 Tasted by MerlynXLII on 8/24/2013 & rated 89 points: Color is ruby, semi-transparent. Nose had more earthiness that two years ago. Mellowing out some from earlier in it's life, but still some tannin left. The acidity adds great balence to the merlot and cab in the blend. Very drinkable. Paired perfectly with sun-dried tomato/pepperoni/pesto pizza.

 Tasted by North316 on 2/1/2012 & rated 89 points: Didn't try this wine previously, but happy I bought some of this. This is drinking very well right now. I tried some without aeration and some again through a Vinturi, this does not need the air.

Color: Nice bright ruby/garnet, great color.
Nose: Not much nose, a light blackberry smell, maybe a little spice.
Taste: First thing I got was a little heat, followed by a burst of fruit which I did not expect. Nice cherry flavor balances greatly with the heat. Nice smooth finish provides this with a great ending.

Given the level of fruit still showing, this one can probably take some more age. I wish I had more than 2 bottles left. (2304 views)

Not much nose, but on the palate there is plenty of cherry fruit, nicely balanced with some heat, acid and soft tannins. Nice long finish. I have a iot of this so I am very please that it still has a ways to go. Excellent QPR as usual. (3235 views)

Light to medium bodied, warm rhubarb pie a la mode, good cola-like acid, a small shot of sweet tannins, and a medium finish. Continues to mature in an interesting way. (3789 views)

Very acidic, slightly astringent. Overpowers the fruit flavors. Some red fruit, some oak. Medium-thin body.

Muted red fruits are the first flavor noticeable on the palate.
Good balance on the acidity, noticeable but not too much bite
Medium bodied, barest hint of tannin

SuperTuscan Blend

SuperTuscan Blend refers to wines which feature a significant Sangiovese component combined with grapes not traditionally associated with Italy like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. This separates it from "Sangiovese blend" which is used for wines which are predominantly Sangiovese and combined with traditional Italian varieties. There is often confusion as many wines most famous associated with the term "Super Tuscan" like Sassicaia, Masseto and Ornellaia have no Sangiovese and are properly linked to 'Red Bordeaux Blend.'

In fact, Super Tuscan was a term coined to refer specifically to wines such as Sassicaia and Tignanello. These were wines that "fell out" of the official DOCG classification of Italian wines because they either contained grapes not permitted (international varietals such as cabernet sauvignon or merlot,) were aged differently (I.e. in barrique) or were 100% sangiovese - which was not permitted at the time for Chianti (E.g. Fontodi Flaccianello.) Forced to be classified as simply "Vina di Tavola" these wines nontheless quickly found favour in international markets and comanded prices above the highest quality DOCG Chianti Classico & Brunello di Montalcino wines at the time. The wine industry and press began to refer to these wines as SuperTuscans because of their popularity and quality, but also because of the prices they commanded. Subsequently, the Italian authorities, under the Goria Law 1992, redrew the classifications, and included the category IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) to classify the SuperTuscans.

Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
