquorice, some herbal tones. Young and a bit wild, promising for the years to come. (2727 views)
Tasted by AudunG on 9/1/2019 & rated 88 points: Aromas of leather and some smoke. Quite rustique. (2790 views)
Tasted by oropeza on 8/10/2019: Distinctly Barbarseco: Red fruit flowing straight into earth, cedar and coffee in the core with decent acidity and chew. Higher notes come out on subsequent passes: mint. (2672 views)
Tasted by benjamin96 on 6/7/2019 & rated 90 points: Wine bar.
Cerise et un peu de mure, tannins très présent, asséchant. Laissez attendre! (2622 views)
Tasted by HowardNZ on 7/16/2016: 2016 Tasting at Produttori del Barbaresco with Aldo Vacca: We jumped across to taste a 2014 with Aldo making the point that in his view 2014 is just as good as 2013 in Barbaresco ("with more of a floral character"). Here however the bouquet and palate were pretty closed showing red fruit, savoury and forest floor elements, with earth and a little espresso. Slightly medicinal but with good volume and acids. Hard to draw any conclusion from this taste ... (5486 views)

Produttori del Barbaresco

O ok just

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
