Tasted by Beeka on 7/18/2020 & rated 88 points: Smooth and fruity with a rich ruby plum. (753 views)
Tasted by grapenomad on 4/12/2020 & rated 90 points: Deep ruby in the glass. Aromatic, like all Clarendon bottlings. Big, ripe fruit in the form of plum, raspberry, black cherry and blueberry. Spices in the back, spices in the front, most of them coming from the oak. Developed, but firm tannins, medium acidity. Solid complexity, medium length. Good on its own, but better paired with meats like lamb or pork. Drink in the next year or two. (1267 views)
Tasted by elevwine on 2/1/2020 & rated 91 points: Still going strong on day 2. Much better than last bottle. Strong black cherry and anise flavors, some spice box and a very peppery bite and a bit of acid. Clarendon wines are always powerful and this is no exception. (829 views)
Tasted by elevwine on 11/23/2018 & rated 90 points: Yes, waited too long on this one. Drinking window guidance on CT is correct. Still a good wine with deep raspberry and blackberry flavors with fading structure, weak tannins, some chocolate and a surprising amount of acidity. Overall, though, the hallmarks of a wine well past its prime. Hate when that happens. (1282 views)
Tasted by JHaslam on 7/7/2018 & rated 90 points: Starting to fade, time to drink! (1550 views)
Tasted by weinmatt on 5/23/2018 & rated 92 points: Pomegranate, chambord, leather and spice. Tannic at open but with air more integrated. Very good. Nicely paired with the spicier stuff. Edit: +1 as it has gotten more air. Maybe it is the company or game 7 of the ECF, but this is very good stuff. (1137 views)
Tasted by vincemcd61 on 2/15/2018 & rated 93 points: Wonderful. Strong aroma of dried fruit beautiful taste and great finish. Had with Greek turkey burgers. (1104 views)
Tasted by TGLeroy on 1/18/2017 & rated 90 points: Has some nice tannins left to see it through a few more years, Chambord-like raspberry liquor, leather (suede maybe). Somewhat one dimensional, perhaps better with food. (1725 views)
Tasted by weinmatt on 12/30/2016 & rated 90 points: No detailed notes. Audozed 1 hr and ate with Indian. Nose of baking spice, plum, orange peel, oak. (1413 views)
Tasted by Quaffing in Colorado on 11/13/2016 & rated 92 points: Cloudy, deep crimson with ripping raspberry liqueur and herbal hints. Drying tannins on the back end. There's a slight bit of orange on the rim, but this is singing right now. Served with Marisol green chile, white cheddar and caramelized onion stuffed moose burgers with tomato & onion marmalade---Yup! (1407 views)
Tasted by Dar3 on 8/29/2016 & rated 90 points: Preferred the Kangarilla and Hickenbotham Grenache from this vintage. This had more acidity and tannin. Enjoyable (1570 views)
Tasted by TGLeroy on 8/28/2016 & rated 91 points: Very good QPR from Wtso. Dark and unfiltered cloudy, black cherry on the nose and palette, nice spice and medium length. (928 views)
Tasted by vincemcd61 on 8/28/2016 & rated 92 points: Had with involtini. Very nice wine ran thru the Venturi and poured into a decanter (1480 views)
Tasted by SSGibson on 6/17/2016 & rated 91 points: Medium body, well integrated and interesting, with a nice spice finish. (1165 views)
Tasted by KJD45$ on 3/6/2016 & rated 94 points: Huge raspberry framboise nose and taste...licorice on nose ....
Pepper and chocolate....nice tannins...overall a Fantastic wine! (1553 views)
Tasted by runchey@uwalumni.com on 1/1/2016 & rated 91 points: A little sweeter than other Clarendon, but overall very good. (1412 views)
Tasted by corkscrews on 11/4/2015 & rated 90 points: A nose of dark fruits and spice, dark garnet in color. A medium to full bodied single vineyard red, with blackberry, blueberry, with a spiced finish, easy drinking. www.winelx.com (1570 views)
Tasted by clubs on 10/4/2015 flawed bottle: Nice if you like prune juice. Possibly flawed (1554 views)
Tasted by vincemcd61 on 9/12/2015 & rated 92 points: Had with fig pizza from the Garrison Cafe (1630 views)
Tasted by hr3 on 8/20/2015 & rated 88 points: not my taste. All CH's grenchache taste too sweet and blueberry for me (1759 views)
Tasted by vincemcd61 on 5/28/2015 & rated 92 points: Decanted at lunch time. Very nice wine had with Margherita pizza from Prima's (1492 views)
Tasted by KJD45$ on 5/13/2015: F'ing great wine (1412 views)
Tasted by KJD45$ on 3/31/2015 & rated 93 points: Dark deep cherry...framboise... And licorice on the aroma...
Med body with decent glycerin levels.....tart raspberry palate with sweet cherry and fine grain tannins drying on the tongue a bit...
Good finish and persistence....overall superb!! (1570 views)
Tasted by bklynfoodie on 3/28/2015 & rated 85 points: Takes time to open up. It may have suffered in comparison to the 2011 Gramercy Cellars The Third Man we drank earlier in the evening. I need to reassess it on its own. (1261 views)
Tasted by Mossrose on 1/28/2015 & rated 93 points: This wine was not the over the top, hugely overripe, hotly alcoholic, and candied sweet Grenache I was expecting from Clarendon Hills. Instead, dense and delicious red raspberry fruit filled the nose, mouth, and throat. that was delightfully framed by bright acidity and drying tannins. Much closer to top Grenache made in Spain and France, with superb purity and clarity of flavors, that also works well with food. (58 views)

CLARENDON HILLS

Inspired by the classic South Australian wines of the 1950s and 1960s, particularly Penfolds, the visionary Roman Bratasiuk, a former biochemist, bought the old Elysium winery at Blewitt Springs, near Clarendon in McLaren Vale. By chance he found the nearby 10 acre Astralis Vineyard as a source of "as good as you can get" Shiraz. The vines were first planted in 1920 with 19th century colonial vine-stock derived from Chateau Reynella. Best known for the flagship wine Astralis Syrah, Clarendon Hills also produces a portfolio of single vineyard age-worthy Grenache & Syrah wines derived from 35 to 75-year-old dry grown vines, from the Clarendon, Blewitt Springs and Kangarilla sub-regions of McLaren Vale.
