Tasted by jmcelroy on 3/8/2020 & rated 93 points: Lovely well aged Zinfandel. (988 views)
Tasted by timewithwine on 1/23/2014: A deep, deep burgundy greets the eye. The nose awakens to cranberry, rhubarb, Draper Perfume, graham cracker, earth and mineral. This is one broad ranging Zin bouquet, and enticingly so. The palate shows distinct caramel, plum, cranberry, roasted tomato, cinnamon ... each time, each sip seemed to draw a new facet of the profile. The mouthfeel is smooth and silky with integrated tannins. Simply delicious. This still pours fairly clean with very little sediment. 14.5% alc. With venison (and other) sausages. The wine raises the venison sausage to a whole, new level. An excellent wine: Recommended. (610 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 2/25/2013 & rated 78 points: Sadly, this bottle was past prime! Too sweet (like a bad desert wine). (4213 views)
Tasted by dmitchell4 on 8/14/2011 & rated 92 points: Very mellow and smooth. All the edges are gone. Probably past it's peek. Still plenty of fruit. (5150 views)
Tasted by rfrenkel on 7/17/2011 & rated 93 points: This may be past peak, but still held deep and rich fruit flavor. Dark plum/brown color. Cork was toast, so filtered and decanted about an hour. Wish I had more! (5114 views)
Tasted by xcblazer10 on 1/26/2011 & rated 93 points: Paired great with authentic somewhat spicy mexican food. Big wine. (5281 views)
Tasted by dlynch on 1/24/2011: Still rich and fruit forward (4757 views)
Tasted by mavericks on 8/20/2010: Dinner with Valerie
This might be a little past its prime but it was still very good.
Overall - a little light up front then good a spicy with a dark red fruit finish
Color – Dark plum and heading to brown
Appearance – clear and dark
Aroma – mineral, dark red fruit, light pepper
Body – heavy
Taste – medium acid and great spice, maybe more than pepper
Textures – smooth
Finish - a bit abrupt with stronger acid (2390 views)
Tasted by TexasBob on 5/7/2010 & rated 87 points: Dark garnet red. Sweet confit, mincemeat, and overripe black plums on the nose with a touch of peppery spice. Notes of mulberry, black plum, notable Asian spice, and blackberry with a touch of vanilla and pepper. Rare steak notes on the finish. Solid structure and mouth-feel. This wine needs about an hour to fully open up. Quite pleasant. (2120 views)
Tasted by tarheel17 on 12/29/2009: A little flatter than the bottle a few weeks ago, the fruit was still pleasant and well-balanced with acid & tannin. Not as smooth as I hoped or expected, tho. Chris really enjoyed. (2292 views)
Tasted by tarheel17 on 12/17/2009: didn't take good notes, but on day one, this was perfect drinking, with none of the candied cinnamon from the 2005. Second night it has become a bit flatter, almost stale. note for next bottle: finish in one sitting. (2284 views)
Tasted by dmitchell4 on 11/2/2008 & rated 90 points: Drinking beautifully now. Fully bodied balanced zin. (2431 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 6/19/2008 & rated 88 points: zins and BBQ(with one outsider) (Smoque BBQ, chicago): nose: nice dark and spicy nose of asian spice, dark cherry, raisins, and bits of chocolate

taste: decent feel with asian spice, dark cherry, and some raisin notes

overall: a very nice zin with a good full feel. Doesn't really jump out at you nor does it grab you. All of the flavors are in place with a nice spicy attack and raisiny finish (3010 views)
Tasted by JBVino on 5/2/2008: better than previous bottle that seemed stewed...nevertheless only modestly interesting; significantly outperformed by 01 Ridge Sonoma Station (2549 views)
Tasted by Bogu on 11/5/2007: Very well balanced. Got better the longer it sat open, but we didn't let it sit open that long before it was gone. (2914 views)
Tasted by inkeyofc on 7/26/2007 & rated 86 points: A big wine. I get some pepper, blackberry and currant. (2854 views)
Tasted by JBVino on 7/5/2007: immediately on the nose smelled fortified or portish...not a positive in my book. The palate also had this fortified flavor...did not have over the top alcohol flavors. Purchased from winery and stored properly so unlikely damaged from storage. (2924 views)
Tasted by mitchmurr on 4/16/2007: WS 88 (3145 views)
Tasted by Dan M on 1/12/2007: Bright zinberry fruit, cherries, spice, briar and only a little jamminess. A nice bit of zippy acidity on the midpalate and finish keeps it from being flabby. While still a pretty big zin, not as in your face as some other Ridge Paso Robles I have had. Darn good and in no danger of going over the hill but I do not seeing it as improving a whole lot. I have little experience drinking this bottling with any significant age on it, however. (3240 views)
Tasted by jbposell on 6/18/2006 & rated 86 points: Past its prime... (3685 views)
Tasted by MediumMac on 2/21/2006 & rated 93 points: Aroma of red rasberrys, strawberry, lilacs and the Ridge "purfume". Palate of Red rasberries, smooth spice, slight oak (well intigrated) and mint. Mouthfeel is very nice and smooth. Finish is medium to long, evenly balanced red berry, oak, grass and herbs. Probably at its peak now. was at its best after about 30-60 minutes of decanting. (3772 views)
Tasted by SacredCow on 4/25/2003 & rated 83 points: This was tasted at a retailer-held Ridge tasting on 4/25/03 in Sacromento.

This was the seventh wine tasted. I cannot find any notes on this one. It was definitely a step down from the LS though, about on par with the Sonoma Station. Which would put it in the 86 point range. (3692 views)

The other Ridge winery facilities are at Lytton Springs in the Dry Creek Valley AVA of Sonoma County.

Ridge Zinfandel Paso Robles

(Spring 2012 Ridge Wine Club notes)

Benito Dusi Ranch. The 1967 vintage was our first wine from this vineyard. It is planted entirely to zinfandel, unusual in a vineyard more than 80 years old.

Purchased by Sylvester and Catarina Dusi in 1924, the property has been farmed since the 1940s by their son Benito, the owner.

Wines from this location consistently show deep, juicy bramble fruit on the palate, along with notes of black cherry, gravelly earth, and rich chocolate.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
