Tasted by JonnyG on 4/25/2019 & rated 90 points: A Diverse Night of Italian Wines (Leonardo's, Solvang, CA): Floral, enticing nose, but the taste didn't live up to those aromatics for me. Good typicity, with dense almond and honey notes along with some yeasty, textured elements. Came off as a bit simple and restrained. (1469 views)
Tasted by rmalloy on 1/28/2019 & rated 90 points: Very good. Notes of apples, minerals, bitter almonds, and quite a lot of yeastiness. But this doesn't burst with the sweet fruit flavors that some might like. (1470 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 8/30/2018 & rated 92 points: Excellent lovely aromatic nose, precise, good cut, minerality, stone fruits, really nice. Love it. Have prosciutto, will travel. 92+ (1398 views)
Tasted by karl.1480 on 10/31/2017 & rated 89 points: Clear, medium intensity, lemon color.

Youthful nose with medium(+) intensity of aromas. Ripe lemons, white peach, yellow plum, baked apple, honey comb and lots of creamy sur lie-notes.

Big and fleshy on the palate with medium acidity and medium body. Rich and creamy mouthfeel with great concentration due to very old vines. Long lingering finish with a nice acidity that cuts trough the rich texture.

I've tasted a few wines from this producer and I've always enjoyed them quite a lot. If I've got things straight they work a lot with really old vines, long sur-lie aging and no oak. Impressive stuff that shows that Friuli has more than orange wines to bring to the table. (1441 views)

In the early 90's Ferdinando Zanusso acquired two ancient vineyards - twelve hectares of very old vines on steep, terraced hills in two of Friuli's best sites: eight in the Corno di Rosazzo, in the 'Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC district, and four in the Brazzano di Cormons, in the Collio district. Although the vines were in pathetic conditions, he saw that they could be saved. Ferdinando's aim was to make as 'transparent' a wine as possible, in which soil, climate and tradition show through the wine without interferences, intervention or 'imporovements', giving, in short, the purest expression of 'terroir'. This is achieved through organic cultivation in the vineyard, with naturally low yields (seldom reaching 20 hectolitres a hectare), and spontaneous, non-interventionalist winemaking to ensure absolute integrity. The first wine produced was in 1996. The wines are fermented using the vineyard's own yeast cultures, undergo a subsequent malolactic fermentation and are matured in stainless steel tanks for two years, with no racking or filtration. For such 'simple' wines these are in fact very intellectual

Friulano

Friulano (formerly Tocai Friulano, and also known as Sauvignonasse) is a grape variety most famous for its role in the white wines of Friuli, northeastern Italy.
These wines, usually varietal, are lively and fruit-driven with notes of citrus and almond, and often a touch of minerality. The grape is thought to be native to
South West France, where it is known as Sauvignonasse or Sauvignon Vert. However, it has moved on from its home and into northeastern Italy, where it has
quickly become one of the region's most classic styles. Mentions of wines called "Tocai" date back hundreds of years here, but as always, it is not clear exactly
what grape variety this refers to. Many local winemakers believe it to be Tocai Friulano.
