Tasted by blisscompound on 4/19/2021 & rated 90 points: This is definitely still happening. Very pleasurable. Holding in a playful joyous zone. (1009 views)
Tasted by chitowncdpguy on 10/18/2015: My last bottle, shared with friends, and happy to know these can keep giving for this long. Anise and earth were the two dominant impressions for me with some dark fruit. One of the tasters also got some tea flavors and I could see that. (2912 views)
Tasted by gnosis on 6/19/2015: Wow, this was worth the wait. It definitely benefitted from the age. Crimson eye, funky, medicinal nose, with a complex bouquet of herbs, earth, mature fruit. Resolved tannins and good grippy texture. Lingering mature aged fruits, red, currants, red forest berries, leather, menthol, etc. Long length on the finish. Mmmm. Quite an interesting bottle for the price. Thumbs up! (3256 views)
(3649 views)
Tasted by redwhiteandrich on 10/15/2012 & rated 90 points: Barnyard and a touch of brett on the nose. This could have aged another 5 years. Upon popping, this was a mouth puckering tannic beast, only with about an hour did things come together. leather and wild brambly fruit. Excellent. (5122 views)
Tasted by khmark7 on 4/15/2012 & rated 87 points: Leather and brett on the nose with a tannic, but balanced mid-palate and finish. Holding up well due to the heavy tannins. (4894 views)
Tasted by Bobc7had on 1/14/2012 & rated 87 points: Starting to fade a little. (3738 views)
 Tasted by Bobc7had on 8/8/2011 & rated 89 points: drinking beautifully .
Enjoy it now! (4043 views)
Tasted by Pang Harvey on 7/27/2011 & rated 90 points: Absoloutely marvellous at this price. Something of the farmyard about the nose, and wonderfully smooth tannins and hint of leather in the taste. Wish I'd waited before opening previous bottles and agree with the previous who said will last another couple of years - be interesting to see how it develops. (3729 views)
Tasted by Ken332 on 2/9/2011 & rated 90 points: Wonderful fruit up front. I assume this is a blend of Syrah and Grenache. Wonderful mid-range and finish with considerable complexity and interplay between the Syrah and Grenache. Tried to look up the composition but could not find a description. A Parker review of earlier vintages indicates Syrah and Grenache. Based on the flavors, I would guess at least 40% Syrah, but that is just a guess. Excellent length and finish on this wine. Next to the last of 8 bottles and it is suprising me by how long it is holding up. Still has at least 2-3 more years to go. (3012 views)
Tasted by shellylowen on 2/2/2011 flawed bottle: Leaky cork - vinegar (3030 views)
Tasted by Pang Harvey on 1/4/2011 & rated 85 points: drinking very nicely now. (3070 views)
Tasted by notsoft on 12/1/2010 & rated 81 points: bof bof dof (3133 views)
Tasted by khmark7 on 10/28/2010 & rated 88 points: A brett bomb. Smells like the farm, but very nice overall. (3373 views)
Tasted by Viking1055 on 3/15/2010 & rated 92 points: Like the flavor and long tasting finish. (3678 views)
Tasted by mark_m_owen on 2/21/2010 & rated 87 points: Fruit backed off a little, plenty of spice in evidence. MEdium weight, not aggressive and when paired with a venison casserole it ramped up significantly. (3645 views)
Tasted by herberto on 1/6/2010 & rated 87 points: I wasn't expecting a lot. But actually this was pretty good. Real Bretty nose that I wouldn't expect in this bottling, authentic Southern Rhone tang. (3685 views)
Tasted by mark_m_owen on 12/18/2009 & rated 87 points: Not quite as fruity as previous bottle but still has the body. There is definitely some bottle variation across these. Still a very pleasant rhone with soft edges and a nice spicy note. Went pretty well with venison steaks & a red onion/wine sauce although a bit more austerity might have offset the sweetness of the sauce a little better. (3823 views)
Tasted by stueys on 12/11/2009 & rated 91 points: Still like this. Nice dark fruit nose, mineral herbs and spice on the palate with a nice, medium finish with a touch of heat. All in all very nice, some lamb on the grill would set this one off. Great QPR. (3977 views)
Tasted by jjclips2 on 10/5/2009 & rated 91 points: Hands down best CdR I've experienced. Also one of the best QPR's. Super complex. That youthful, ripe kirsch has evolved into dried herbs, bing cherry, rose petal, and tar. Elegant on the palate, offered tertiary, earthy, minerally, dried fruits. Orange peel, sun dried berries, warm spice. Quite nice. (4018 views)
Tasted by esb on 9/20/2009: This was a mess at opening - slight reduction and very tight - no fruit, disjointed and bitter tannin. It took two hours in a big decanter and a little copper to come around. After that it showed nice red fruit, chocolate, and soil but not complex. It had a rich palate with medium concentration, still not perfect balance and some finishing light, fine tannin. Overall, nice wine but a lot of work. May have been off. (4018 views)
Tasted by pgb67 on 9/18/2009 & rated 91 points: One of the best CdRs I've had in a while, with a pitch perfect plum color, a nose evoking dark berries and Rhonish scents of garrigue, lavender, and spice. The palate was surprisingly refreshing and bright, with peppery, spicy fruit. (4077 views)
Tasted by jciuccio on 9/7/2009 & rated 92 points: this wine is great Classic rhone spce and good depth. The follow is a but abrupt but a great food wine. (4199 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 5/31/2009 & rated 87 points: Dark purple color. Fresh blueberries on the attractive nose. Tastes of mature prune and rasin fruit. Finishes with a touch of bitterness. Not bad but nothing exciting. Needed some air for the palate to open up. (4244 views)
Tasted by Vinacull on 5/24/2009 & rated 87 points: Respi-Aerate to decanter, vigorous swirl and serve. Color dark dirty ruby with vibrant purple at the rim. The cork was fully intact but the nose is not what I expected based on prior experiences with the '05, and with Mon Coeur across four vintages: Over-ripe and baked dark fruit, a bit of alcohol, earth, and licorice, which did not go away through 2.5 hours of sipping. On the palate the fruit tastes almost pruny, but bears some resemblance to the ripe strawberry, raspberry, minerals and earth seen in previous bottles. Despite the fruit characteristics in the nose and mouth, the tannins are still noticeable and give a pleasant mild pucker through an earthy raspberry and mineral-laden finish. Overall I cannot say it was flawed, but it certainly seemed to be an awkward showing. Not sad I opened this last bottle, but I do wish I had another to try in a year. Looking for better things in the '07. (4264 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
