Community Tasting Notes (average 90.7 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 52 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by BannerZ on 4/13/2024 & rated 92 points: Very well integrated at this point, freshness on the nose - smooth red and dark berries on the lips. Good length, bit of tannins and touch of acidity towards the end. Wish I had bought more of this year! (301 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 9/3/2023 & rated 89 points: Nose is heavy on red fruit. As always, easy to drink, if not overly complex; nonetheless, enjoyable, and a great QPR. (1139 views)
Tasted by LCHammer on 8/28/2023 & rated 92 points: This is a wonderful wine and exceptional QPR. Very good on day 1 but a little short on the finish and tannins that were a bit tight. Day 2 was great. Fruit integrated and tannins smoothed out to form a great finish. I've paid a lot more and gotten a lot less. Highly recommended at the price point. (1015 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 6/16/2023 & rated 92 points: 2nd bottle of 4. Dark purple color. This time around there were some eucalyptus notes mixed in with the dark fruits. Firm tannins. I’ll hold off on opening my other bottles for a while. 92 points again. (1219 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 5/21/2023 & rated 89 points: Pop and pour. Easy and approachable right out of the bottle, there's not much on the nose, but the wine is driven by dark red fruit with a bit of acid/tannin as it crosses the palate.

Not particularly heavy or complex, but for the price often found on LastBottle or when the supermarket has it on deep sale, this probably replaces Faust as my ideal pool party wine. (1354 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 3/4/2023 & rated 92 points: 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, and 1% Mission from Napa Valley. 40% new French oak. We visited this estate in 1998. Blackish red color. Jammy wine with concentrated black and red fruit notes together with cherry, cedar and leather. Full bodied and tannic. Long finish which coats the mouth. No rush to drink. 92 points. (1577 views)
Tasted by Wild Boar on 3/2/2023 & rated 90 points: Nothing unkind about this wine. Dark fruit, anise, and ash in the nose; fruit follows in the mouth which is remarkably soft and juicy, tannins are there, but not dominant and just a touch of acidity. Long finish that hangs around. Hard to believe it will improve and an incredible value at under $30. (1096 views)
Tasted by dfusina on 2/27/2023 & rated 91 points: At its peak. Much more balanced than 2 years ago. Excellent. (1044 views)
Tasted by Scottwhipp on 2/24/2023 & rated 91 points: Soft mouthfeel. Light and bright on the palate with a burst of vanilla, red currant and plum on the front and mid palate followed by brambly blackberry on the back palate followed by a sage blackberry finish with mild fine grained tannins. Bravo. Very good and a great value at $30! (844 views)
Tasted by Texasortho on 2/17/2023 & rated 90 points: Would buy it again. Great bargain for a Napa Cab (798 views)
Tasted by Rmerlin on 2/10/2023: Needs more age/time but otherwise a nice cab (607 views)
Tasted by BannerZ on 2/5/2023 & rated 91 points: Smooth well integrated cali cab. Medium finish, light tannins. Notes of vanilla, caramel, touch of oak and red berries carry through. (686 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 10/7/2022 & rated 90 points: Might be the best $29 bottle I've ever purchased. Coravin'd several glasses; while they're not particularly complex, there's plenty of dark fruit, modest layering and a brief 5-10 sec mid palate finish. Very easy drinker on its own or with tonites smoked pork tenderloin and roasted veggies.

Update: this wine's semi composite cork is fabricated from ground up cork pieces and was a struggle for the coravin needle. This also doesn't reseal as well as a traditional Coravin'd cork, which had the remaining half bottle 3 deteriorate far more than a wine Coravan'd with a traditional cork.

While drinkable, this came across as more of a burgundy with little tannin or structure than what I enjoyed night one. (1433 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 3/12/2022 & rated 89 points: Nose is non descript. Ripe, hot berry flavors with just enough smooth tannins to provide interest, but there’s obviously little longevity to this wine. Nonetheless this still dramatically outperforms it’s price. (2106 views)
Tasted by jhanne8 on 2/11/2022 & rated 90 points: Fruit bomb but enjoyable (2073 views)
Tasted by cdebeau on 1/8/2022 & rated 93 points: Smooth as silk, blueberries with chocolate on the finish (2296 views)
Tasted by dfusina on 12/26/2021 & rated 90 points: Improving. (2339 views)
Tasted by dberan on 12/21/2021 & rated 90 points: Solid. Not over powering, ready now. Agree on other's fruit comments.... really good QPR (1880 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 12/20/2021 & rated 90 points: Coravin’d a glass 2 night ago with pnp for the balance tonight. Nice dark fruit with more than enough structure to provide depth and make this interesting; frankly I find this far more enjoyable than the Caymus or Faust I’ve had recently.

Outperforms it’s $29 price from Last Bottle (1359 views)

Tasted by Wine Lover 1964 on 9/6/2021 & rated 92 points: Nice with steak. Enjoyed after 2 hour decant. (1702 views)
Tasted by Joelene on 7/13/2021 & rated 91 points: Another solid Buena Vista effort. More approachable right now than the 2018 and perhaps more blue fruit but less structured than the 2016. Delicious right now, better with a 2-3 hour decant. Great QPR at $30 91+ (1992 views)
Tasted by Jobu on 4/17/2021 & rated 92 points: Juicy, ripe, blackberry and currant fruit, with some anise on the finish. Oak is there from start to end, but it’s well integrated & frames the fruit nicely. Not one to cellar but will drink well over the next 3-4 years. (2616 views)
Tasted by 1/2 Full on 12/6/2020: This stuff is good right now with only a little air (2999 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
