Some apple and citrus on the nose. This medium bodied wine showed lots of very juicy acidity, but nowhere near enough fruit -- apple, lemon and lime -- to balance. A touch of minerality, and a slight bitterness on the finish. Should hold for a year or two. (831 views) | | Tasted by tak4 on 3/13/2019 & rated 85 points: TASTING THE COOKING WINE! Because in this house, we taste all the wine.
Unscrewed and poured.
Wine is a light straw color. Definitely not what I would have expected from a mass market Chardonnay.
On nose, get powdered candy, melon, and generalized citrus notes. Not particularly complex but nothing "off" for sure.
On palate, wine is sound. Refreshing acidity, roundness on the mid-palate (malolactic?) and a surprisingly long, soft finish. Don't get much flavor evolution here.
This is far better than a $13 bottle of wine has any right to be. Talk about punching above your weight. My ratings are absolute, not price adjusted, so it's got a low-ish score. But boy do I like this wine! I'd drink this at a ball game all day long. (1121 views) |
| Joel Gott Producer websiteChardonnay The Chardonnay GrapeUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson CaliforniaNapa Valley.http://www.stagecoachvineyard.com/vineyards/our_vineyards.php Santa Ynez.http://www.everyvine.com/org/Camp_Four/vineyard/Camp_Four/ |
