Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.3 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 8 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ThijsV on 5/15/2024 & rated 92 points: [Restaurant purchase] At Le Cerisier, Tournon. Deep golden in color. Medium+ intensity on the nose with beewax, raisins, ripe apricot and dried apricot, minerality, honey, fudge. Medium+ acidity (feels slufter higher due to the bitter notes), long finish with a typical almond bitter note

It looked like it was just over the hill, but it kept improving in the glass. Revised the scoring during the evening from 91 to 92

[Edit] On day 2 it was even better with white chocolate and flintiness. The linoleum aroma had completely disappeared

On day 3 white chocolate and Werther’s Original in the finish (70 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 3/25/2024 flawed bottle: Premox (89 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 3/11/2023 & rated 94 points: Popped and poured. This is terrific. Apricot, tropical fruit, minerals and a little motor oil. Full bodied but enough acidity to retain good freshness. Really interesting and enjoyable now. This is going to evolve into something very special. (278 views)
Tasted by Birks cellar on 2/4/2023 & rated 90 points: Not open yet. Potential for at least 94+ point (296 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 12/28/2021: Similar to DRDAN8’s observations very dark in colour, oxidative both in appearance and on the nose/palate. Not unpleasant, notes of ripe/dried fruit, beeswax, nuts. On the palate a little one-dimensional and bitter, not much in terms of depth nor length. 88-90? (985 views)
Tasted by drdan8 on 11/27/2017 & rated 92 points: Equal parts Rousanne / Marsanne. Pours a deep golden color to the stem but in no way oxidized. Very interesting nose of burnt toast, vanilla bean shavings, sweat, cashew nut, and guava. Distinctive palate of pineapple, yellow fruit pith, and some hard to identify flavors. Moderate richness with a mild telltale white Hermitage bitterness.
A refreshing change from many of the generic whites on the market. Some very distinctive elements to this wine. I expect further complexity with 5 years. (1276 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 3/3/2014 & rated 94 points: En primeur tasting. Marsanne and Roussanne in equal parts. Energetic, dense, rich, round, fresh and very long. A lot of tension and spice. Lovely! 93-95 (2221 views)

Northern Rhône

Guide to the wines and appellations of the Northern Rhone Valley -

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)

Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.

### 2017 vintage ###

Hermitage

Guide to Hermitage wine Guide to Cote Rotie - Read about the Northern Rhone Valley

• The appellation stretches over 3 communes in the Drôme "département" : Tain-l'Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Larnage.

• The soils are a combination of granite with alluvial quaternary delta deposits, and, on the eastern side, Pliocene clay. This diversity explains the numerous different names given to vineyard plots within the appellation : Bessards, Greffieux, Méal, Roucoule, Beaumes, etc.

• The meso-climate provides shelter from the north winds, where the majority of the slopes is well exposed, facing south.

•The vineyards area adds up to 134 hectares/331 acres, with an annual production of 3,635 hectoliters. Authorized maximum yield is 40 hectoliters/hectare (2.3 US tons/acres).

• Grape varieties : Syrah (an addition of up to 15% of Marsanne or Roussanne is allowed).
