| Community Tasting Notes (average 89.7 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 9 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by vanderpee on 9/1/2021 & rated 90 points: Ripe and showing secondary tones, I like the style. No need to wait any longer, on day 2 the wine had lost most of its attractiveness (but could have been due to temperature too). I can echo on other comments for this wines' forest/wood type of nose while no wood was used. Very nice. (467 views) | | Tasted by Marius Cavasdan on 3/16/2020 & rated 91 points: mostly grenache old vines and mourvedre "only" 60 years old. Aged for 2 winters in concrete. Dark red in color. Expressive nose. Black fruits, blackberries. Spice. Palate with grainy tannins. Same black fruits. Medium+ length. Provencal herbs on the aftertaste. Very nice wine (672 views) | | Tasted by chatters on 6/24/2019: Vinosphere (Town Hall, Sydney): Baked, garrigue, red berry, slightly spiced, gamey. Tight tannins, red berry fruit, balanced though. Nice. (1064 views) | | Tasted by chefdilletante on 2/8/2019: Tannins fine grained, elegant mouthfeel. Assertive liquorice and menthol on finish. Overall good show. (816 views) | | Tasted by henrygjeffreys on 3/15/2017: floral and fresh on the nose Vibrant and fresh on the palate, some ripe tannin and then full fruit with some garrique notes Good stuff (1251 views) |
| Montirius Producer website
"Montirius has been a family estate for 5 generations. The slow conversion process from traditional to bio-dynamic vineyard management and wine making of the 133 acres owned by the family was started by Eric Saurel’s father Max in 1980. The estate was fully converted in 1996 and in 1999 Montirius became the first winery in the Vacqueyras & Gigondas appellations to be certified Bio-Dynamic. The estate is certified organic by Ecocert and Bio-Dynamic by Biodyvin."
Red Rhone Blend Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.
A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
