Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.4 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 38 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by chbeaumont on 5/19/2024 & rated 90 points: Daffodil yellow; initially dramatically strange after a couple of minutes provided an intriguing enticement; a tropical note underpinned by a lovely purity which persists on the fin. Probably will age well but no need. (94 views)
Tasted by FlickWines on 8/3/2023: A delightful surprise! Got this in the wine club a few years ago knowing nothing about it. I understand why this is the producer's winner!
Medium straw color, medium-bodied dry white with a Nose of white peach, pear, orange, elderflower, and a little grass. The palate continues with additional ripe pink grapefruit, and a lingering salty minerality and zesty tanginess on the medium finish. (763 views)
Tasted by LetItRide on 5/7/2023 & rated 91 points: I consider this my go to house white from the first promising days of Spring until Autumn’s chill.
Delicious with bracing acidity, peach and the perfect saline minerality that invites another sip. This vintage is evolving and will hold nicely for the next few years. (944 views)
Tasted by Hilzi on 4/22/2023 & rated 93 points: Absolute pleasure to drink. Pear, apricot, a bit of honey and very nice, fresh acidity. A bit leaner and more acidic than in previous years. Absolutely like this wine. Superb value for money.
Lugana’s has been a favourite of mine, when everyone falsely saw this as a Trebbiano. I hope that prices stay down while it’s becoming more en vogue.
Good to got for a few years I think. (967 views)
Tasted by CoramCritter on 6/26/2022 & rated 91 points: Appricot, lemon, green apple, flower petal nose. The nose is just gorgeous. Crisp, acidic, lemon finish with a silky medium length. Just wonderful. (1920 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 4/6/2022: Really pretty smelling again with some salty minerality to it. On the nose. Darn good on the palate as well. That's tasting super great. Delicious. (2237 views)
Tasted by Michael Hung on 2/14/2022 & rated 90 points: Nose has notes of elderflower, citrus, and stone fruit. Pale amber color with a watery meniscus, light bodied, medium plus acidity, medium alcohol, and off-dry characteristics. Relatively long finish to other white wines. Tasting notes of passion fruit, lemon peel, and lychee with secondary notes of stone fruit and honey. Tertiary flavor of oak. Great out of the bottle, opens into a slightly astringent aftertaste. Paired wonderfully with carbonara, overall a very pleasant and bright wine. 90pt (1964 views)
Tasted by wayfarer on 1/29/2022 & rated 90 points: Drank over several nights. This bottle is richer than prior ones, a bit of aged citrus showing, a bit more mineral depth, so all in all more dimensional and still carrying good freshness and hints of floral. (1729 views)
Tasted by wayfarer on 11/5/2021: Drank over several nights. Third bottle of six pack and definitely growing on me. Interesting by third night a bit of light apple/sweet fruit crept in with some roundness as acidity/citrus relaxed. (2090 views)
Tasted by Ardross on 10/9/2021 & rated 90 points: Impressive , bright and lemony white - very punchy for a Lugana with a long finish - excellent . (1772 views)
Tasted by Laz4wine on 9/29/2021 & rated 92 points: I just love this sweet child-o-mine, ahh ah ah ahhh sweet love of mine...just skinny the bottle out so I can store more next time lol! (1641 views)
Tasted by swissmountainman on 9/26/2021 & rated 90 points: Deep ykow color. The taste is fruity and light. (1442 views)
Tasted by wayfarer on 7/2/2021 & rated 89 points: Second bottle, and this one seemed more expressive in ways others have noted, in a positive uptick. Had overlapping with Collestefano Matelica, and that was interesting comp, as Collestefano is an annual case purchase. I'd say this has more diverse fruit, a bit richer profile, not quite the zing. (1775 views)
Tasted by guillermo- on 6/28/2021 & rated 90 points: I think PSPATRICK said it well. (1630 views)
Tasted by EXPLORER 825 on 6/16/2021 & rated 95 points: This Frati is simply outstanding. Aromas of pear, citrus and nectarines on the nose…followed by same flavors on the palate. Delightful medium texture. What a lovely white wine..95+ points. (1483 views)
Tasted by ftorrisi on 6/13/2021 & rated 92 points: I discovered Lugana many years ago during a trip to Italy. Only recently it started being available abroad. This Lugana is fantastic, the minerality leads the palate and opens to white flowers and exotic fruits, pears. Acidity well integrated and supporting notes of sweet spices and apple tart. Wow! (1503 views)
Tasted by wayfarer on 5/21/2021: Concur with recent notes on essential profile of nose and palate. That said, I found this wine to be a bit of a mystery in end, it always seemed on the cusp of definition and then lapsed into the realm of pleasant and enjoyable but not a lot more. Certainly the core acidity and fruit are there so it was not 'nondescript'. As first of six--I do enjoy Italian whites, and verdicchio specifically--I look forward to another bottle down the road. Before and during dinner of grilled swordfish with lemon/oregano drizzle. (1656 views)
Tasted by PSPatrick on 4/19/2021 & rated 90 points: Pale yellow golden colour. Lovely floral, citrus, peach and pear notes are joined by lactic notes and saline minerality, with good acidity and very good length. Medium-bodied, clean, and fresh. Balanced and harmonious. Reliable as always! Very good value. (1828 views)
Tasted by chbeaumont on 4/13/2021 & rated 91 points: Daffodil yellow; floral aromatics, an exotic drive, penetrating; marked acidity, showy, touch tropical, needs a little more time to fully knit, pear skin in the background; well weighted, lots to the finish. Better in 12 months. (1641 views)
Tasted by Laz4wine on 3/28/2021 & rated 91 points: WE91 note nails this wine, delicious as an aperitif, with sharp cheese, and with sushi. Floral-peachy nose, then really enjoyed the pear, white peach, apricot and tropical-citrus profile, easy-going personality and just delicious clean acidity. 90 - 92+ (1600 views)
Tasted by Omar Khayyam on 3/13/2021 & rated 88 points: Early days for this one. very aromatic on the nose with verbena soap, mandarins, fresh lime peel. On the palate sweet mandarin fruit attack followed by a little bitter grapefruit kernel and peel finish. Perfect texture! good freshness. Not all together yet. Save for 3-5 years and drink with food, perhaps grilled swordfish or tuna with some fresh salsa. Like many of these verdicchios the qtr is great compared to many other famous white wines of the world. 88 now but potential for 90 points later on for sure. (1766 views)
Tasted by Sebastian80 on 1/31/2021 & rated 91 points: Gooseberry, star fruit, minerals, apples and a saline touch. Fresh, delicious with a nice concentration. Definitely worth buying again. Nothing to keep in the cellar. (1559 views)
Tasted by Butzemann on 8/16/2020 & rated 87 points: Pale yellow colour, smells of pear and in the background of melon, medium body, has a little bit of residual sugar, so off-dry, in the mouth pear and melon, in the aftertaste pear, melon and a little bit of acidity, good length (15 sec), nice white wine. (1849 views)
Tasted by Paul852 on 6/6/2020 & rated 88 points: This is a nice wine when well chilled as an aperitif. Fruit and minerality on the nose. The palate is crisp, medium+ acidity, citrus, hints of white flowers and salinity. The finish is fresh.

But for me it does need to be kept cool - as it warms the acidity becomes a bit much.

OK QPR at just under US$15. (1793 views)

Lugana

Lugana is a DOC near Lake Garda (near Verona in Northern Italy) and is largely made using a local strain of the Trebbiano grape variety known as Turbiana; it is lower yielding.

The DOC sits on the Lombardy-Veneto regional border but is mostly in the former.
