Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 39 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by JGinMO on 5/11/2022 & rated 92 points: I was wrong on last try, this was indeed better. Fruit was vibrant on first night, wine had taken on weight and secondary flavors by second night. Overperformed. (389 views)
Tasted by JGinMO on 10/29/2020 & rated 91 points: At first a little prunish, but that blew off after 30-45 mins in the glass. After that I'd say a bit fruit-heavy, not a lot of earthy/secondary flavors I'd prefer. Hard for me to see this getting better. (741 views)
Tasted by dlowrey99 on 12/1/2019 & rated 89 points: Nothing that remarkable, but a very enjoyable wine, easy to drink, classic CdR profile, well-rounded and balanced between fruit, earth, and herb. Was a crowdpleaser, enjoyed over traditional Thanksgiving meal. Decanted in glass; from a 1.5L. (894 views)
Tasted by wicozani on 1/4/2017 & rated 90 points: Opened 30 minutes prior to pairing with Martha Stewart's Green Cauldron Curry recipe. A medium+ ruby in the glass, the nose beckoning with currant, plum, thyme and a very little bit of menthol. Very good+ intensity and concentration, extending into a 20+ second finish; a bit of sediment in the glass at the end. This stood up just fine to the spicy curry dish, and was very much appreciated by HRH and I! (2489 views)
Tasted by whudock on 1/24/2015 & rated 91 points: deep color, stains the glass. Lots of complexity with deep fruits, leather, earth and graphite. Nice longish finish. Very well integrated. (4002 views)
Tasted by Capt Cutlass on 1/1/2015 & rated 87 points: Inky and concentrated nose with cherries and some leather. Very juicy and concentrated but tastes like it is losing its grip. Too much alcohol and you can feel the 15%. Drink up! (3756 views)
Tasted by BrunelloBob on 11/15/2014 & rated 88 points: Good, age-mellowed. Drink now. (3684 views)
Tasted by tim m on 10/10/2014 & rated 90 points: This one's at peak right now. No need to air either. (3619 views)
Tasted by G_H on 12/1/2013 & rated 90 points: Like an old school CdP, this Cote du Rhone continues to perform beautifully, unoaked and focused on the fruit and minerals... (2493 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 10/15/2013 & rated 90 points: Floral - violet, herb, spice, wood and alcohol scent. Juicy, thick, chocolate covered cherry, coffee, mint and earth flavor. Rich and complex with nice acidity. (2452 views)
Tasted by Primordialsoup on 7/19/2013 & rated 91 points: Solid CdR. Juicy with a bit of glycerine that provides a good mouth feel while old world meets new world fruit (i.e. not too much and not stuck in a time warp) and eases into a smooth finish. Would like to see what this has to offer in another 5-8. Will have to seek more. (1613 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 3/10/2013 & rated 89 points: Asian spice, blackberry, raspberry, mint and mocha flavor with ample, ripe tannins and a medium length finish. After breathing, the palate became much thicker as the fruit flavors subsided and the mint and mocha became more predominant. (2473 views)
Tasted by wicozani on 2/10/2013 & rated 87 points: Decanted 90 minutes before pairing with grilled pork loin chops. Ruby red in the glass, with the nose of red fruits, herbs and alcohol. Notably sweet on the palate, with soft red fruits, a hint of herbs and noticeable ethanol. Was fairly simple, and perhaps this would be better on its own versus pairing with grilled meats. I'll next decant for 2-3 hours in advance of drinking on its own, and report back. (1840 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 9/9/2012 & rated 91 points: Sunday Brown Bag Tasting: 2009 Chateauneuf-du-Pape (Augie's): Inky garnet color. Aromas of cherry, red currant and anise; also a bit hot. Medium-bodied with subtle red fruit flavors picking up pleasant spice tones on the lengthy finish. Good underlying acidity.

Tasted by noahbw on 3/15/2012 & rated 90 points: Needed 2 hours in the decanter to shake of the tight alcohol high end. Thereafter the nose revealed a composed and elegant display of apricot, earth, mineral, stone, raisins, and small herbal flowers. There's a dark musty layer that plays subtle notes. Wonderful quiet complexities. More minerals in the mouth with expressive mature fruits and berries. Lurking licorice and anise linger. This wine seems to continually turn on the palate like facets in a complex gem. (2410 views)
Tasted by Engelund on 9/17/2011 & rated 90 points: Rhonefestival 2011 Danmark (Dansk Vincenter i Avedøre): God vin og til prisen + 1 ekstra point. Pris 135DKK. (4849 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 8/3/2011: Rich and very full bore Grenachy stuff. Great if its $10, Solid at $15. Over at $20. (3003 views)
Tasted by shadow on 6/7/2011 & rated 91 points: First time with this wine, I'm happy, its a Rhone, got the dark meat, smooth finish, touch of menthol (2736 views)
Tasted by Christoffer78 on 4/25/2011 & rated 90 points: Well-made, straight forward but still a good example of Philippe Cambie's skills as a wine-maker. All components are in place but tonight the wine felt a bit unbalanced. Recommended. (4397 views)
Tasted by G_H on 3/18/2011 & rated 92 points: Big, fat (nearly as fat as the producer massive but classic Rhone style. Beautiful Fruit paired with white pepper, also some white pepper in the palate. This one is a fantastic value (2719 views)
Tasted by Rayas78 on 3/12/2011 & rated 91 points: Concentrated, long, full bodiied. Syrah and mourvedre flavors in balance. Outstanding value. Ready to drink. (3990 views)
Tasted by hutch on 3/7/2011 & rated 88 points: Rich, sappy, full bodied. 88+ (2268 views)
Tasted by Christoffer78 on 3/4/2011 & rated 91 points: Well made, straight forward, food friendly. The Mourvèdre is rather toned down tonight but the blend of 80% Mourvèdre and 20% Grenache provides structure as well as mature dark fruits. Nice acidity and a rather "fresh" appearance. Recommended. (3174 views)
Tasted by Christoffer78 on 1/25/2011 & rated 91 points: Nice, very typical Philippe Cambie wine. Fruit forward, pleasant tannins, oak well integrated. Drinking perfect right now. Recommended. (2946 views)
Tasted by Christoffer78 on 12/31/2010 & rated 92 points: Very well made and "fruit forward" this blend 80-20 blend of Mourvèdre and Grenache is something you should try to find if you love the Philippe Cambie style of wines. (Production is about 750 cases so it might be a bit difficult.) It works excellent to heavier foods thanks to the almost creamy acidity (if that is possible...) and a firm but pleasant texture, probably thanks to the Mourvèdre. Recommended. (2946 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
