Community Tasting Notes (average 88.7 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 32 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Darrencrow on 6/29/2013 & rated 84 points: This is actually the 2011 but my phone app won't let me change the year after I added it. Lots of strawberry and watermelon. Dry on the finish. Good but not stellar. Not as good as other 20 dollar bottles. (3084 views)
Tasted by chbeaumont on 5/12/2012 & rated 85 points: Vivid pink; fruit fading; crisp, retains freshness but little of interest. Weighty, long finish but unconvincing. (3884 views)
Tasted by collin on 4/4/2012: Better than my previous bottles last summer. I guess 2009 was sufficiently big that it needed a bit of extra time. (4164 views)
Tasted by collin on 8/21/2011: Much better than the previous bottle. This was not a great rose, but rewarded saving the bottle for a year all the same. Essentially like the new vintage, only with the volume turned down (a good thing in the case of this wine). Missed the extra minerality that can come out in year-old versions of this wine. (4740 views)
Tasted by collin on 8/6/2011: A disappointment. Starts out a bit lactic. As it got some air, becomes more palatable, but never developed the minerality or interest I was looking for. Hopefully a bad bottle. (4734 views)
Tasted by chbeaumont on 8/4/2011 & rated 88 points: Vivid coral pink; lovely mixed summer fruits, crunchy; dry, touch clunky at the moment & so best with food and should benefit from more time. (2504 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 7/3/2011 & rated 88 points: Sineann wines and whole bunch of other stuff (Our home): Very nice wine and a warm summer evening. Some strawberries, hints of watermelon. Clean and refreshing. Nice balance. Always a crowd pleaser. (3504 views)
Tasted by sommelier41 on 4/24/2011 & rated 90 points: Beautiful, vibrant, fresh raspberries and strawberries with floral notes of vanilla and rose. Strawberries full across the palate with lush raspberry and blackberry accents, notes of rose petals along the mid into the Juicy fruit finish. Great acidity....almost frizante. (2251 views)
Tasted by fredb on 12/29/2010: Orange-salmon color. Smoky bay, cherry, cranberry, and garrigue on the nose. Palate follow with tart cherry and cranberry notes riding on a bay-dominated herbal savory character. The finish is medium and has a nice acidity to keep it refreshing. Good wintertime rose, as this has more stuffing than your typical pink from further south. Drink. (2592 views)
Tasted by Marc on 11/28/2010 & rated 90 points: Really impressive weight on the back palate. Rich herbal strawberry fruit with depth and significant alcohol on the finish (14.5%). This is outstanding wine but in some ways a little tiring. The wine requires food that can stand up to the concentration and moderate the heat. A serious rose. (2664 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 10/14/2010: Jemrose Dinner @ Marche Moderne in the OC (Marche Moderne, Costa Mesa CA): I had trouble taking down some notes on this wine, as I don't drink a lot of rose. Red fruits, leaning towards strawberry and medium weight. (3766 views)
Tasted by tward on 10/12/2010 & rated 88 points: Very enjoyable, strawberry color and nose, quite lush for a rose, high toned fruit (2800 views)
Tasted by David J Cooper on 9/27/2010: Bright pink. Nice raspberry, strawberry and mineral nose, in a dry style. Delicious flavours and a dry finish. A bit more fruit then the wines of Provence. (2857 views)
Tasted by fredb on 9/7/2010: Transparent red-orange color. Aromas of bay, watermelon, garrigue, and cranberry cocktail. On the palate, this shows a cranberry-watermelon and bay flavor profile with a hint of cantaloupe coming at the end. Some heat shows on the finish. Better balance than a bottle in July. Drink. (2999 views)
Tasted by fredb on 7/20/2010: Pink color with orange hints. Aromas of bay, allspice, watermelon, red berries and alcohol. The initial palate impression is of watermelon, cantaloupe, and bay leaf. That is quickly followed by a big hit of alcohol. The finish is almost like rose and vodka. Served at 58F cellar temperature. If this can figure out how to balance out the heat, it will be fine; otherwise, a disappointment. (3210 views)
Tasted by khmark7 on 7/8/2010 & rated 88 points: Very nice and well balanced. Just a little more acidic backbone would push this to 90 pts. (3490 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 7/3/2010 & rated 85 points: Light clear red; softer, fresher and more fruity than 2008, but still on sour side (3349 views)
Tasted by xwine on 6/26/2010: Didn't take any notes, but my impression was that, while this is a very nice bottle of rosé, it is not as good as the deep and profound (for a rosé) Trinquevedel -- particularly for the money. (3373 views)
Tasted by Haltermr on 5/31/2010 & rated 90 points: A very nice bottle with grapefruit, nectarine, raspberry and strawberry on the nose. Palate is a lovely balance of body and acid, with a pleasing finish.
I liked this very much, but did not find it a "wow" wine, and I need a wow to pay $30 for a rose. (3561 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 5/26/2010 & rated 88 points: Roses (With some surprises - Good and Bad): Deep strawberry in color. The nose has a nice watermelon quality. Complex on the palate with strawberries and minerals. Long nice finish with a slight bitterness. This was very nice but for $36 Ohio, it is priced way too high to make sense. (4369 views)
Tasted by Snoman on 4/12/2010 & rated 92 points: Never thought I'd use the term "complex" and "rose" in the same sentence, but this one surprised and delighted. Pretty light strawberry-red in glass, with a blend of 6 different varietals in the blend, it just kept coming on in waves of cherry, strawberry, rose petal and red cassis, but in a very subdued and balanced way. Bone dry, rich in fruit, and balanced mineral and acidity. Went with everything we tried it with, like a Champagne, and drank just as well bone-cold as it did at room temperature. Not many roses can perform like this one. (3915 views)
Tasted by dynowine on 4/1/2010 & rated 92 points: Elegant rose with inviting nose of mineral and cooling berry fruit; in the mouth pleasant initial acid bite which promptly opened into a glycerin-covered rush of rich warm fruit and mineral with a hint of floral. Finish lingers with a gentle sweet, oily, floral taste. Well-balanced, nothing extreme, full in all the ways that matter. Off-dry, medium acid, medium body, complex for a rose. Yum. Serve at 55 deg F. (3886 views)

U.S. Importer (Addt'l Info)

Started in 1986 by the Delorme brothers, Domaine de la Mordoree (woodcock) has become one of the top estates in the Rhone, with arguably the most consistent quality. Christophe Delorme's objective as a winemaker is to be unintrusive and maintain total respect for his terroir and the fruit it produces, striving to achieve a perfect balance between concentration and terroir. The domaine consists of 55 Hectares, on 38 different parcels, providing a rich, wide range of soils and climates. They practice "culture raisonnée", with minimum intervention in the vineyards, and as close as possible organic viticulture.

The Story:

"The end never justifies the means" is the motto at Christophe Delorme's revered Domaine de la Mordorée. He believes that the means of achieving greatness is as important as the result itself. For Christophe, the "means" consists of total respect for Mother Nature, a philosophy that has guided him for the last 15 years. In 1986, Christophe Delorme decided to dedicate himself to his passion for wine. He started his estate with the objective to produce the best wines in each appellation while maintaining preservation of the environment. The majority of Christophe's vineyard sites are organic and biodynamic and they have established their own ecosystems within each site.

The improvements at the domaine have been incredible: new pneumatic presses, new stainless steel vats, new destemmers, new vinification techniques and ageing in the best quality oak barrels for their top wines. Only natural products are used to fertilize the soil in order to propigate biological activity with weeds grown between rows of vines to inhibit soil erosion and harmful insects. The yield is reduced in the vineyard by ébourgeonnage (de budding in spring) and "vendanges vertes" in summer (green harvesting). Machine Harvesting is forbidden and against the domaine's natural focus. The complex integrated pest control system which utilizes natural ecosystems is used instead of manmade intervention. No expense is spared at the Estate of this dynamic and advanced Rhône Producer.

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

Tavel

Wiki article on Tavel AOC.
Grenache and Cinsault are the main grapes used in the appellation's wines, along with Syrah and Mourvedre, although the latter two were not permitted until 1969. Tavel wines are dry and tend to have more body and structure than most rosés. They can be cellared, but are usually drunk young.
