Tasted by Downeaster on 12/2/2023: Delicious - time to drink! (486 views)
Tasted by DCSteve on 12/1/2023 & rated 92 points: You would never know that '11 was an off vintage by drinking this TRB cab. This wine is singing right now. (490 views)
Tasted by RMundell on 7/22/2023 & rated 95 points: Drinking really good. 12 years in a poor year in Napa and it's so good. (644 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 5/30/2023 & rated 91 points: Smooth, integrated, somewhat muted fruit for a TRB wine. (876 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 4/5/2023: Victim of wine tasting, a crowd favorite. (910 views)
Tasted by SICILIAN-SOLE on 4/18/2022 & rated 94 points: Last bottle. Similar to my note from a year ago. Great wine! (1674 views)
Tasted by tomlee on 4/3/2022 & rated 93 points: Crimson in color. 14.2% ABV. Sublime nose of blue and black fruits, molten licorice and Whitman Sampler box. Rich, decadent and perfectly balanced. Warm, supple and very approachable. Currants, cassis liqueur, blueberries and chocolate on the palate. Nice length on the finish with gritty tannins. Better than a bottle a little over a year ago. Super Cabernet Sauvignon from an uneven vintage. Best over the next 2-3 years. (1635 views)
Tasted by kabert on 3/19/2022 & rated 87 points: At opening on Friday night, this seemed like somewhat watery oaky juice. I managed to finish half a glass — it didn’t seem defective and certainly not over the hill, just very disjointed and oaky. I thought perhaps lots of air time would help, so I left the bottle uncorked all night on the counter, and recorked it Saturday morning. Saturday evening, I reopened it — hoping for a miraculous change. Though the oak had toned down somewhat and there was some dark fruit peeking through, it was still a lightweight with a watery mouthfeel. During the evening, the oak continued to recede a bit but it never became a particularly enjoyable wine. This was a recent auction purchase and I have one more, so I guess I should probably open that other one in the near future to see if this bottle was an anomaly. (1505 views)
Tasted by tcarter on 12/20/2021 & rated 91 points: Solid enough but not really wowing me like most R-M cabs. Light/medium bodied, a bit simplistic profile on the palette. Solid weeknight table red. Wife liked it more than I did. (1633 views)
Tasted by tcarter on 12/18/2021 & rated 90 points: Very fair. Not up to R-M’s usual standard for cabs. (1522 views)
Tasted by ayoshida on 12/18/2021 & rated 92 points: Drinking window says it's time to open this and it was not wrong.

Had with some nice Peruvian takeout from a local restaurant. No decant, pour and drink.

Fruit, oak, and spice are predominant on the nose. More fruit and spice on the palate balanced with smooth tannins and a great long finish. As they say, "Drink Now!" (1151 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 10/17/2021 & rated 93 points: Delicious ripe blackberry, cassis, oak, and spice on the nose and silky palate with soft tannins on the savory long finish. (1372 views)
Tasted by SICILIAN-SOLE on 4/28/2021 & rated 94 points: Dark fruit, cassis, grilled herbs and chocolate notes. Firm, but resolved tannins with nice acidic structure. Drank over 3 days and it did not fade at all. No rush...5 years left. (1739 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 4/25/2021 & rated 93 points: As delicious as the last bottle! (1446 views)
Tasted by tomlee on 3/20/2021 & rated 92 points: Purple in color. 14.2% ABV. Sublime nose of red and black fruits, licorice, scorched earth and chocolate. Medium to full bodied with nice acidity. Restrained, elegant and exceedingly approachable. Currants, cherry, cranberry and spice on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Delicious Cabernet Sauvignon but not necessarily what I expected. Serve this to that person in your life that says all Napa Cabernet tastes like a blueberry milkshake. Sometimes a bottle from an off vintage really delivers albeit in a surprising fashion. Best over the next 2-3 years. (1515 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 3/9/2021 & rated 93 points: Delicious ripe blackberry, cassis, oak, and spice on the nose and silky palate with soft tannins on the long finish. (1528 views)
Tasted by DCSteve on 1/30/2021 & rated 91 points: One of the good ones from 2011, a rough vintage (1526 views)
Tasted by btock on 12/24/2020 & rated 94 points: With a to-go prime rib dinner from local fav Copper Hen on Christmas Eve. Splash decanted. The wine really started to show well in hour two out of the decanter. Classy medium weight Cab. Garnet coloring, tending towards darker hues. Red plum, touch of black pepper. Nice length on the finish. Double decanted about 1/4 of the bottle back and enjoyed a couple nights later. Still showed great, which gives me optimism on ageability of my 2nd bottle of this. Relative to an '09 of this which was massive and hot, this '11 was right in my strike zone. (1454 views)
Tasted by pswines1908 on 12/23/2020 & rated 93 points: Excellent. Great dark fruit flavor. Some licorice. Good balance between dry and full fruit. (1470 views)
Tasted by Wine Sparty on 10/10/2020 & rated 92 points: Cedar box aroma with dark fruits. Nicely balanced dark berry flavors with some good tannin presence. Well done for the vintage. (1595 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 9/5/2020 & rated 91 points: Rich dark fruit with plum, cassis and well integrated tannins (1525 views)
Tasted by Bellissimo on 9/1/2020: Shared with friends, didn't focus as much on the wine as the conversation. Dropped into a decanter consumed over 4 hours. Really started hitting its stride around 1 hour mark. Black fruit and mocha; silky integrated tannins; medium+ finish with just a hint of oak. Pleasing! (1587 views)
Tasted by spidersva on 8/8/2020 & rated 92 points: Too minty in times past, was really nice this time after being open for an hour or so. (1428 views)
Tasted by Maphill01 on 3/16/2020: Plum and other purple fruit. Some chocolate and earthy notes. Soft tannins, sweet cherry finish. Plush. Enjoyable effort in a difficult year. Drink up. (1780 views)
Tasted by gharter on 1/17/2020 & rated 88 points: A really good wine in an off vintage. Black fruit, spice, cedar, cassis and an herbal component on the nose and flavors. Not as full bodied as some years. Silky smooth tannin in the finish. Very good now. Not sure I would hold more than a few years. (1730 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
