This has been my in my cellar for 2 years, and is drinking very well now. This is spot on SB character- crisp, dry, citrus, mango, nice long finish. My price was $15 making this a superb value. (907 views) | | Tasted by Cuellar's Cellar on 7/12/2019 & rated 90 points: super approachable . Very good (1703 views) | | Tasted by SD_Ted on 6/30/2019: Fantastic! Crisp, but not tart. Full flavor (1531 views) | | Tasted by trippingturtles on 4/24/2019 & rated 89 points: Lemony nose and zippy, tart finish. Straight forward and enjoyable (1788 views) | | Tasted by Phil Loxera on 3/6/2019 & rated 87 points: Crisp melon and bitter lemon. Refreshing, although not as exciting or complex as similarly priced offerings from NZ (e.g Dog Point.) (1970 views) | | Tasted by sean7711 on 3/1/2019 & rated 89 points: Napa; 3/1/2019-3/2/2019 (Napa Valley, CA): Tasting at Groth
Personally, I like it, although for $17-20 (depending on your location) I'm sure you're better off with other Napa SBs of similar quality or NZ. Did not pick up any bottles but always one that we keep around. (1638 views) | | Tasted by jonahfactor on 1/7/2019: This used to be a distinctive SB that had earned shelf space in our cellar for years. This rendition shows why it has fallen out of favor for us. Very lean, offering only some taut citrus and melon. Flecks of citrus zest that help it accompany food, tonight Caprese salad and shrimp cocktail. Tight bouquet and stingy finish. Pass. (882 views) | | Tasted by Halfeel on 12/9/2018 & rated 87 points: Not as good as I recall Groth Sauvignon Blancs to usually be. Need to re-evaluate after the next bottle. Otherwise, better choices in Napa Valley SBs for the price. (872 views) | | Tasted by sean7711 on 10/8/2018 & rated 89 points: Napa Harvest Weekend; 10/5/2018-10/8/2018 (Napa Valley, CA): Tasting at Groth. 2nd of 5
Same as April. Good SB from napa for the price, but nothing that will wow you. (1622 views) | | Tasted by sean7711 on 4/21/2018 & rated 89 points: Napa Weekend; 4/20/2018-4/23/2018 (Napa): No formal notes taken. Nice bottle, favorable Napa price for the quality. Imagine this will taste great on a slightly cooler summer night. Picked up 2 bottles for that reason. Dennis and Judy Groth purchased the 121 acre Oakcross Vineyard in the Oakville appellation in 1981. The vineyard was originally owned by Justin Meyer and Ray Duncan who planted the estate with some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon vines and which they included in their wines from the 1970s vintages. In 1985, after the Groths moved permanently to the Napa Valley, Groth Winery was founded and began producing what have become some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignons coming from the Napa Valley. Groth's 1985 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon received the distinction of a 100 point rating from Robert Parker which launched the label into the list of top wineries in Napa. Dennis Groth has served as President of the Napa Valley Vintners Association and Chairman of the Wine Institute and continues to produce award-winning, highly rated Cabernets.Sauvignon Blanc Varietal CharacterUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
