Community Tasting Notes (average 90.2 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 48 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by coremill on 6/21/2020 & rated 91 points: Excellent showing. Ripe green fruit, good minerality, plenty of concentration and length. Certainly drinks well now but doesn't taste mature. (1386 views)
Tasted by aaacerbic on 5/1/2020: In great shape. Not even a hint of oxidation at this stage. Still quite mineral. Fruit was there but tart. Some florality. A linear, acid-driven wine to be sure. Did take a little time to fully open up but definitely singing. Excited to try these in a couple more years. (1233 views)
Tasted by Dancing with bottles on 5/15/2016 & rated 90 points: Pale colour.
Fullbodied, structured, elegant and Long. Perfect - almost great - Riesling after more than eight years of aging.

Very versatile in food pairing: Mussels as well as modern oder traditional and rather rustic food from Pork or Calf (like Baeckeofa (Backeskrumbeere), Choucroute Garni (Sauerkraut mit Schlachtplatte), Pfälzer Läberworschd (Pate de campagne a la palatinat), Saumagen (stuffed pork stomach a la palatinat), Tafelspitz, Wiener Schnitzel, Züricher Kalbsgeschnetzeltes, gebratene Maultaschen (fried "big Tortellini" with a very savoury meat, sausage, leak and spinach filling) etc. (3003 views)
Tasted by abh on 1/24/2016: Wow this is in great shape. Incredibly direct, laser-like acidity and a great balance between complex mature notes and youthful energy. Initially seems extremely concentrated but the finish falls off a bit, I guess this is a factor of young vines. Makes me very very optimistic for the ageing of the GG wines. (3161 views)
Tasted by grenache lover on 5/15/2015 & rated 91 points: Is this a bit tired? Or just needed some more time to open up? I will never know it because we drank the wine in less than 45 minutes with a good plate of charcuterie. Last glass was the best one so I think that maybe it just needs air. There is some reduction on the nose, which then opens to yellow fruit and some minty notes. On the mouth the balance is great, with sweetness, acidity, good width and length. Maybe it lacks a bit of complexity, but it is only Von der Fels after all. (3629 views)
Tasted by kernel on 10/2/2013 & rated 91 points: great value entry riesling. still fresh & so moorish. (3685 views)
Tasted by boodra on 6/11/2013 & rated 93 points: Wauv - Beatiful just now. still seems young and fruity, but incredible layors of different aromatics. Went down in no time (4875 views)
Tasted by Muvrino on 12/13/2012 & rated 91 points: Even better on 2nd day, crisp and classy, lasting forever... was drunk on its own. (2798 views)
Tasted by Finare Vinare on 2/25/2012 & rated 90 points: Needs a short turn in the carafe to open up. Then we get some absolutely fabulous pineapple aromas and nicely developed mineral notes. Palatewise this is super-harmonious, with a fresh yet smooth acidity, perky little love-bites in the finish and a long, refreshing, salty mineral aftertaste. So drinkable, pure lip-smacking pleasure - but maybe more fantastic than great, if you see what we mean ;-) "À point" at the moment, no need to wait any longer. Go get your remaining bottles! (3573 views)
Tasted by Arinbraghe on 2/2/2011 & rated 92 points: Ohh, this has entered a really good phase right now. I like Loirefan's reviews, and I'm not sure whether bottle variation might be at play, but whatever disjointedness he/she detected is absolutely not evident here. I will say that this is easily the best (and unfortunately the last) of four bottles I've drunk over the past year and a half, showing both an almost Trimbachian richness and gravitas as well as classic Germanic precision and transparency. What's remarkable here right now is the combination of both fruit and spice elements, served up on a bed of bristling minerality. I don't wish to say this encapsulates the wine, but it's as though someone threw pineapple, lime, and gray slate into the mother of all Cuisinarts, hit 'Puree,' and then liberally dusted the resulting fruit-rock shake with cinnamon. The longer the bottle's open the more that cinnamon and nutmeg note comes to the fore, and the minerality becomes more rather than less palpable as the intensity of the yellow fruit flavors morphs into a savory lemon icing component. Drank with a moderately spiced green shrimp curry, which has to be one of the best food/wine combinations I've had in a while. A lovely wine to spend time with as we watched Chicago grind to a halt under twenty inches of snow. Wish I had six more of these. (4162 views)
Tasted by wurzel68 on 1/30/2011 & rated 91 points: Unverändert ein frischer, leckerer Essensbegleiter mit enorm gutem PLV! (3148 views)
Tasted by LoireFan on 6/16/2010 & rated 89 points: Components are appealing but this isn't shining right now. (3555 views)
Tasted by boodra on 5/25/2010 & rated 91 points: Just outright good now. Sexy fruit wich gains a little fatnes and sweetnes in the glas. But still a cool refreshing drink wich leaves you thirsting for more. Best on day one. Lost a little fruit after two days in the fridge. Got a little more steely and mineral, but I preferede the fruit. (3499 views)
Tasted by Brnshj22 on 4/10/2010 & rated 90 points: Tasty as always. A day in the fridge prior to consumption is necessary to get your money's worth. (3524 views)
Tasted by wurzel68 on 3/13/2010 & rated 91 points: Herrlich fruchtige Nase nach reifen Äpfeln, Grapefruit, exotischen Früchten und Beeren; am Gaumen viel Schmelz, mittlere Säurestruktur, gute Mischung aus Frucht und Mineralität, sehr frisch, langer, spannender Abgang! (3538 views)
Tasted by boodra on 2/28/2010 & rated 91 points: aromatic. Cool citrus fruit, green apples and complex mineral flavours. Great stuff (3516 views)
Tasted by Brnshj22 on 2/28/2010 & rated 90 points: Oh so wonderful. (3617 views)
Tasted by benjordan on 1/4/2010: I think I like the 2008 better. This may have more weight, but the RS sticks out a bit and hides the cut of the acid. I'll try and let the other two bottles age some of that sugar away. (3819 views)
Tasted by CSteefel on 12/23/2009 & rated 91 points: A limpid gold in color, with brooding aromas of wet slate and bitter citrus suggesting rainy, autumnal landscapes touched by more distant floral notes wafting in from sunnier climes. On entry this really covers the palate horizontally, with the slate and bitter citrus aromas becoming more visceral as they are released inside the mouth. The building acidity here energizes the mid-palate as faint tropical fruit notes are brought into focus on the finish. Holy Moly, better back the truck up for this one. A beauty… (3849 views)
Tasted by ELH on 12/20/2009 & rated 89 points: Consumed as aperitif. Lovely taste of Riesling grape skin. Just to the dry side of sweet. (1409 views)
Tasted by grenache lover on 10/10/2009 & rated 92 points: Consumida con Isabel y Adolfo en casa. Se llevaron lo que sobró. (4186 views)
Tasted by Biglama on 7/8/2009 & rated 90 points: strakke mooie droge riesling met veel typische kenmerken, floraal en mineraal, heel fris en mooi drinkbaar (4294 views)
Tasted by boodra on 6/24/2009 & rated 90 points: Drank this bottle over several days. Opened it saturday and finished it wednesday and it showed no signs of loosing pace - in fact it becamed slightly more complex as the days went. It started of with notes citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit and ended op with more minerality. Great bottle of Riesling with some - if not several - good years in front of it. Good QPR. about 23$. (4265 views)
Tasted by ikileo on 6/7/2009: Weingut Keller Tasting (MAGMA German Restaurant): Popped & Poured

Colour: Light straw yellow with an ever so slight greenish tinge

Nose: Lime & sweaty sock but tight nose, will probably be better if allowed the breathe; but so far it was a little 'meh' for me

Taste: Decent acid, great heat control, mineral driven with some grapefruit. Could have used slighly more acid as the fruit felt a little 'soft' to me (4799 views)
Tasted by Biglama on 4/22/2009 & rated 89 points: licht geel, frisse fruitige neus, ook bloemig, floraal, smaak is fris met behoorlijke zuren, mineraliteit, komt nog jong over (4455 views)

Rockss and Fruit (6/27/2008)
(Keller Von der Fels) Just a brilliant wine. It is young vine fruit from Hubacker and Kirchspiel and is wonderful. Mineral, cereal-like nose with very pure floral aspects. Also a hint of pine resin. High-tones aromatics that just penetrated the inner reaches of your nostrils. The palate was very concentrated, pure and clean with great fruit and powdery tannin. I remember drinking the '01 of this for $15.00. Oh how things have changed.

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)
