Tasted by thewiz on 3/21/2023 & rated 92 points: (Disgorged in February 2010, 30% Pinot Noir and 70% Chardonnay, dosage 8 gr/L)
Gentle pressure on the lengthy cork and showing a golden yellow colour with very fine bubbles rising slowly in the glass showing a mature nose with red apples, milk chocolate and minerals at first and opening up with lime citrus flowers in a very pleasant way. Nice and smooth on the palate showing yellow plums and butter. Some dried lime zest on the finish and with a pleasant minerals touch leaving a saltiness on the lips.

Tasted by biggie on 10/20/2022 & rated 95 points: Fruit Day - gold in the glass. Plenty of spritz left. Minuscule bubble in a continuous stream. Nose is complex and wonderful - brioche, toast, apple (just slightly baked) along with a “je ne sais quoi” element that I can’t quite describe. Nuts, toast, butter, apple, pear, pastry on the palate with a very long finish of brioche and apple. Too enjoyable to spend much time writing a note. (810 views)
Tasted by biggie on 4/27/2022 & rated 91 points: Leaf Day - Pale gold into the glass - virtually no bubbles/mousse but lots of bubble on the tongue. Nose of caramel, baked apple, citrus and chalk. Rich and unctuous on the palate with a long finish. This one should be enjoyed in the near term but it was indeed delicious. (1030 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 2/25/2022: Mature at peak maybe slightly past. Fruit was pleasant and the finish reasonably long. (1215 views)
Tasted by TXRhoneRanger on 11/29/2020 & rated 95 points: Wine of the Night for Thanksgiving 2020. Seriously complete at this stage. What a joy to drink. Baked apple, fading citrus, rainier cherry, biscuit, and sweet peach. Great roundness, mouthfeel. Dry as a bone. Long finish. No need to age it longer. I found it to be delicious right now. Generous mousse, great perlage. Served with Thanksgiving truffle cheese course. Spot on. (1558 views)
Tasted by acyso on 6/2/2019 & rated 90 points: Vinetasters: Special Clubs (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. There's a little bit of coconut on the nose here. This is clearly something with some serious age on it. Biscuity, sweet, and fairly complex. There's some brown elements on the back end as well, with some spice, nuts, and sweet biscuity flavours. I do wish that this had a little more breadth on the palate, but it is a fantastic wine nonetheless, and fully resolved for drinking now. My 5th, group's 4th. (2620 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 12/27/2016 & rated 93 points: Opened by Eyesintime. Last had this in 2013. We drank this alongside the 2008 Chiquet Special Club. Medium yellow color. Still had a good bead. Showing depth with secondary flavors of peaches, stone fruit and minerals. Heavier than the 2008. 93 points. (3780 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 12/26/2016 & rated 92 points: Courtesy of eyesintime. Notes of apple and cooked lemon. Fine bead with flavors of honeycomb, apple, peach and a nutty/caramel quality in the finish. Finishes with good length. At peak for my palate, thanks eyesintime. 92+ pts. (3124 views)
Tasted by tastark on 6/26/2016: Perfection. In an absolutely lovely spot. Drink it and enjoy. (3776 views)
Tasted by ubercuvee on 5/10/2016: Still just lovely - in a wonderful place right now (3777 views)
Tasted by ubercuvee on 11/30/2015 & rated 94 points: Still overdelivering (3946 views)
Tasted by tyvoodoo on 11/15/2015: Straw color in the glass with a yellow tinge. Lovely full and rich nose with baked pear, fresh pastry dough, lovely yeastiness and rich power. Pinot fruit coming through on the nose with some red apple skin, touch of graham cracker pie crust. Full bodied in the mouth with great palate presence, large framed and an absolute food wine. Starting to pick up a small touch of honeyed and an aged character. Enjoyable now and should continue to drink well for some time. (2290 views)
Tasted by Sheila62 on 6/15/2015: Just a killer champagne. I tasted this initially with Nicolas Chiquet at the family home. Great acidity, white plums and pears, flowers, truffled honey and bread dough. This bottle was brought to Husk in Nashville as part of an incredible meal..Paired perfectly with shrimp and grits, crispy chicken skin, and johnnie cakes with chipped beef and pimento cheese. (2683 views)
Tasted by Sheila62 on 3/1/2015: Excellent champagne (see previous notes) that is perfectly balanced with lush fruit and acidity. Just great enjoyed at Bistro Campagne in Lincoln Square with a carmelized onion streudel and brandade croquettes. Fell in love with this champagne while visiting Nicolas Chiquet in Dizy and have a been a big fan ever since. I adore this vintage of the Club. (2427 views)
Tasted by tooch on 10/27/2014 & rated 91 points: Chicago Rotating Dinner Series - 2001 Piedmont (Osteria Langhe - Chicago, IL): Aromas of pear, flint, apple, and florals gave this a very pretty nose. The palate was bright and fresh with some leesy notes. Tons of acidity and energy on the palate made this a very good Champagne. (4025 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 10/27/2014 & rated 92 points: Rotating Dinner Series- A tour of 2001 Barolo (Osteria Langhe, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose is very well balanced and classy with pears, red apples, brioche, biscuits, and a touch of white florals and minerals. There is excellent depth with a freshness to the tones too.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity. The acidity is very refreshing, but it is noticeable too with pears, red apples, brioche, yeasty tones, biscuits, and some white florals on the back end.

Overall: This was drinking very well. There was a freshness to it with excellent balance. This can certainly develop further, but it is very attractive right now. (3055 views)
Tasted by Sheila62 on 5/11/2014: This champagne is awesome. Just impeccably balanced. See my previous notes. Not as forward as most 2000 vintage champagne..great stuff (3011 views)
Tasted by Bumbanian on 5/10/2014 & rated 92 points: N: restrained, green apple, peach, citrus, a touch of almond or butterscotch. P: Flinty. Just off-dry. Really pleasant mouthfeel. Apple, stone, almost a metallic note there, and almond on the mid-palate, then lingering for 20 seconds or more. Takes some attention but there is a lot to like here. (2738 views)
Tasted by lauster on 5/2/2014 & rated 91 points: Drank over three and one half period. Did not change much as time went by, but had a very elegant taste. The amount of bubblies did disappoint me whatsoever. (2417 views)
Tasted by matage on 2/10/2014 & rated 89 points: A lot weaker than the last bottle - more than the time between occasions would warrant so I'm writing it off as bottle variance. Still a decent champagne but this particular one was over the top with less fruit and body. (2205 views)
Tasted by Libiamo! on 1/20/2014 & rated 88 points: Fine, persistent mousse. Clear, bright, medium lemon. Despite being disgorged in 09, I only get just a hint of yeast. Lemon, Asian pear, caramel notes dominant. On the palate, vinous, showing the ripe vintage. Medium (plus) finish with some nutty notes. Medium body. Medium plus acidity. Well-balanced if not particularly complex. (2310 views)
Tasted by amateurwino on 12/9/2013: Specific notes not kept but I enjoyed this; on par with other vintages of this wine that I've had. (1482 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 12/3/2013 & rated 92 points: Eyesintime brought this to an offline last weekend while visiting Chicago from Ohio. Medium yellow color. Solid bead. Playdough aromas (noticed first by Allred). Much younger tasting than the 1998 Lassalle Special Club but not nearly as deep. Notes of peach, citrus, flint and minerals. 4th Chiquet SC that I've had this year. I liked this better than the 2005 and about as much as the 2004. No rush to drink. 92 points. (1984 views)
Tasted by thelostverse on 11/29/2013 & rated 91 points: Opened by EIT at Anvil. Allred pointed out the play-doh notes to me and they really stood out as the wine warmed. Citrus and bread notes also present. I'd like to try this again in a few years. (1884 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 11/29/2013 & rated 92 points: Post-holiday dinner w/eyesintime (Anvil Club): Aromas of yeast, apple and citrus with play-doh overtones. Lemon, apple, chalk and limestone flavors. Young; give this one a few years yet. (2478 views)

Terry Theise Estate Selections, 2011 Champagne Catalog (6/1/2011)
(Gaston Chiquet "Spécial Club") ($74.00) A new disgorgement 7/09; as always it shows its meso-terroir, and now its evolving a deep green pool of sorrel and balsam and green tea to go with the talc and chalk and mirabelle and pistachio and apple-beignet; it’s showing the embryo of its mature flavor (as many 2000s do), and a Chablis-like brothiness. Often this wine strikes me as comparable to Clos de Goisses, albeit not as splendid. But it’s pure terroir, not about the proportions of the varieties.

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
