I believe its at its peak

Tasted by Backdoctor on 7/24/2022 & rated 90 points: Not much fruit on the palate. Very old world type cab. Tannins softened up. Decent wine (834 views)
Tasted by inserrm on 1/28/2022: I agree with the notes. Drinking nicely though I wouldn’t say extraordinary . More berries than I recall in other ghost horse vintages. Definitely needs to be decantered flavors softened and filled out more nicely after about 90 minute. (966 views)
Tasted by dhammer53 on 7/18/2021 & rated 92 points: Drank my other bottle 4 years ago. This still has several years to go, but drinking well now. This bottle was signed by Todd Anderson. Some cherry and tannins. This opened up after 90 minutes. I agree with the below last noted. BBQ wine with travel friends. I still think it was ove priced at $100. Not complaining. In 2021, there's much better value out there at $75. (1178 views)
Tasted by Mtnmd1 on 1/23/2021 & rated 92 points: Decanted an hour. Rich sweet cherry notes upfront and on moderate long finish. Still with time ahead of it. (1271 views)
Tasted by slywka7 on 5/23/2020 & rated 92 points: Decanted for 1 hour. Aromas of current, blackberry, dried cherry, touch or heat and eucalyptus. Flavors of blackberry, currant, touch of plum and cherry. Ends with a big finish of 30+ seconds with cherry and blackberry notes. Much better than the last bottle but still assume this was better in it's youth. Has some nice fruit but it's a bit disjointed, which knocks the score done a bit. Will update the note if this changes as I'm drinking it. (1444 views)
Tasted by slywka7 on 11/23/2019 flawed bottle: Decanted for 45 minutes. Aromas of currant, black cherry, blackberry and lead pencil. Flavors of prune, sour raisin and wet leaves. Not sure if it's cooked or VA. The nose though was quite nice and not a trace of anything wrong on that. Peculiar wine. (1559 views)
Tasted by ericindc on 3/9/2019 & rated 86 points: Cabernet Sauvignon Dinner in DC (Eric and Janet's House in DC): This was interesting....in a good and bad way. One first smelling and tasting this wine, your were floored by the robust, in-your-face wall of black current, plum and vanilla. Big fruity, brash with low tannins and very low perceived acidity. However, after a while, this became a chore to drink, just too big and chunky. Just not my style of wine and will overwhelm almost any food. I recognize that this a particular crafted "style", but it just was too much for even the modern extracted wines. (1964 views)
Tasted by dhammer53 on 6/11/2017 & rated 92 points: Drank this at the 10th anniversary Flyertalk wine dinner. Anna brought this sentimental favorite. Smooth wine. Never disappoints. The '07 Ghost Horse beat the '07 Reserve Cab by a nose, but, I don't think the GH is worth the upcharge. I still own a bottle, and will hold off drinking till 2020 minimum. Drink or hold 92+ By the way, at $100, you can buy smarter at this price point or less ie Mike Smith Cabs and EMH Black Cat cabs. (3168 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 1/18/2015 & rated 93 points: Cabs at Cooking School (Maybach, Ghost Horse +++) (Loretta Paganini School fo Cooking): Purple in color. The nose has cassis and tarragon. I was expecting this to be bigger and riper than it was. That is not a criticism as this was outstanding. Nice cassis fruit on the nose with a bit of dust. Juicy texture. Long finish. This drinks very much like a classic Napa Cab. (5676 views)
Tasted by drbdorfman on 11/15/2014 & rated 91 points: Very impressive, very exclusive can't wait for follow up years
(4987 views)
Tasted by JackieTreehorn on 6/8/2014 & rated 94 points: This is really great. Lots of bright, fresh red and black fruit on the palate. Medium weight for CA Cab, good acidity and structure. Still a little tight, but still a joy to drink. Decant for a little if drinking now. Drank with an 09 Pride and preferred this. (5412 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 8/17/2013 & rated 93 points: Greg brought this out to Kan Zaman with Johnny, Dana and myself.
Ghost Horse's "affordable" bottling at a mere c-note...compared to the thousands the other four request.
Elegant. Gorgeous royal dark ruby red color.
The aromas were extremely cult Cali Cab-esque. Dark cassis, leather, fresh dirt road and some light menthol touches.
The palate is balanced and shows more leather driven dark cherries, a little pencil shavings and a long finish that is medium full bodied, shows nice tannins that are integrating well and great acid.
Killer wine. Hard to stand up to the SQN tasted side by side. (6932 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 7/20/2013: Nose - sweet maple covered blueberries wow

Tasted by markjahnke on 3/9/2012 & rated 91 points: This wine is starting to come around from when I first had it a year ago. Formal notes to come. (6850 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 11/4/2011: Id had the wine a few times before and been somehwat disappointed. This bottle had been sitting open for a day though Im unsure if Todd had hit it with argon or not, as he did with most everything else. Restrained nose with a little caramel, cinnamon and chocolate. The palate is full of bright, acidic fruit. Made me wish for a little more ripeness. Soft tannins. Might work well with food. (6949 views)
Tasted by markellen.foodies@gmail.com on 10/8/2011 & rated 88 points: - Crimsom color with fast forming legs and aromas of black currant and violet. It's balanced and has flavours of black currant with a medium/full body. Fleshy texture with a medium finish - Overpriced unexceptional CS. Disappointing! (6287 views)
Tasted by kietkopelli on 6/2/2011 & rated 93 points: I am scoring this wine 2 points higher than the tasting notes because of the hype around it and Todd Anderson's reputation as a winemaker but frankly there are dozens of Cali cabs in the $100 range that shows better than this wine. This review is a composite of 3 tastings from the same bottle: first is pop-and-pour, second is poured through a Vinturi, and third is decanted for 6 hours. The pop-and-pour is virtually not worth drinking, Vinturi is much better, but after 4 hours in the decanter it showed extremely well and after 6 hours it started to fade. The fruit is super bright coming out of the bottle but on the serious sniff gamy meat and cedar dominates. In the mouth tannins dominate sour cherries, raspberries and pomegranate. Lots of cedar and tobacco on the back end. Spices are virtually nonexistent on this wine. Finishes moderately long but this wine is still young.

It's nice to have few of bottles for the trophy case but for my money I think Caymus Special Selection, Arietta H Block, and Joseph Phelps Insignia beats this wine by a wide margin. I'll sit on the rest of the case for 3-4 years before tasting it again. Hopefully it will live up to the hype.

Remember you don't drink the label. (5876 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
