Community Tasting Notes (average 89.2 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 108 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by corkscrews on 7/31/2023 & rated 87 points: A nose of muted red fruit, brickish in color. A medium to full bodied with black cherry, some licorice and spice on finish, past it’s prime. www.winelx.com (295 views)
Tasted by shafer1994 on 9/22/2022 & rated 90 points: Still dark color, nose needed some time to open up. Nice notes of dark fruit (cherries), dark chocolate, tobacco. Medium body and medium finish with still noticeable tannins. Goes very well with dinner. (623 views)
Tasted by SMHalps on 5/2/2022 & rated 89 points: Not bad, but a bit past its prime. (976 views)
Tasted by studleytrey on 12/15/2020: Consistent with last year's note. Time to drink up! (1385 views)
Tasted by bablues on 7/5/2020 & rated 92 points: Took a little time to open up, as it was a little thin at first, but once it did, it was superb. Didn't take detailsd notes, but remember this was very elegant and balanced. (1632 views)
Tasted by Lype on 5/19/2020: Rich fruit, raspberry jam, fresh acidity, at this point a tight package, still young and promising. (1391 views)
Tasted by studleytrey on 9/26/2019 & rated 90 points: Interestingly, this bottle is showing a little less tired than the last, in spite of the cork breaking (stained 1/4 way) and the other being two years ago. Don't get me wrong, it's still "drink up" status for sure, but it's still enjoyable enough (can't believe I didn't get to another for two years!). Opaque black color with garnet to tawny at the very edges. Aromas of dark fruits, dark chocolate, walnuts, licorice, clove, and graphite—Bordeaux-like and quite nice actually. Medium body and acid, medium (-) finish, and flavors of dark fruits, dark chocolate, walnut, tobacco, licorice, lemon, and minerals. Not mad at this actually. Had it with a minestrone soup, but a steak, steak sandwich, or sausage and peppers would probably be better. It's a nice standalone sipper post meal as well. (1755 views)
Tasted by Sugarb on 4/4/2019 & rated 89 points: Definitely at the end of its drinking window. One of our other remaining bottles had already gone bad. Whatever you have, put it on your "drink now" list. Fruit had taken a decidedly diminished turn since we last drank, ~6 months ago. (1733 views)
Tasted by H. Eugene on 10/15/2018 & rated 88 points: Drink up. This wine will not get any better. (1677 views)
Tasted by H. Eugene on 9/29/2018 & rated 91 points: Smooth and drinking very well. Great legs, nice bouquet, ruby in color. Medium to long finish (1540 views)
Tasted by H. Eugene on 8/25/2018 & rated 90 points: Excellent, smooth and after pouring through a vinturi, I decanted for 1 hour (1548 views)
Tasted by Sugarb on 7/3/2018 & rated 89 points: Popped and poured, paired with a carbonara-based pasta. Went nicely. Per other posts, fruit has lost some vibrancy, this is on its edge so drink up soon. (1957 views)
Tasted by RDHudak on 5/24/2018 & rated 88 points: Seemingly going down hill. Still quite drinkable, but the fruit is fading. (1701 views)
Tasted by Sugarb on 3/25/2018 & rated 88 points: Was ok but generally lacked character. Need to try another bottle. (1796 views)
Tasted by studleytrey on 12/25/2017 & rated 88 points: This had some similar notes as the '06 that was consumed just prior, but it was overall softer and generally drinking pretty tired by comparison. So yeah, I'd say drink up if you still have any of these; unfortunately I've got 4 more. Very dense coloring with brickish garnet at the very edges. Aromas of dark fruit, licorice, clove, black tea, walnuts, and dark chocolate. Light to medium body, medium acid and finish, and flavors of dark fruits, black tea, dark chocolate, and graphite minerality. (1749 views)
Tasted by SMHalps on 11/22/2017 & rated 88 points: Past or at the very end of its drinking window. Not bad, but it was so much better when it was younger. Some funky notes on the nose, although that blew off. Notes of soy sauce on the palate. (1669 views)
Tasted by H. Eugene on 11/12/2017 & rated 86 points: Time to drink up. This wine is getting to the end of its drinking window. With that being said, I did enjoy it. Very smooth with a wonderful bouquet. Long finish and good legs (1565 views)
Tasted by andtheodor on 3/30/2017: Another head scratcher. I've loved many vintages of this wine but the '05 just doesnt seem to be coming together. Tough and lacking charm. (2439 views)
Tasted by SMHalps on 3/19/2017 & rated 91 points: My previous bottle of this was in 2015. Popped 'N poured in a restaurant with my wine group. Very nice, the sangiovese felt like it dominated, with the wine having a palate cleansing acidity. (2149 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 10/22/2016 & rated 88 points: Solid but not a great value. (2486 views)
Tasted by depechemoroder on 9/19/2016 & rated 91 points: Great purity of fruit, black cherries and plums going into the preserved fruit stage with prune and chocolate emerging. Very nice underlying spice and volcanic-like minerality, finely powdered tannins and rather bright acidity. This has some years left it. Delicious. (2860 views)
Tasted by Quarked on 7/1/2016 & rated 91 points: This had a wonderful nose of musty old books, iodine, and sour cherry, and a palate to match. Glad that I kept a bottle to see it mature. (2847 views)
Tasted by wculpepper on 6/11/2016 & rated 89 points: Cork stained half-way up. Decanted and found minimal sediment: Odd, since my notes of 7/26/2015 indicated a moderate amount. First pour after 90 minutes. Still a deep garnet color, and with no bricking. Plum, plus a slight funk on the nose which should blow off. On the palate, again I find plums and dark cherries. Overall, the wine seems in better balance than last year as the tannins have faded somewhat. I'm upping my rating two points and plan to drink my remaining bottles over the next three years. (2314 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 2/25/2016 & rated 88 points: Very nice after a short decant. Well with or without food. Some disappointment on day two after vacuum sealing. Enjoyable but drink finish on day one! (3043 views)
Tasted by robmatic on 2/22/2016 & rated 88 points: Well, some would say rustic, but this was a fine pairing with a savory ragu over some edamame spaghetti. I'd say very good food wine. (2717 views)

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
