Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 96 pts. and median of 96 pts. in 2 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Rbhan12 on 4/26/2024 & rated 94 points: This was phenomenal. Needs air to come together and probably 10 years to be at peak. Gorgeous flinty minerals and petrol on the nose. Palate takes time to come alive but once it does it is really quite something. Liquid minerals, white fruit, light citrus. Mineral finish.

93-94 this is very good. (78 views)
Tasted by Rote Kappelle on 1/21/2022 & rated 98 points: I don't really care about cars, I hate soccer/football (if some swine has my ball I want to grab them and the ball and smash them. I want to run with the ball in my hands or under my arm. I want to trample the brave and hurdle the dead - rugby is my thing), I find opera tedious, but I love German Riesling. If I put it with Baader Meinhof, Tangerine Dream, Scorpions, Beethoven, Marx and Engels, Gunther Grass, Heinrich Boll, Heinrich Graf Einsiedel and Rammstein then I am in heaven. This would be a heaven reserved for atheists and it would be much more enjoyable than the milk bread served up to the gullible.

I suppose that is a long winded way of saying that I am partial to German Riesling and I am really taken by this maker's wines. This one, in particular, is memorable and sends shivers down my spine.

Under the loathsome and only partially effective cork (why, oh why?), this note is made after about 2 hours open, no decant of course (this would be against the spirit of dialectical materialism).

The wine kicks off with the usual white gold colour, excellent clarity and very vibrant. Zing zing.

It is on the nose that the knee tremblers begin. There is something pungent and female about this that would probably be banned on obscenity grounds in many countries. Yes there is tropical fruit, melon and a hint of lemon rind but there is this really deep fecund element to it all. I would follow this woman to the ends of the earth.

The palate delivers almost mouthwatering purity. I am reminded in sensation of the white peaches I grow. If you bite into one straight off the tree when fully ripe you get this explosion of life force and the most intense combination of sweetness and tartness in counterpoint. Not many wines can do this. I can talk about intensity and length of finish and about an intriguing texture but it is the sensation that simply puts this on a different level.

The sad truth is that the vast, sweating, virus laden heaving filth of humanity won't get this wine. They like autotune, Netflix, living in the 'burbs and the various props of the anaesthetised life. Good. There aren't enough bottles made to have to share with the genetic excess. Don't you buy any either - hands off, she's mine. (1762 views)

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)
