Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 27 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Ellon on 2/18/2021: Needs decanting as the wine changed drastically after 30m being poured. This tasting note reflects the wine after the 30m.

Medium ruby with some meaty/brown tones. The nose despite the plummy(ness) character one gets due to the vintage (hot year) is still very much capable of delivering ripe rasberries, rock rose, bread ferment, organge zest and a clear note of figues. Intense, showing the vintage but also with some freshness and super layered. Full bodied and somewhat decadent it delivers a meaty palate with no holes full of a red ripe fruit, loads of figues and a multitude of sun dried bushes. It really stays and occupies your palate with a layered silhouette and masses of ripe complexities. Extremely long with buried tannins and a shy acidity.

First vintage of the Roquette & Cazes collaboration and i have to say the best aged Douro 2003 i drank. Ripe and meaty but never overdone nor loosing its sense of identity. This one is holding strong but in a really delicious place right now. (693 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 4/22/2018 & rated 93 points: Wow this is really delicious and on a great aging curve which is not complete. Very full nose of blackberry, brambles. The mid palate is concentrated and delicious with black fruit, minerals and herbs. The finish is medium and developing complex. I can imagine this developing pretty well like an old Spanish Rioja. Stay tuned. (1239 views)
Tasted by SeattlePaul on 12/8/2014 & rated 89 points: Overall not as remarkable as I remember, and this particular bottle didn't seem to hold open as long as I expected after opening. Possibly an off bottle, or else this is just really at the very top of its peak. Either way, I'll be letting the next one breathe less and drinkng these soon. (2723 views)
Tasted by SeattlePaul on 6/30/2013 & rated 92 points: Allowed to breathe 30 minutes. Opening up with complex tobacco and smoke notes with a subtle fruity backbone and respectably long finish. Great overall balance and smooth, integrated finish. Would probably pair quite well with something savory and complex like a nice fatty charcuterie platter. (3568 views)
Tasted by Pedro G on 12/27/2011 & rated 88 points: Um vinho interessante com bastante personalidade. (4521 views)
Tasted by Tigg on 4/23/2011 & rated 89 points: Took about 45min to open up. Complex, moderate finish. Some rough edge. (4538 views)
Tasted by Tcas1982 on 2/19/2011 & rated 90 points: Very smooth, drinkable now (4123 views)
Tasted by J2K on 1/24/2011: Tasted blind. Really enjoyed this wine. Beautiful aroma's. sweet fruit on the palate but good balance and structure, also had some spice and cinnamon on the finish which was lingering. An excellent wine. (2639 views)
Tasted by bonjovibon on 4/4/2010 & rated 94 points: Delicious and elegant as a described in my previous note. Wonderful with roasted lamb. (2388 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 1/10/2010 & rated 91 points: WIMLXX

Tasted January 10, 2010.

Opened and served immediately. Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of briar patch, tar, currants and plums. Flavors of berries, currants, cherries and a bit of plum. Medium acidity, tannins and body. Drink now. (2084 views)
Tasted by bonjovibon on 12/25/2009 & rated 94 points: Wow. What a wine. Magnificent Touriga varietal. Round, very well made and perfect structure. Elegant. I think we've caught it at its perfect momment. Violet and mineral notes on the nose. On the palate, really nice mouthfeel. Silky is the word that can define it. It's like dancing a waltz with a beautiful lady and you don't want the music stops. Wonderful. (2178 views)
Tasted by mmurry on 10/18/2009 & rated 91 points: Portugal Tasting (Farpointe Cellar): The nose had lots of mocha and tar, black currant, and spice. The palate was soft and smooth, with lots of cream. chocolate, and black fruit. (2654 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 10/18/2009 & rated 92 points: A mix of Portoguese wines (Farpointe Cellars, Southlake, TX): WIML92

Tasted by Russ on 4/25/2008 & rated 92 points: Wonderful wine. This fills your mouth with a bouquet of fruit and oak. Extremely smooth finish for such a young wine. This is a keeper. (2369 views)
Tasted by Vinho on 2/25/2008 & rated 93 points: NM. E. (3021 views)
Tasted by swyang on 10/21/2007 & rated 94 points: Magnificent wine. The Touriga varietal sure makes a special wine. Very round, extremely well worked out wine. At same time huge and elegant. On the nose it is very special, with very generous amount of dark berries, honey wax, asian soy, and very floral as well. On the palate, still a bit young as the above elements have not quite put together yet, and the new oak is still very present, but you sure can bet that it will within 2-3 years. A stunner indeed!  Tasted by losvinhos on 7/2/2007 & rated 94 points: Jantar harmonizado - Vinhos do Crasto. Excepcional (3757 views)
Excepcional. (3720 views)
Tasted by mmurry on 2/10/2007 & rated 89 points: I loved the nose on this one. It had loads of barnyard, plus some raspberry and vanilla. The palate had lots of raspberry fruit and oak, along with barnyard and spice. The tannins were solid and the finish was long. The only downside to this wine is that is was a little hot. (3033 views)
Tasted by win on 10/26/2006 & rated 91 points: Chateau Lynch-Bages Wine Dinner with Monsieur Jean-Charles Cazes (The Petroleum Club, Sky Lobby, Dallas, Texas): Pronounced "shees-toe," this wine is named for the Portuguese word for "schist," a reference to the nature of the soil in the steep, terraced vineyards that rise majestically above the banks of the Douro River. Produced by Jean-Michael Cazes and Jorge Roquette, owner of the Quinto do Crasto estate. Touriga Nacional - 60%; Tinta Roriz - 25%; Touriga Francesa - 15%. Spends 18 months in 225-liter French oak barrels comprising 60% new oak and 40% used. 30,000 bottles anually. Very interesting wine--one of my favorites of the night. Hinit of earthy aromas with spice in the background subtly intermixed with layers of raspberries; red currant and blueberries. Nice finish. (4191 views)
Tasted by Vinho on 5/22/2006 & rated 93 points: Esse vinho é o primeiro da parceria entre a família Roquette (Quinta do Crasto) e a família Cazes (Château Lynch-Bages). (A+) Excepcional. (3781 views)
