Tasted by dbkitc on 4/18/2024 & rated 92 points: I don’t have a lot of experience with 2012 burgundies but this follows suit for MG Vosne. I mean that in all the best ways. Transparent, red fruited, perfect balance, typical spice and earth, long vibrant finish and a level of completeness and satisfaction that goes well beyond most village wines. Fresh. I could drink this five time a week with absolute pleasure. Unfortunately, I have neither the access nor the means to do so. Love this to drink over the next 7 to 10 years. (92) (466 views)
Tasted by RobinTeo on 3/15/2024 & rated 93 points: The one with Tai Wah BCM: Tasted a few days after initial opening and was kept in a airtight bottle. Still so fresh and structured that I had this pegged for 2015/2016. Black plums, tree bark and earthy undertones leap at you before dark cherries, plums and hawthorn spice take over the palate. Great fruit concentration with a sturdyness that only seemed to softened after a few days. Fantastic and a really serious drink for a village! (540 views)
Tasted by Sean Tay on 2/24/2024 & rated 94 points: Very good quality for a village wine which explain for its price point. Pronounced nose intensity with notes of red and black fruits, violet, flora, spices. Finish is medium. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin. Will improve with ageing. (647 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 5/16/2023 & rated 91 points: Good to revisit this in blind. It was floral and red fruit. Good drive on the palate for a village, but the lack of depth and complexity indicate its level when I had it blind. (1537 views)
Tasted by swade on 1/30/2023 & rated 93 points: Earthy aromas. Black cherry and spice flavors. Polished and spherical in the mouth. This was a birthday treat to myself. As usual, punches way beyond it's level. This was fantastic. 93 (1446 views)
Tasted by swade on 4/1/2022 & rated 90 points: Primary, deep color. Earthy aromas. Plum skin and broad, enveloping slate flavors. Typical M-G polish. Miles to go. 90 (1883 views)
Tasted by the godfather on 12/18/2021: Consistent with prior note (2133 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 6/8/2021 & rated 92 points: Pnp, developed beautifully in the glass within some minutes towards a highly elegant wine. Mainly black, but also red fruit, the typical Vosne spice, some (noble) wood. Ready for business. (2782 views)
Tasted by jrh82 on 4/4/2021 & rated 93 points: Unbelievable quality for village level. One tick up from last bottle. (2617 views)
Tasted by BenBlu on 1/30/2021 & rated 92 points: Just wonderful the nose draws you right in and it’s Vosne. On the palate sour cherry, plums, with a sweet sour interplay. Very finely textured. I had three bottles of this over the last weeks as I just think it’s drinking and ready and day two is weak. So I think this is one of the 12s folks should be pulling corks. Very poised with high acidity and white airy. (2895 views)
Tasted by BenBlu on 12/23/2020 & rated 92 points: This was probably the best village Burgundy I had all year. From the first moment sensual earth and spice notes, so round and pleasing. Not the most complexity here but the drinkability is off the charts. Yeah... that's why people dig Mugneret Gibourg so much I guess. (2493 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 12/4/2020: Given 2 hours of air in the bottle. Light ruby. Resiny oak (curiously smelling more American than French), menthol, and a bit of cinnamon. In the mouth, medium weight with a noticeable wood base and a touch of earth. Piquant small black berries, anise, and citrus. Gentle, moderate tannins but little in the way of silkiness. When I tasted this a few years ago, I thought it was a perfect embodiment of village Vosne. Tonight it was merely very good, best for its vivid fruit, but the strong imprint of the wood was both surprising and intrusive. Hard to blame this showing on a shut down phase since it was quite forthcoming. (2559 views)
Tasted by the godfather on 6/21/2020 & rated 94 points: In typical sister’s fashion this was a stunning example of the village and vintage (2183 views)
Tasted by JOsgood on 6/20/2020 & rated 94 points: Smoking good! Just flawless as these wines always are. The purity is unreal. (2006 views)
Tasted by jhbehrens on 4/14/2020 & rated 91 points: Stereotypical fine red Burgundy. Subtle acidity, earthy tones and red fruit, light and thirst quenching. Just doesn’t have anything remarkable. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a wonderful bottle of wine, elegant and flawless but not memorable. Ready to drink. (1977 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 12/29/2019 & rated 90 points: I once had a dream that all Villages level wine could be this good. But then I woke up and bought more Mugneret-Gibourg. (3070 views)
 Tasted by hajoha on 10/5/2019 & rated 92 points: Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne-Romanee 2012.
Sensuell aromatikk som få andre enn søstrene klarer.
Herlig sniffevin.
Flott fruktkvalitet, men tar gjerne litt ekstra tid for å slipe ned de siste kantene.
Stram finish. 92p (2538 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 7/20/2019 & rated 91 points: Very flowery and delicate. Transperent with sweet red currant and spice. Well made for a village. Much more expressive than I last tried it. (2342 views)
Tasted by jrh82 on 3/1/2019 & rated 92 points: Wow, this is brilliant. Beautiful perfume of strawberry and spice. Damn this is deep for village level. Elegant and pretty. In the mouth very textural. The wine spreads out across your entire mouth. Pleasant restrained acid and silky smooth tannins. This one was beautifully straight out of the bottle before it took a breath and then came storming back after about 60-90 min in the bottle. Seven years must be perfect for village from this producer in 2012. I take my hat off for Mugneret Gibourg if this wine is even better in a couple of years considering it's so good today. 92-93 pts. (2438 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 11/16/2018 & rated 91 points: I did not follow my own recommendation and opened the next one: red and black fruit, strawberries, spicy, pure, approachable, but still quite closed. Just at the beginning of its drinking window. (2177 views)
Tasted by vulgar little monkey on 10/28/2018 & rated 91 points: Started out very tight, to the point where a few of us found it unpleasant. Along with a really awkward showing from the 2013 and a shy 2008, I was wondering if my love for this wine was misplaced. We moved on to something else, but an hour later when we came back, we found a much more supple, layered and feathery wine. Spice nuances draped over some deep fruit. The tannin had receded a bit, but this is a structured wine. 3-5 more years, I think. (2378 views)
Tasted by jmoore431 on 9/12/2018 & rated 91 points: Ditto to Nanda's note. (2260 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 8/4/2018 & rated 91 points: A superb village Vosne that got better and better over the evening. Concentration that punches above its weight with round, plush and just sweet black cherry fruit. Excellent Vosne typicity with spice abound. Velvety throughout. Just entering a fun drinking window. (2384 views)
Tasted by Ms. Bubblehead on 3/17/2018: 2012 Mugneret Gibourg Vosne Romanee
Very fragrant / aromatic, lots of red fruits, cherry blossom, violets on the nose; on palate, raspberry, cranberry, rich yet balance with minerality, gentle acidity, modest spices and silky tannin. The fruit is destemmed, no fining/ filtration.
They made it from different parcels in the village, mostly on the lower slope of the village (Les Chalandins, Le Pre de la Folie/Les Champ Gourdin/La Colombiere - right next to their domaine, and Les Croix Blanches). (2677 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 3/12/2018 & rated 88 points: Slow oxed for 3 hours. There are some nice pure red fruit but a bit light on its feet. It is a bit four squared and simple throughout the evening. (2466 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Vosne-Romanée

Vosne Romanée is one of the smallest wine villages in Burgundy. The wines possess diverse characteristics, but they can generally be considered to have complexity and longevity beyond nearly all other wines in the world. The village has six grand crus: Romanée-Conti, La Romanée, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, and La Grande Rue. While there is monopoly control of four of the six grand crus, the village has at least forty growers sharing its vineyards. The top premier cru includes Les Malconsorts, Cros Parantoux, Les Chaumes, and Clos des Réas.
