Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 45 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Floral on 3/15/2024 & rated 90 points: Had blind.

Medium red color. Medium opacity. No obvious staining. More funk on the nose. More lifting than brooding. red fruit. Cherry. Still something herbal. This was strange. Left me thinking strange CdP. (68 views)
Tasted by dase13 on 3/31/2020 & rated 93 points: Color of light to medium red with some clearness around the edges. Scents of cherry with some spice. Tastes right upon opening were only acidity and green pepper, but after about an hour tastes turned to be much better with red cherry, cracked black pepper and a bit of earthiness. (534 views)
Tasted by konadog on 9/11/2019 & rated 91 points: Still drinking very well. With bright notes of black raspberry and some Asian/cardamom notes (647 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 3/3/2019 & rated 90 points: Gave it almost two hours of air. Ruby red. Astringent on opening the mellows with time. Medium bodied, some cherry red fruit, pleasant finish. (709 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 11/17/2018: Remarkably light and elegant
Very nice wine (780 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 7/10/2018 & rated 91 points: So the missus asked me how long this had been open as she thought it a bit funky. Very translucent. Very cherry forward wine with a slight stringent note on the mid tongue. More grenache (or pinot) than we prefer. But.....intriguing. (919 views)
Tasted by 1997cobalt on 8/30/2016 & rated 91 points: Slow to open, had on second day and was much smoother and in balance. (1600 views)
Tasted by iamandyc on 8/27/2016 & rated 88 points: Very spicy and earthy. Has good acidity and energy. It is a mouthful (1429 views)
Tasted by Crunge on 12/25/2015 & rated 80 points: Extremely light in the glass, already mostly brown. Sour flavors hid most of the fruit. If I'd had this in a blind tasting, I would have picked it as an extremely old, over-the-hill wine, 10+ years past its peak. (1737 views)
Tasted by dontime on 10/30/2015: Can I have another (case)? This stuff is really good. Smoky, dark fruits some Good and Plenties. All the stuff I like in a Grenache. If scoring 91-93. (1722 views)
Tasted by dontime on 3/24/2015: As others suggest, light in color, but certainly not light in flavor. Needed some air to settle in, but delicious at dinner. If scoring 92-94. (2084 views)
Tasted by DaninClearwater on 12/26/2014 & rated 93 points: berries and fruit, berries and fruit
long finish, slightly hot??
very good wine (1296 views)
Tasted by Old Gray Hare on 11/18/2014 & rated 89 points: Floral (rose) nose. Initial flavor reenforces the floral quality with some strawberry and vanilla/oak. The flavor is much more powerful than the light color portends. Smooth moderately long finish with just a bit of heat. (1370 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 11/1/2014: This was very light in color of the 6 wines we tried this afternoon, and a little funky, initially. That largely blew off, but the wine never impressed in the way a previous bottle did. The fruit seemed lean, with a prominent herbaceous note (1195 views)
Tasted by dlcass on 10/18/2014 & rated 92 points: Nice wine. White pepper. (1187 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 7/11/2014 & rated 91 points: Graceful, mid-weight grenache packed with red fruit and some interesting herbal elements (presumably from the stem inclusion). My wife thought there was a rustic, almost barnyard-y element on the nose but I wasn't getting that myself. There's a shade of alcoholic warmth on the finish. Good stuff but, based on a recent tasting at the winery, the '12 is a definite step up. (1155 views)
Tasted by T.O.Wineaux on 6/28/2014 & rated 93 points: Just a fabulous nose of fruit and spice with a touch of cherry. The palate is filled with layers and layers of red fruit with a finish that leaves you wanting for more. Another 100% Grenache that makes me question why so few winemakers offer this as a single varietal bottling...Delicious! TRB does it again! (1114 views)
Tasted by Bgrahamdc on 12/26/2013 & rated 90 points: Lighter than I remember. Raspberry and strawberry notes. Long finish. Very nice wine. (1370 views)
Tasted by rb6615 on 7/28/2013 & rated 90 points: Very Good - smooth (1640 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
